BVCG Galleria - March 2025 - Whirlpool

Our Guild's (BVCG) Galleria topic for March 2025 is 1 word written 5 ways. I've done this before for a Scribbled Lives prompt. So needed to do something completely different...

On Canson mixed media paper created my whirlpool lines and then wrote in various lettering styles using a Zig Writer or a Sharpie pen. Painted with various brands of watercolors and a gold Uniball gel pen.

Believe In Yourself - on Black

I created this piece while playing with the gals in my Stillman & Birn Nova Tria Mixed Media book (black section).
size: 6"w x 5.5"h
Designed my letters then inked them with a Uniball white gel pen. Colored with Black Edition colored pencils leaving a narrow black section around each letter. When done I had these empty areas which I filled with my odd shaped boxes. I decided to leave them blank rather than color them in.

On a Edge Mixed Media paper using Uniball gold gel pen to outline the letters (Mykolas Saulytis - 36 days of Type 2019). Coloring with Posca colored pencils and a Lyra Splendor Blender. Added a black line to create a 3D letter.

Doodled Weave - Your Imagination

On Edge Mixed Media paper drew my weave design using various sizes of Pitt Artist Fine Liner pens.  Colored the rocks using Posca colored pencils. Text outlined with a thin black Pitt pen and colored around the letters. Gold gel pen accents added.

On Edge Mixed Media paper using a Juice Up pen and Posca Colored pencils. Doodled in a couple letters. Added the text to rhyme with the last letter in each section with a Zig Writer.
Added some Pan Pastel med gray to the background.

Doodled Roots - When Roots Are Deep

Well this doodle looks better in real life... that brown color is way off.

On misc white cardstock doodled the roots... Colored the negative areas with a brown Posca colored pencil. Fickle text written with a Zebra nib and Sumi ink.

Black Hole In Time

This piece just evolved without any thought... and when I saw the black hole in the center with the balls floating within it, it reminded me of the Black Hole in space.

Doodled Ovals - No Abstract

I created the abstract design using ovals while playing with the gals.
size: 4.75"w x 5.75"h
Cut out a section to fit the quote into. Adhered the pieces to the blue cardstock and then wrote the quote using a Micron .02 pen in basic monoline.

Scribbled Lives - wk 48 - Thankful - Dr Seuss

I created a doodled abstract design using ovals and used a large part of it for another calligraphy piece... so this frame off cut was lying on my desk. It was a touch to small for the finished piece so cut it apart and adhered it to the red textured cardstock adding the black corners to make it a frame again...

On Edge mixed media paper, wrote out the text with a Juice up pen and colored with Posca colored pencils and blended with a Lyra Splendor Blender. Adhered the frame and then adhered to the red cardstock.

Scribbled Lives Wk 47 - Wilderness - Wilderness

On Canson Pro Marker paper drew out the large word, then erased the area for the first part of the quote. Outlined with a Zig Writer and text with a Juice Up pen. Colored with Posca colored pencils in various shades of autumn - even though we got more than 6" of snow so far...

Uncial _ Yes 1 & Yes 2

  

I'm taking a 2 day class with Barb Fuller (a BVCG Guild Member) in Uncials. It's one of my favorite hands... but does take up a lot of room especially since I don't like using small nibs...

On Canson Pro Marker paper I used a Simply Simons #10 chisel brush (for both "Yes's") - which is a touch smaller than 1/2" and loaded it with water - one letter at a time. Dropped in Ecoline inks into the wetness. Blotted it a bit so it would dry faster...

Top Yes: shadowed on the right side with a Caran c'Ache B pencil and paper stump. Outlined on the left side with a medium toned blue Juice Up pen.

Bottom Yes: wrote the text with a black Juice Up pen and used a yellow colored pencil to shade around the words.

Env: Created the env on Edge Mixed Media Sketchbook paper. I love this Blue Rider Typeface that I discovered a while back for your name on the envie and quote on the card front. Colored with Posca colored pencils. I'm using Tutti Designs Leaves Background "Tutti 388" die from white cardstock then colored with various Distress pads in yellow, red and green. Cut them apart to border the envie.

I've been playing with my wax seals again (it's been years since I used them last...) so had to add one to your card front.

Env: I used Edge Mixed Media Sketchbook paper. I love this Blue Rider Typeface that I discovered a while back for your name on the envie and quote on the card front. Colored with Posca colored pencils. I'm using Tutti Designs Maple Vine Frame "Tutti 139" die from white cardstock then colored with various Distress pads in yellow, red and green. Cut the frame apart to border the envie.

I've been playing with my wax seals again (it's been years since I used them last...) so had to add one to your card front.

Postage Stamp - Sakura Branch 32c

I've been playing with creating postage stamps, Not sure why... but having fun anyway... I'm planing to shrink them in size and then create framed wax seal artwork. Will see how that works out... Hence the scanning so I have lots to mess up with...ROFL

On Edge Mixed Media paper using a Juice Up Pen. Colored the background with Posca pens but didn't like the color of the sky... so changed to the blue and now it looks like a water and sky background. I kinda like that. Not my original intention... The rest was colored with Black Edtition colored pencils.
