Woven Booklet

I had all these skinny end cuts from geli prints in my off cut basket... and finally decided to use some of them creating these weave patterns... Then I framed them with black cardstock and adhered them to a solid piece of white cardstock and they became covers and page dividers (5 total).
Size closed: 5"w x 7"h x 1"thk
I cut up regular copy paper for the pages (5"w x 10"w x 5shts) and folded in half to create my signatures.

I haven't done hand bound bookbinding in years and really forgot how to do it... so fudged it. Turned out OK. Hung some hand woven beads from scraps as well.

End Cuts - Sewn Skinny Booklet

I had these copy paper end cuts
size: (1.75"h x 11.5"w) sitting on my desk from another project and said to myself they would make a cute mini booklet... I'm looking at it and thinking I need to pierce my holes to the inside to hide that white coming through. c'est la vie...

Booklet size: (1.75"h x 5.5"w) Ten pages folded in half - 4 signatures and bound them with a simple 3 hole binding technique using dark brown waxed linen thread.
Used cardstock for the covers and wrapped it with a scrap of a pretty scrapbook paper lying on my desk both inside and outside... and with a tiny piece left over made the buckle...

Christine Ahmad - Fusion Letters Booklet

I used a heavy weight white cardstock from my stash (no idea what make it is...) cut 5 sheets to 7.25"w x 10"h, folded in half for a landscape mode booklet. Did a basic 3 hole stitch booklet using the same cardstock (used it all up...) and 4ply Olive Drab waxed linen thread (Crawford Threads Belfast)

Drew out the title using  ZIG Writer and painted with Yasutomo Pearl metallic w/c. and needless to say... I had a spelling mistake so created a funky letter and squeezed it in.

Art Of The Fold - Buttonhole Binding - 2024 Artwork

2024 has come and gone... and since I had given myself a challenge to upload something to social media every day I ended up with a lot of artwork... so I thought I'd better bind it to keep it all together.

I recently saw a buttonhole binding - something I haven't made in several years... so thought it would be perfect to hold all my 2024 artwork not including Scribbled lives artwork - that's a different binding..

I adhered 2 pieces of 110# cream cardstock with a 1" strip for the spine. Created 2 more to give me 3 folios (12 pages). I created 7 more (total of 8 x 12 pages).

Trimmed and adhered artwork to the pages trying to keep it in date order... but that was impossible since some were small pieces of artwork so had several different dates on one page. c'est la vie...

The covers were made from regular cardboard from boxes and covered with a collage of various designs of cork fabric. I wanted a thick cover and was too lazy to pull out my sheets matte board or foam core. Inside of cover adhered a piece of the cream cardstock to keep it neat.

Bound with butterscotch 4ply waxed linen thread in Buttonhole
stitch.

Added a metal ornament to hold the title on the cover and book corners to save those edges...

Scribbled Lives 2024 Bound

I'm early getting this year's Scribbled Lives bound... 38 pages plus covers. It's called Australian Piano Hinge you can find the instructions HERE

Size: 11"w x 8.5" h x 1.25" thk

I adhere two 8.5 x 11" pieces of cream 110# cardstock together to create a 4 page spread and did that 10 times adhering the spine area with another piece of the cream cardstock 1"w to have 1/2"gued to each piece of cardstock. Scored and folded. Cut 2 slits - 1.5" up from the bottom and cut a 1.5" slit. Repeated from the top edge.

Cut a piece of the cream cardstock 1.5"w by the length of the paper and started an accordion 1" fold. Adhere more cardstock to the end until I got the length I need for all my folds. Cut the red textured cardstock 1"w x 8.5"long.

Inserted the both folded accordion strips into the slots of the 1st folded page and slipped the red cardstock piece through the accordions. Repeated till all pages were attached.

Covers are a dark green mat board. I adhered a piece of the red textured cardstock as a decorative element and also to hide the ends of the spine accordion while holing the book to the covers.

Die cut the big letters using Tim Holtz "Word Play" Bigz die from one of my geli prints. Adhered them "topzy turvy" and shadowed with a white Uniball gel pen.

Open Spine Ribbon Binding - Blue Geli Print

Since I found her name again… Ali Manning (vintagepagedesigns.com) - July 16/24 post. (https://www.handmadebookclub.com/) and realized mine is differently made than hers… I decided to make another one... BIG GRIN.

Size closed: 4.25"w x 6"h x 1"thk
I cut Staples copy paper  to 8.5 x 6" and folded in half. Each signature has 8 of these folded pages and 1 of my geli prints, and there are 5 signatures.
I pierced 14 holes either 1/2" or 1/4 for the ribbons.
I added a 1"w by 6"h piece of the same geli print paper to each of the geli print pages on the inside to reinforce the spine area. I bound each signature with a light blue 4ply waxed linen thread. Then threaded the ribbons under the binding thread with a large holed needle, tying the ends with a double knot.

I think I prefer my 1st booklet more. It seems more sturdy... HERE

Open Spine Ribbon Booklet

I saw something on-line and was intrigued... I should have written the link name because I couldn't find it again to see if I did it the same way... c'est la vie. (Ali Manning - (https://www.handmadebookclub.com/)
Size closed: 6"w x 7"h x 1"thk
I cut some Columbia Mills LBS End Paper to 11.5 x 7" and folded in half. each signature has 8 of these folded pages and there are 6 signatures.
I pierced 12 holes either 1/2" apart or 3/4" apart depending on the size of ribbon I was using.
Each signature had the ribbons going thru the binding as I was binding the booklet. A little awkward but Love the results.
Added brass corner protectors.
Ah I found her name… Ali Manning (vintagepagedesigns.com) - July 16/24 post. And mine is differently made than hers… so I guess I’ll need to make another one. BIG GRIN

Scribbled Lives 2022 Bound

I'm on a roll and now 2022 for Scribbled Lives is bound... 16 pages plus covers

Size: 8.5"w x 11" h x 1.5" thk
I mounted the artwork onto an unknown brand cardstock that feels like 120# or heavier white cardstock. Didn't even know I had this stuff... hidden behind some other things. sigh!! There are quite a few that I only have images for since they were 3 dimensional. Covers are the same white cardstock. Punched 3 holes using my large Crop-A-Dile and used a brown 4ply waxed linen thread in an altered Slip Knot binding. Added home made beads from eons ago - I think FIMO, as well as some paper beads.

Slip Knot Booklet - Creative Ponderosities

A good friend sent me another batch of interesting questions...
Size closed: 5.25"w x 6"h x .5"thk

I have since altered the technique of the basic Slip Knot Binding by binding from the back page to the center page and from the front page to to the center, then tying the ends together. Much neater.
I used a cream toned Value Pack cardstock. Turquoise 4ply waxed linen Irish thread.
For the decorative part of the pages and front title I used a hand carved notebook rubber stamp and various combos of Distress pads misted with water on Genoa Bond calligraphy paper.
I LOVE this stamp I carved... it's approx 4"w x 6"h with 1/2"h row height.

Slip Knot Binding - Celtic Key Patterns

The challenge for our next Art Of The Fold Group (May 2024) had us making a slip knot bound booklet. I've done several of them and still love them... Since I've started doing Celtic Key Patterns I decided to make the booklet to hold them. I went in a VERY COLORFUL direction...

size: 8.5"w x 9.5"h x 1"thk

Raided my cardstock stash and assembled 14 different colors plus the white covers. Added a strip of 1"w yellow cardstock on both sides of each piece of cardstock to reinforce the binding edge. Punched 3 holes approx 1/2" away from my edge.

Bound it a little differently than usual. I started the binding from the back edge but stopped at the halfway point. Then started from the front page working towards the center of my pages. Attached both sections by tying a double knot bow.

I like this way a lot better because I think it's a lot neater...

Then added the different colored strips of cardstock and the title.

You do have to pay attention to the orientation of your pages, otherwise they may end up upside down... ROFL

Funky Alphabet Bound

Funky Alphabet Bound... I used a very heavy misc white cardstock and adhered all my letters to both sides of the pages. I bound it using a single page Slip Knot technique  with 4ply turquoise waxed linen thread. I drew and cut out the letters for the word "Funky" from a geli print I made, adhered to the cover and outlined with a Sharpie pen. Created a ribbon underneath the title for the word "LETTERS"

Silver Years Booklet

A friend sent me a bunch of old timer style sayings and I was in a mood to create a booklet with them...

I recently got a 12 x 14 geli plate... no more seams down the middle of my pages... and since I was making something for a commission I decided to make a bunch more pages.

It's 3 signatures of 2 folios with a total of 24 pages.

Another friend had just given me some wonderful 80# paper that had a slight glossy feel to it and I love writing on it... sorry don't know the exact name of it... Text written with a Nikko G nib and Sumi ink in my style of script writing...When cut I edged it with a blue Zig calligraphy 2.0 nib then adhered it to my geli plate pages.

I found the tutorial (Sea Lemon) for the binding (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QUmioC9-_5g)

I die cut the scalloped ovals (Spellbinder's) from white 80# paper and a larger one from core'dinations "Elements" assortment. Adhered to covers only on a 1/4" of the right and left edges so the band could slip under the ovals to hold the booklet closed.

Love the title done in a funky style using a pointed nib and Sumi ink.

BVCG November Galleria - Slip Knot Booklet - One Liners

Slip Knot - One Liners
Size: 6"w x 4.5"h x  3/4" thk

Our Galleria topic for November 2023 is "One Liners"... since one liners don't take up much room... I decided to do a bunch of them and create a booklet.

On Fabriano 1264 Mixed Media pape, sprinkling the paper with Brusho w/c powders in various colors. Used a pointed nib in Fickle style lettering. When all the pages were done I decided to add a bit of flourish details in the open spaces.

The back and front covers were covered with some of my Brusho background on the Fabriano paper, and I wrote the title on the front with a Zig Writer and shadowed with Kuretake "Gold Mica" ink and a pointed nib.

I used a slip knot style for binding using a blue 4ply waxed linen thread.
