Illuminated Y - You Have To Think

Today was supposed to be day 2 for our Uncial class with Barb Fuller... but we had a dump of over a foot of snow with frigid temps... and the roads needless to say were not good, so I cancelled going to class - sigh. Instead I created my version of an illuminated letter picking a "Y" for my name and than getting a quote to fit the oversize letter.
size: 8.5"w x 5.5"h
On Canson Mixed Media paper drew out the large "Y" and then the autumn leaves around it in an oval shape using a brand new Sharpie fine tip pen. Painted with watercolors and Kuretake Mica Gold ink. I doodled into the letter before painting using a small balled stylus.

I left the Madagascar style lettering plain.

BVCG Env Exchange_June 2024 - Renate Worthington

Envie made with Elephant Hide paper embossed the name using a double layer of Staples 110# cardstock to create the Wes Wilson style letter template and then using 4 sizes of embossing tools. Shadowed the letters with a Posca brownish colored pencil. The address done in an Art Nouveau style with a ZIG Writer.

The card: I saw some flowers on a friend's blog and had to draw them... using Posca colored pencils, Gold gel pen for the cross hatching on the oval and a Juice Up pen for the words.

Neuland Thanks - Dry Embossing

I find dry embossing very hard to get the results I want... it never comes out as pronounced as I would like. I'll keep trying. I guess I should try on art paper instead of regular cardstock... but thanks Sue Greenseth for a wonderful Neuland and embossing class.

Created my embossing template from regular cardstock. adhered a piece of thin paper like tracing paper to the good side, adhering drop out pieces like in the "A" and gluing down the pointy contours to prevent them from deteriorating while embossing.

On blue Recollections cardstock embossed the word "thanks" then using a cotton ball applied Pan Pastels all over. Rubbed a clean cotton ball to remove the pastels from the high points then adhered to a card base.

I turned them into cards...

Embossed - Wild West

Our next galleria will be "Under the Western Sky" which is the theme for Stampede this year. This was my 2nd piece for the theme... but didn't like the 1st one too much... I really like this one though... and my embossing finally worked the way I had envisioned...
size: 8" sq
On black Full Spectrum Color Line I embossed my "WILD WEST" words using various sizes of embossing tools. Highlighted it with a white Juice Up pen. and wrote the rest of the text with a gold Juice Up pen.
PS: I cut my stencil from 2 pieces of 110# Staples cardstock glued together. I really massaged the paper with the largest embossing ball I had to soften for stretching it... but it worked...

words:
In the heart of the Wild West I found my soul.

Truer words couldn't be said for me...

Art Nouveau - Dance With The Waves - Dry Embossed

size: 9"w x 7"h
On Canson Mixed Media paper using a Sizzix 2mm embossing tool scribed my words, then with the flat of my Posca colored pencils colored the waves in various blues.
words:
Dance with the waves
Move with the sea
Let the rhythm of the water
set your soul free.

Celtic V Embossed and Metallic Rub On

ID: Celtic "V" embossed and colored
Size: 4.25"w x 4.5"h

I created a cut file with my Silhouette Cameo cutter , and cut out 2 on 110# cardstock adhering them together. Then embossed on the blue cardstock. Then I thought of using my Old Island Stamps - Metallic Rub On (gold). I should have used a sponge applicator so as not to get it around the design but just on the high points... It's been toooo long since I've used that stuff.

Thanks Roberta for the nudge and inspiration

Art Of The Fold - Tunnel Book - Merry Christmas

Our December project was to make a tunnel book. Haven't made one of those in several years... and since we're in December... thought I'd make it an Xmas themed one.

I used a heavy weight white cardstock (unknown brand probably 140#) for the pages. Dry embossed the cover and hit the high points with a red Distress pad.(I forget it expands the paper a bit so my first page warped a little - sigh!!)

The back page was stamped with a winter house scene and the area around the stamping colored with Distress Oxide pad Broken China.

I pulled out a pile of wintry and tree dies and cut from Staples white 110# cardstock. Colored with Distress pads. Added some glitter to the snowflakes and glossy accents to the red berries.

Well if nothing else I've finally used some of my embossing folder/stamp and dies which I haven't used in many years...

Impossible Box - Altered

I was thinking (which I sometimes do...) after making my first Impossible Box and was a little annoyed it wasn't useful, so mulled it over and decided to be able to open the box on the bottom as well so it becomes useful rather than just decorative...

Art Nouveau - Believe - Dry Embossing

I really like this style of lettering... So thought I'd try it using an embossing tool for a 3D effect. There are a couple things I'm not happy about it but that's for another time...

Slip Knot Booklet - This, That, Whatever

I've been meaning to create one of these Slip Knot Booklets with odd size pages... so I raided one of my drawer stashes...I've got too many of them... BIG GRIN. The stuff in this booklet is probably from 10 years ago... I'm so glad I finally got around to using some of it.

Slip Knot Booklet - Be Happy

I created a couple more of the Slip Knot Booklets to test the string I might be using for an upcoming class. I'm content with this one. It's a lot thicker than I might have chosen but it works and I like the fuzzy tails...

Pencil To Paper - Illumination - JOY Card

And the "JOY" card I mentioned in my ATC post recently. Since the "J" on it's own didn't make a great card... I created the "O&Y" and cut them out and pasted them to the Illuminated piece. The card is a beautiful off white pearlized cardstock. I'm happy with the way it turned out...

Pencil To Paper & Illumination Triptych ATC's

Further to the class I took on the weekend with Ann Purdy "Pencil To Paper" I had created a "J" that was too large for an ATC - sigh, so that one became a greeting card which you'll see in another post...

So then I created the "O" the right size...

I also caught part of Cheryl Tefft's Illumination ZOOM class held by the Edmonton Calligraphy Society - it was held during my in person class... so couldn't really catch it till I got home and watched the last hour. So decided to combine the 2 techniques. I really like the results of this set of triptychs.

Books Rock - Happy B-Day My Friend

There was a free ZOOM session with Helen Heibert on Aug 31/21 for this rocking card "Books Rock" Fun... I created mine to fit into a 5 x 7" envelope.
On Staples Cream toned 110# cardstock cut out the structure. I used a different size to what Helen showed us. (11"h x 6."w) scored at .5" from the top, then 2.3" and 3.3", having the ground piece ending up being 4.8". I also didn't glue it closed, instead I created little tabs that fit into a slot so it can be disassembled to lay flat. It rocks beautifully... BIG GRIN
