Heart Accordion - Floral Advice

I seem to have forgotten to upload this structure...

size: 2.5"sq closed
size: 13"w x 5"h x .25" thk

I folded a piece of 5"h x 13"w Genoa Bond Calligraphy paper accordion style. Cut into it for the heart shapes, as well as cutting to create the square shapes. Colored the petals in the hearts with Prisma colored pencils.

Text written on separate pieces of paper (speckled gray toned stationary paper) and adhered to the structure (it hid the fold lines). Added the title to the cover

Words: If you're going thru hell keep going... but stop and smell the flowers.

A of F - Accordion - Cut Out - Spring Has Sprung

size closed: 2.5"w x 5.5"h
size open: 12"w x 5,5"h
Our AofF for April is anything to do with Spring... That seemed like too open a theme. I have a tendency to like parameters... but I knew I wanted large letters to doodle in... and within very little time this was finished without really thinking... originally I thought I would color the florals but decided to leave it alone.

I used basic Canson Mixed Media 12 x 12 white 98# paper, pencil marked my 1.75" sections for my letters, scored and folded then drew my 1/2" border around the whole thing... Drew my letters, outlined with the bullet end of a ZIG Writer and cut around the negative areas. Drew the floral designs with the fine tip of my ZIG writer and painted the backgrounds with Holbien Peacock Blue.
Wrote in the rest of the text with the fine tip of the ZIG Writer in monoline.

words:  Spring has sprung, the grass has riz, I wonder where the daisies is.

Accordion Glued Spine - Cowboy Proverbs

My Guild (BVCG) gave us a challenge of Cowboy Sayings... I created a couple larger pieces and submitted them... but then I was thinking that there were so many more I wanted to play with... so created a booklet of them.

I was looking for something else and found these papers in the back of the drawer and decided to use them for this booklet. It has a lovely texture. The paper is called Ruche paper because of the crinkly effect in it. It has a weight feel of about 100# although I have no idea what it is advertised as. I have it in several colors and decided to use the beige and deep brown (cowboy colors). Text is written in a western type font called "Cowboy-Movie font. A little time consuming but I like the effect.

The booklet has 16 dark brown pages plus the beige cover which is an accordion fold glued spine with folded over covers for additional strength.

Accordion - Removable Spine - Green - The Garden We Grew

Since the 1st one I created was for a client and I really loved this structure and poem... I had to make one for myself.

Created the text on I believe copy paper that I had pre-cut eons ago... so thought I'd use more of it.
Wrote out the text using a Zebra pointed nib and two colors of green gouache (Holbien Terre Verte & Cypress Green) in "Bullet Rider Typeface" style and trimmed down to 5"w x 4"h.
Cut several strips of this pale green colored Mi-Tientes paper to create the accordion giving me a border of 1/4" all around the text piece.
Created the covers using some of my gelli print paper (front and back of gelli print) around some white cardstock, then slipped the ends of the accordion into the cover and held everything closed with the spine insert (the whole thing is removable if desired)

Accordion - Removable Spine - The Garden We Grew

I found this structure done by Kit Davey (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mofba1elvwU&t=427s)
Created the text on I believe copy paper that I had pre-cut eons ago... so thought I'd use it.
Wrote out the text using a Zebra pointed nib and Sumi ink in "Bullet Rider Typeface" style and trimmed down to 5"w x 4"h.
Cut several strips of this orangey colored Mi-Tientes paper to created the accordion giving me a border of 1/4" all around the text piece.
Created the covers using some of my gelli print paper (front and back of gelli print) around some white cardstock, then slipped the ends of the accordion into the cover and held everything closed with the spine insert (the whole thing is removable if desired).

Title on cover put into a Spellbinders "Fancy Tags Two" die. Sponged over with some Distress "Marmalade".

Art Of The Fold - Nested Accordion - Wisdom

Our leader sent out instructions from "A Binding Passion" for our next challenge (Sept 2024). As usual I didn't follow the instructions. I made something in basic paper to see how it would work and then just altered it...
size: 4"h x 3.75"w
(opens to 14.5"w)
My grey paper was cut to 14.5"w x 4"h from Canson Colorline cardstock. The yellow was Recollection 65# cardstock. The covers are 2 pieces of white cardstock adhered together and then covered with one of my geli prints done on Columbia Mills End paper. Text and design element with a Juice Up pen and colored with Posca colored pencils.

After experimenting a bit, what I realized was the thinner the folded spines were the better the yellow paper rested in it.

I made a wrap closure and added an amber oval gem.

words: WISDOM - knowledge gained by experience.

Coffee Tea Or - Accordion Booklet

I am cleaning out my spill over room... and came across some funky tea cup calendar pages from 2010... and had to play with them...

Size: 5.5"w x 4."h x 1/4" thk. Opens to 44"

I used a beige heavy weight Elephant Hide paper  which creases and folds fabulously. Artwork done on Canson Mixed Media paper using a Juice Up pen for outlining and Peerless watercolors.
The cover is part of the 44" folded over. The title colored with Gelly Roll Metallic pens in every color...
The closure is a 1/2" strip of the same paper adhered to the front only and a small loop to hold it closed.

Interlocking Accordion - Dreams

The challenge for our next Art Of The Fold Group had us making Interlocking Accordions... I finally made one...
size: 2"w x 6"h
I decided to use beige Elephant Hide paper for the main structure and one of my gelli prints for the interlocking page.

Used a Kuretaki black 3.0 calligraphy pen for the cover and a 3.0 Parallel pen with D'Atramentis Pearlescent ink "Magenta Red - Gold" for the inside text. It bled a touch on the 1st letter...and you can't see the gold sheen on the letters... c'est la vie...

Words: Make your dreams reality.

Double Accordion Booklet - Socrates

I came across this structure while looking for something else... I was intrigued...

YouTube by Camille Riner (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=68SencvnFIo)

I used Columbia Mills LBS End Paper for both accordions, one of them with a geli print, the other I wrote a quote using a 2.0 calligraphy marker pen.

Covers made from a very heavy weight white cardstock - I think 165# covered with the same geli print and tied with narrow/narrow ribbon.

Words: Education is the kindling of a flame, not the filling of a vessel. Socrates

Interlocking Double Accordion - Black Or Cream

Our next challenge for our Art Of The Fold Group was to create this interlocking accordion booklet. I made mine a little bigger.

I used the light weight Elephant Hide Paper in black and cream for the accordions.(24" of each color). I re-purposed the little triangle cut outs from the cream paper as a decorative element on the black paper.

The funky lettering for the title and coffee names is from Tadelus Wastowicz Type Design. The different languages for coffee names is done in monoline. Both using pointed pen and Bleed Proof white ink. The quotes are a basic monoline with a Juice Up pen

BVCG April Lettering Challenge - Day 1 & 2

http://yogiemp.com/Calligraphy/Artwork/BVCG_LetteringChallenge_Apr2020/BVCG_LetteringChallengeApr2020_Week1.html

http://yogiemp.com/Calligraphy/Artwork/BVCG_LetteringChallenge_Apr2020/BVCG_LetteringChallengeApr2020_Week1.htmlI decided to do a slightly different format for this month's challenges - a weekly accordion style with each word done in the same style for that week. I'll then somehow bind the 4+ weeks...

Several of our Guild members did accordion lettered artwork using oversized letters falling of the page with various doodled areas. I really like the look. So just decided to fill the page with large letters, interlocking them etc. Not that legible - but that didn't bother me this time... I decided to write the actual word in small letters just so you could read y word - BIG GRIN.

I'm using various watercolors.
