MC Sept/13 - Gelli Print Journal

Here's the journal as promised of all the samples I've been making with instructions etc. Love the way it turned out. I even used up a bunch of "rejects" to cover the covers both inside and out...

-and I'm using a sentiment stamp from Quietfire Design on the inside which I thought was quite appropriate "Creative Journeys"

Also using my Silhouette to cut out the words on the cover which I lettered with a bullet tipped marker, scanned and then cut. This machine works so well. Love it...

And it fits for these challenges:
Inspired by a book  #226 inspired by a book
Frosted Designs  add texture

Create4Fun challenge #33

There is such a nice challenge on Create4Fun this week. The challenge #33 was to create something using the supplied template of a box. It seemed all the designers were on the same track, since they all decorated the templates as boxes. When I looked at the scalloped edge, I saw foam, or bubbles or something similar... BIG GRIN, Then after deciding what color I would use, this soda glass/box booklet was created.
I also utilized my Cricut to cut the scallops on the cardstock pages. That saved me a lot of time. I'm still in love. BIG GRIN

And of course I used my Zutter binder and Quietfire Design Rubber.
And it's a free for all on Lots to Do challenge this week, so I'm submitting this bokklet for that too.

Hand Bound Journals

Well I made 3 hand bound journals yesterday. Am happy with the results. I'm well into decorating covers for 3 more journals. Two of the journals are Zutter coiled, painted canvas, hard cover journals. Love this style. The other is a whimsical one, using pistachio nuts (yes I made one last year, but it was in white and different), and real gold leaf and painted with acrylics in a technique learnt recently. Sherry's Journal

OK I made another of my Zutter coiled hand bound hard cover journals for another friend. We're often a threesome, so if two of has a journal, it's not fair that the third one doesn't have one. BIG GRIN. Anyway, this one is covered completely with hand painted/decorated unprimed canvas, technique learnt in Christine Ahmad's class. I also use a quote rubber stamp from Quietfire Design and word stamps from Roann Mathias along with a bunch of other things. Click on image to see more details and close ups etc.

Technique Journal

A good friend just had a milestone birthday (I won't mention which) and I thought I'd make her something special. So I created this technique Journal, similar to one I have. It was a labour of love. I also made a box for it and finished off a card I had started in Betty Locke's class a while back. I wondered who I would be giving it to. Anyway, the paper I used to cover the cover was from the Paper's Transformed book by Julia Andrus "Radiant Batik" love that technique, so I included the instructions in the journal. I also included a whole section on the embossing paste series I had done a while back. Then some stuff from the Magenta class we all took, especially the pocket type card which I made from some hand made paper I did during a play day we had last year. And the recent origami tea bag type flower done with the nestabilites scalloped circle. And we had just attended a demo by Els the representative of the Peel Off's and she was showing her new line and some wonderful techniques. So I included them too. Now we have to have another play day so we can continue adding to our journals. BIG GRIN and it looks like we'll be doing that probably next week.

A friend of her's organized a surprise birthday party (and she was definitely surprised). We went to Alloy a classy type restaurant. Food was delicious, but NOT cheap. I had Ahi Tuna Tartar for an appetizer @ $9, Lobster Ravioli with scallops, shrimps and a mango cream sauce @ $32, and Creme Brulee @ $9, so with tax and tip which was included in the bill it was over $70 for lunch. That's not something I do very often, if ever. But I had things I definitely wouldn't make at home and they were done to perfection. We stayed for almost 3 hours, so was a ncie time. Then I went to work and got picked up later by another friend to go to our Guild's exec meeting. Got home at 9:45, and of course it was frigid outside and my heatings not working again. The guy is coming over today to hopefully fix the problem once and for all. Very frustrating when you can't rely on a new heating system working. Should have stayed with the old - totally reliable. No computer parts and over sensitive components that shut a system down.

A couple more Journals

I've squeezed in making a couple more journals for our Guild's Show and Sale. I've been wanting to make a double journal for a long time and I finally did one. I also was eating pistachio nuts a while back and thought they'd make great little niches or something, and it was such a waste to through the shells away. So I hoarded them until now. So I'm a little more nuts than indicated (pun intended...) Enjoy.
I have 3 more things I really want to make, hopefully there's still enough time. Too many other things creeping in, but then I like those things too, so how do you say no to any of it. I don't. I have the philosophy, if it's meant to be done, it will be done even with everything else creeping in. "Laissez faire" personality, at least I think that's the phrase, I'm losing my French.

A couple more books

Here are a couple more books that I've been making. The circle one is called Dotty and it's Zutter bound. It's a play on words "dotty" being circular and a little crazy... which this book is. The pages are two sizes of circles made from cardstock. I think it's cute.

The other one is hand bound and called "Treasure Trove" which is
what it feels like to me, When I put on the Grungeboard hinges and the Grungeboard lock and then added those faux rhinestones, it just called to me as a treasure within. I also decorated each cover page with Pan Pastels giving me a nice colored spine edge. I had fun making it.

CBH Challenge for Aug 19th

I've been really busy making journals and since I was in that mode, I made this weeks CBH Challenge as a journal too. I have the Modern Mark Making book by Lisa Engelbrecht and I noticed the way it was bound and said I had to try that. It's the best of both worlds being coil bound and hard cover bound so you don't see the coils. Love it and will make more, but it is labour intensive...

I also went to a friend's house yesterday for a play day. A couple other friends were there too and we did Suminigashi marbling. Lots of fun. It's more delicate coloring than the marbling I did last year, but for the right items will work really well. I digress, while we were playing my friend showed us an accordion journal she had made and the covers were done with a weaving technique that uses two pieces of decorative paper with the same design. I was intrigued, so tried that and it worked out really well and had a space in the design where I could add the Asian symbol for "Dream" which is this week's theme.

Zutter Journals & LadyBug Book

I've been busy for the past couple of days making more Zutter journals and books for our GUild's xmas show and sale. I used my paste papers to decorate the covers of the Zutter journals. The book is done in the same way as "Geisha's Hideaway" I did a while back. This one's a bit larger and done with ladybyg printed mulberry paper.

More Zutter Journals - Mayfair Cover stock

As I said yesterday, with the miserable weather we were having (not that it's much better today), I've been creating and these are the journals I finished. They are made with white Mayfair coverstock pages and a few colored pages. I even made a couple really small ones. Only 2" high x 6" long. I'm happy with the results. A friend in my Byhand group got me thinking about making recipe books. That's my next venture.
Well the next venture has been uploaded as well.
I finished a bright colorful, funky ReciPies book and a journal with a gold parchment type paper. Love them both.

Zutter & Zutter Waste

I recently bought a Zutter binding machine. I've made a bunch of watercolor journals (link to my web site for the other journals) with mat board covers. Well you have to clean a little slot out ever once in a while so the waste doesn't foul up the machine. Well I was looking at all these little chips falling onto my work surface and said what a great background it would make. Well this is the result. Click on image to go to the descriptions etc.
