Exploding Booklet - From Me To You

Size closed: 2.5"w x 2.75"h x 7/8"thk
Made from misc black thin cardstock mostly 60#. I created individual pockets. Originally adhered with the same cardstock but it didn't like being folded back and forth so they started to split... so added a very narrow black ribbon on the front and the back. Then created the tabs with the ribbon on top (that took a bit of cutting) to go in the pockets for the text (as seen 1 word per pocket...). I added a wrap around and then decided to create an open box to hold it. Text written with a pointed nib and Bleed Proof white.

Shades Of Blue - Learn To Surf

I was in a mood to some kind of blending w/c and this evolved...
size: 6"sq
On St Armand 140# w/c paper. I mixed a large batch of diluted Daniel Smith Phthalo Blue (green shade) with water. Painted the whole page with that color, then painted over it with the same paint mixture leaving one section untouched (that very light blue). Repeated about 7 times before it wouldn't get any darker. I like doing this technique... It reminded me of the ebb and flow of waves.
Added the text using a pointed nib and Bleed Proof white in a loose script style.

The top piece: BRIM - the letters outlined with a Unibal Gold gel pen and painted with all the colors of blue in one of my palettes. (Holbien - Peacock Blue, W/N - Cobalt Blue, Manganese Blue & Winsor Blue (red), Grumbacher - Cobalt Blue)

The middle 2: OKRA, ACED - the one on the left with Derwent Inktense w/c pencils and Bleed Proof White.
The one on the right done with a Zig Writer and Derwent regular watercolor pencils.

The bottom one: PENCIL - all done with an Caran d'Ache HB pencil and added shading with paper stump.

Floral Doodle - Black & White - Interpretive

On Scrapbook black cardstock created the doodle using a Uniball white gel pen and a touch of a white Prisma colored pencil.

Scribbled Lives Wk 5 - Birth Gems - Turquoise

Created the gem artwork and cut it out using it as my "o" for my gem name. On black scrapbook cardstock drew my main word coloring with Black Edition colored pencils and a Gelly Roll white gel pen.

Soap Bubble Art 2 - Light And Shadow

I was in a mood to do some soap bubble blowing artwork... As I found out adding too much color on the large bubbles creates big blobs when the sink to the paper...
On Fabriano Mixed Media paper using water with soap detergent blew bubbles and then transferred them to my paper, dropping some of the Ecoline inks onto the bubbles (Lt Green, Sky Blue Cyan, Scarlet, Dp Yellow). When dry,  added graphite shadows blending with a paper stump in the large holey areas...
Quote written with a Brause 515 nib and Bleed Proof White ink in a pointed pen Bookhand style.

Soap Bubble Art - My Soul Is Full

I was in a mood to do some soap bubble blowing artwork... As I found out from the first piece I did I had to be careful not to drop too much ink onto the bubbles or I'd get no bubbles and a bunch of solid blotches...
On Fabriano Mixed Media paper using water with soap detergent blew bubbles and then transferred them to m paper, dropping some of the Ecoline inks onto the bubbles (Lt Green, Sky Blue Cyan, Scarlet, Dp Yellow). When dry, doodled with white and gold gell pens and Juice Up pens and some Bleed Proof white ink with a pointed nib.

Doodle - In The Midsr Of Chaos

On Canson Mixed Media paper created the abstract design using a Zig Writer. Painted with watercolors and Gansai Tambi gold. Added white Unibal gel pen dots.  Adhered to a mid toned blue cardstock.

Crown Book 2- Number Rhymes

Our challenge for our December meeting will be the Crown Book #15 from Hedi Kyle's "Art Of The Fold" book. Last time I did this book was in July of 2021. This one is a bit smaller.

I raided my geli print paper (done on Columbia Mills LBS End paper) and used both sides to create this booklet. Since I recently did a floral alphabet book I thought a numbers Kids rhyme booklet was needed...

I'm using one of my favorite funky lettering styles for the text (which I don't know the name of...) done with a Zig Writer.

I found the numbers (a font on my computer) just done in a black outline too pale so added a white inner line using Bleed Proof white and pointed nib. I find they really pop now.

My turn for the Scribbled Lives theme...

Created my project on w/c Canal Paper St Armand.
Wet the paper and dropped in Yasutomo Vermillion ink, then blotted up some of the really wet spots. Drew out the letters then outlined with a Juice Up pen. Shadowed with a Sharpie then added the white with Bleed Proof white and a pointed Zebra nib.

On Canal paper Saint Armand painted the feather with various brands of watercolor adding Bleed Proof whit veining and rib. Text written with Nikko G nib and deAtramentis Pearlescent Cyan Blue - Copper ink.

Again I created a template of the letter from some cardstock and then just twisted and turned it to create the design.

On Recollections black cardstock using a pointed nib and Bleed Proof White ink drew out the outline. Colored with Black Edition colored pencils.
Decorative detail done with Juice Up Metallic pens in various colors. Added the word "Quirky" using a Signo white gel pen in a funky Art Nouveau style.

Pull Out Booklet - Ponderings

I was showing some of my friends how to make this booklet at our last Drop In session and I decided to make mine larger...

Since I took a class in Art Nouveau lettering with Violet Smythe I thought I'd use that hand for this booklet (you'll probably see me doing this hand a lot...). Bleed Proof white and pointed pen with a Nikko G nib.

I used various colors of Recollection cardstock. The cover is made from 2 pieces of very very heavy white cardstock and I added a piece of gelli print for the spine area.  

P1: An Irishman walks into a bar in Toronto and orders  a drink. The bartender noticing his accent asks "what brings you to Canada?" The Irishman says "well, I was in a pub in Dublin and the coaster under my glass said drink Canada Dry" so I thought I'd give it a shot".

P2: You know you're getting old when a recliner and a hearting pad is your idea of a hot date. 

P3: Are you sweating whilst putting petrol in your car, feeling sick when paying for it, you have got the carownervirus.

P4: Why is it after I push 1 for English I still can't understand the person on the other end.

P5: As I fold my 3rd load of laundry I contemplate becoming a nudist. Then I remember what I looked like naked, and keep folding.   

 

Wes Wilson - If It's Not Your

This was our final day and while Amity was demoing... I was creating...

On Bee Super Deluxe paper drew my circle and painted inside with 3 waves of color blending where they overlapped. Then painted around the circle with Winsor Blue (red). Drew my Wes Wilson inner text in a spiral layout and painted the negative areas with a ZIG Writer and Sharpie... Wrote the outer text with a pointed nib and Bleed Proof white ink.
Since this style is hard to read for many people, I wrote it in monoline around the circle... I shortened the quote by not using the words "if it' in the 3rd sentence and "if you"in the last sentence.
