Mini Booklet - Celtic Knots

size: 4.25"w x 2.25"h closed
I've been playing with Celtic letters recently because of a class by the Edmonton Calligraphy Society. I decided to make a booklet of the two lettering styles I liked so I didn't have large pages to carry around...
I had these paper ends from my Guilds genoa bond paper laying in my stash and decided it would make a nice booklet. Then the booklet was laying on my desk and decided these letters would fit in nicely...
The letters look similar in the images but they have quite a few differences within the alphabet.
The cover was a piece of cold press w/c paper I had done some sort of background on and laying in my stash. Hand bound with 3ply un-waxed linen thread. Wrote the word "Celtic" in one of the styles with a pointed nib and misc white ink.

Used the Mica gold for knot outline and Prisma pencils and a splendor blender for the coloring. Thought I'd play on the "big" word

Celtic Knotwork Lettering - Dream On

Edmonton Calligraphy Society had Pauline Baynes teaching Celtic Letters last month. I was not able to attend but she was kind enough to allow me the handouts. Love all the variations but they are definitely time consuming... She gave 3 exemplars and I thought I'd play with all 3 BIG GRIN. This was the 1st exemplar.

Dream On:

On Canson Mixed Media paper,
Outlined with a ZIG Writer, painted with US Art Quest Mica w/c Metallic set, 2B Grafwood pencil and paper stump shadow.

On Canson Pro Layout paper drew out my 1st pattern then copied it multiple times...

Celtic Key Patterns - Z - Zees

We had our Celtic ZOOM meeting a couple days ago and some of the gals had done a "Z/T" pattern and then Adrienne created one on Procreate... and I thought I'd do anotherone as well. Mine is different in that it is 2 interlocking "Z's", so I guess it's kind of a Celtic Knotwork pattern as well....

I used the same template as yesterday's post from some cardstock and then just twisted and turned it to create the design.
size: 3.5"h x 5"w
On Fabriano Mixed Media paper using a Signo Black gel pen. Painted using Finetec Rose Gold (given to me by a good friend) and Gansi Tambi "Light Gold #905"

The word is one of the Art Nouveau lettering styles from my recent class with Violet Smythe.

Celtic Key Patterns - Z - Shades of Brown

We had our Celtic ZOOM meeting a couple days ago and some of the gals had done a "Z/T" pattern and then Adrienne created one on Procreate... and I thought I'd do one as well Mine is different in that it is 2 interlocking "Z's", so I guess it's kind of a Celtic Knotwork pattern as well....

Again I created a template of the letter from some cardstock and then just twisted and turned it to create the design.

size: 5"sq
On Canson Pro Marker paper using my cut out template created the design using a Zig Writer, then I thought some of the lines would work as a knot pattern  and then I was in a mood to add spaces between my pattern... You know how these things evolve...
Colored the negative spaces with Posca colored pencils in... shades of brown... and then decided to doodle inside some of the letters using brown Juice Up pen and a Unibal Signo Gold gel pen. Lettering for the words is something I came across on dribbles.com

Slip Knot Binding - Celtic Key Patterns

The challenge for our next Art Of The Fold Group (May 2024) had us making a slip knot bound booklet. I've done several of them and still love them... Since I've started doing Celtic Key Patterns I decided to make the booklet to hold them. I went in a VERY COLORFUL direction...

size: 8.5"w x 9.5"h x 1"thk

Raided my cardstock stash and assembled 14 different colors plus the white covers. Added a strip of 1"w yellow cardstock on both sides of each piece of cardstock to reinforce the binding edge. Punched 3 holes approx 1/2" away from my edge.

Bound it a little differently than usual. I started the binding from the back edge but stopped at the halfway point. Then started from the front page working towards the center of my pages. Attached both sections by tying a double knot bow.

I like this way a lot better because I think it's a lot neater...

Then added the different colored strips of cardstock and the title.

You do have to pay attention to the orientation of your pages, otherwise they may end up upside down... ROFL
