Stampede 2015 entries

http://yogiemp.com/Calligraphy/Artwork/Stampede15_Brush&PointedPen_SingingInTheRain.html
I can finally post my entries to Stampede for this year... I demo'd calligraphy bookmarks yesterday morning and had a wonderful time. We had a lot of visitors to our booth, and the weather was gorgeous.

These are the 2 entries I submitted. Singing in the Rain was entered in to Brush Lettering/Pointed Pen category and won a 3rd place ribbon

http://yogiemp.com/Calligraphy/Artwork/Stampede15_Dream&Tutorial.htmlDream was entered in to Neuland category and won a 1st place ribbon. This is the one that was done on a gelli plate and that I gave a tutorial for. I've demo'd the Calligraphy on gelli plate technique a few times here in Calgary. Lots of fun.

Anyways, just click on either image to see the details for that piece. Enjoy, and thanks for looking.

Stampede & Calligraphy

Well I went to Stampede today to see how I did... So I got a 1st place ribbon for my Neuland piece and a 3rd place ribbon in mixed alphabets for my Nasturtium piece. I was up against some good competition and the 1st & 2nd place winners deserved those ribbons...

You may not remember me mentioning, but it was a difficult job making my pieces this year for some reason. Normally I'll do a piece and it will usually give me a zap... but this year nothing was really zapping me, hence the proliferation of calligraphy, trying to get to that zapping moment.

Stampede 2012 - Be Content also Wild & Free

Pointed Pen: Wild & Free

Update July 9th: Both these pieces received a 2nd place ribbon. The pieces that beat them at Stampede were absolutely fabulous.

It was take in day at Stampede for this years contest pieces, so it's safe to upload my entries... It definitely took me a while and almost thought I wasn't going to be entering anything this year. Nothing sparked my creative juices and every time I thought about it, I kept veering to it being the 100th anniversary. I really didn't want to do anything specifically with that in mind... hence the dilemma, my brain couldn't focus. Then I came across an image of wild horses and loved them so much, and then I came across the poem and they just clicked - I was in love. The calligraphy lettering is a new style of font for me and I created it with a Pointed Pen, so entered into that category.

Neuland: Be Content
I love doing funky Neuland, and that's the category this one was entered in to. I did this piece a bunch of times, starting as a black and white with the central text being wider. I really wanted a narrow central text and the other pieces as borders. So various sized nibs were tried before I got the size right and then it was still just blah!! So I incorporated the color on either side. Now it was good.

Whether these pieces win and ribbons or not, makes no difference to me, although i would be a little disappointed, but I love them for the way they turned out, the adventure in creating them and just putting my soul into them. As it turns out, one of them is already sold.

Anyway, click on either piece to see more details and descriptions etc. Enjoy.

Stampede 2011 Ribbons

Well I came back from Stampede today and was totally amazed that my pieces won ribbons. For some reason this year I really didn't think they would... And then to top it all I'll be making some money too. Sheesh

The one on the left got a 1st place ribbon and 2nd place section ribbon in the Roman category
The one on the right got a 1st place ribbon and a 3rd place section ribbon in the Neuland category

You can click on either broadside image to see more details. Enjoy

Stampede 2011

The entry deadline has passed and I'm finally able to upload my Stampede pieces I entered for this year's contest. What with some ATC's I did a while back and the piece on the left, you can see I was in a Zen - doodle mood, and I'm using one of my favorite styles - Funky Neuland... you all know how I love "funky".

The piece on the right is basically Roman caps proportions. I recently took a class taught by Renate Worthington - "More than Just Roman Caps" and got a new appreciation for these letter forms. This is a layered piece, with the pencil worked letters as a base (they're not traditional Romans) but really like their look.

Anyway to see more details and descriptions, just click on either piece and you'll be taken to that web page. Enjoy. Now I keep my fingers crossed. I'll know on July 10th if I won anything. BIG GRIN

Stampede artwork

These are the two pieces I submitted to this year's Stampede contest.

Love the one on the left which was a serendipitous piece. Some of you may recognize aspects of it from a couple cards I made a while back with the Adirondack chairs. I'll be really sorry to see it go.

The one on the right is a quote I also did a while back on a Galleria piece, made it a bigger size and added the second quote. It's a pity it doesn't show up better, because it's a beautiful piece in real life. I dry embossed it on watercolor paper and really wanted to keep it white on white, but it really wouldn't have shown well through the various protective glass, so I sponged some color on it to make it stand out more.

Click on either piece to see descriptions and details etc. Enjoy
Now the wait until the judging and Stampede actually opens. Keeping my fingers crossed.

Stampede 2009 entries

I was just reminded about my Stampede 2009 entries which I hadn't uploaded yet. Sheesh, senility is creeping in... Anyway, I just created my web pages for it, but since I don't have the actual artwork in my hands anymore, I already forgot what I used as substrates. see I told you it was creeping in, since that was only a month ago that I created them. Anyway, click on either image to see larger versions and what I remember I did to create them.

Stampede 2008 entries

The registration deadline has passed and I'm now able to upload my Stampede entries. I'm very pleased with the results. I think they are a couple of my best pieces so far. The bamboo shoots are done with Pan Pastels. The dragonfly mat is a very heavily embossed mat that i rubbed Metallic Rub On over the raised surface. Enjoy
