CCG - Carrie Imai - Akim Cursive

This was from a 1.5 hour ZOOM class hosted by the Colorado Calligraphy Guild on March 13, 2024. I wasn't able to attend so watched the replay.
After practicing the basic letterforms Carrie had us do a few pieces with multiple words.
I used a glass pen for the 1st 2 and for the bottom 2 a Speedball C-2 nib all with Ecoline ink.
On the 3rd words, I added a shadow line with a Juice Up pen and on the bottom image graphite shading and paper stump. I like the bottom one...

I liked the top one so played with it - see below for details.

Artistic Endeavors
size: 6"w x 1.75"h
On Canson mixed Media paper wrote out the words using the glass pens and 3 colors of Ecoline ink (Sky Blue - Cyan, Magenta and Deep Yellow) allowing the ink to merge with the previous color.
Below you can see one of the word pieces and then working my way down to full black background using a Zig Writer.

Pic 1) Original
Pic 2) Outlined
Pic 3) Partial black background (not sure if I wanted to stop here...
Pic 4) finished piece

I kinda like all 4 variations. I guess it's my mood that will choose each time I look at this pic...

Roman Rebels - Barbara Close Class

I took a ZOOM class with Barbara Close, "Roman Rebels", March 9 & 10. 2024 hosted by Idaho Calligraphy Guild. Love her style.

Roman Rebels - Alpha Blue & Green & Alpha Brights
size: each 5.5"sq
On Bee Super Deluxe paper wrote out the alphabet with a Zig Writer interlocking and twisting the letters... Painted with Koi Coloring Brush pens.
I'm a more colorful person so repeated the design (minus one little detail...) and painted with various brands of watercolors.

Roman Rebels - Pressure Release - Mysterious
size: 5.5"w x 6.5"h
On Canson Mixed Media paper wrote out the quote using a Caran d'Ache Grafwood 4B pencil in a pressure release style. (still need more practice...)
words: The most beautiful understanding in the world is that of the mysterious. Albert Einstein.

Roman Rebels - BFly Dreams
size: 5.5"w x 3"h
On Canson Mixed Media paper masked out the border and applied Pan Pastels in a brownish and yellowish tones. Removed the mask and wrote out the words with a pointed nib and Sumi ink. Added the BFly and leaf sprig.

Roman Rebels - Enjoy Every Moment
size: 3.5"w x 5.5"h
On Staples 110# cardstock drew in my border with the bullet tip of a red Zig Writer. Wrote in my words in overlapping abstract design using a Zig Wrter. Colored the background areas with the orangey color and the 1st letter of most of the words with the reddish color. Wrote the words under the abstract but will need to redo that area... messy...
words: Enjoy every moment of your special day.

Roman Rebels - Get Well Soon

size: 5"w x 7"h
On Staples 110# cardstock masked off my border with Washi tape and applied a couple tones of green Pan Pastels. Transferred my lettering design and wrote them out with a pointed nib and Sumi ink in pressure release style. Added the horizontal lines. Used a kneaded eraser to remove color in some letters. Added the outside border.
words: The main function of your big to is to make sure all the furniture is in the right place. Get Well Soon

Sigh Sept Is Almost Gone

I was feeling a bit down knowing Sept was almost gone and winter was too close for comfort... depressing.

On Bogus Recycled Sketch Paper and using a Sharpie pen to write the large letters. Highlighted it with a white Gelly Roll 08 pen. Small Akim style text with a Juice Up pen

words: sigh Sept. is almost gone.

Wk 21 - Experiment - Until It Finally Flows

http://www.yogiemp.com/Calligraphy/Artwork/ScribbledLives2020/ScribbledLives_May2020.html

On the Scribbled Lives 2020 Facebook challenge, this week was "EXPERIMENT". I seem to be living up to that word...

My favorite is the one above. I love the controlled  square kind of structure.

Quote: Experiment, Experiment, Experiment until it finally flows from within you. Itis a hard road. But the result is also a deep satisfaction. Jack Dickerson

Yes I believe those words...

Here are the rest of the examples of the same quote. Placement and color experimenting.

Wk 21 - Experiment - How High We Can Fly 1 & 2

http://www.yogiemp.com/Calligraphy/Artwork/ScribbledLives2020/ScribbledLives_May2020.html

On the Scribbled Lives 2020 Facebook group the challenge was "Experiment". Came in just as I was experimenting with a technique that was demoed on TammerGGhoneim's Instagram using a watercolor ink in a Parallel pen and then dipping in to an acrylic ink. Not something I think I've ever done before. I love double and triple loading pens and brushes, but usually with the same type of ink. Granted mine didn't quite turn out as great as his, but I'm content for now with the results...

I'm also continuing to play with Akim lettering.

Scribbled Lives 2020 - wk 20 - How Did It Get So Late

http://www.yogiemp.com/Calligraphy/Artwork/ScribbledLives2020/ScribbledLives_May2020.html
Scribbled Lives 2020 - Wk 20 - Time. Since I like the topic I thought I'd do another piece and I love Dr Seuss quotes. They are so playful - make me smile - which is a good thing in this day and age...

There are a few things I'm not happy with on this piece, but since I've done the quote more times than normal, I said that's it. Maybe I'll come back to it one day...

On Staples 110# white cardstock wrote out my underlying variation of Akim text using an empty 6.0 Parallel pen as a dip pen and various colors of Holbein Gouache.
When dry wrote the rest of the quote using Zebra G pointed pen nib and Sumi ink.

Quote: How did it get so lat so soon? it's night before it's afternoon. December is here before June. My goodness how time has flown. How did it get so late so soon? Dr Seuss

Scribbled Lives 2020 - Week 20 - It Is Time - Rose

http://www.yogiemp.com/Calligraphy/Artwork/ScribbledLives2020/ScribbledLives_May2020.html
Scribbled Lives 2020 wk 20 - Time. I like this topic... and since I've been taking the online class with Julie Wildman "Variations on Akim" I thought I'd do a bit of practicing. BIG GRIN

Using a Haff 629 ruling pen and Bleed Proof white ink and then coloring in some negative and positive spaces with Pitt Pastels on Fabriano black cardstock.

Quote: It is time you have wasted on your rose that makes your rose so important. Antoine de Saint Exupéry ("The Little Prince")

Akim with Julie Wildman - Enjoy Your Day

http://yogiemp.com/Calligraphy/AkimWithJulieWildman.html
Day 2 of the Variations of Akim class with Julie Wildman. Lots of stroke practicing with various tools. I NEED A LOT MORE PRACTICE...

But then I was in a mood to do something we'll be playing with tomorrow... I love the vibrancy of the Pit Pastel pencil coloring against the black and the Bleed Proof writing. I'm using my favorite brand of ruling pens "Dreaming Dogs" although I must admit this is one (Little Lie) of the least favorite of the 6 I have.. But it worked well with this style of writing.

Akim - onLine Class with Julie Wildman

http://yogiemp.com/Calligraphy/AkimWithJulieWildman.html
We had our first day's lesson with Julie Wildman doing the basic letter forms of Akim. Our homework was to create ligature  joins of every letter in the alphabet (except does that is almost impossible to do...)

Here is what I did today...
