Alan Wake's vacation gone awry continues today in the first add-on chapter to developer Remedy Entertainment's psychological thriller. Stock up on batteries and grab your flashlight for The Signal.

Those that purchased Alan Wake new received a token to download The Signal at no additional cost. If you bought the game used, the DLC is available for 560 Microsoft Points ($7).

"In this latest chapter, our favorite writer is in greater peril than ever before as the boundaries between reality and nightmare become disturbingly distorted," Microsoft said in a statement. "Threatening to overwhelm Alan's mind, the nightmarish mysteries feel chillingly familiar."

The Signal features new locations in Bright Falls for gamers to explore and "innovative gameplay."

Sharkey says: Microsoft is still bullish on an Alan Wake sequel after soft sales. Remedy says its ready and willing to get going on a follow-up adventure, but the fate of the franchise will likely depend on how well the additional paid DLC chapters sell. On a side note: if you're a fan of Alan Wake and haven't seen it, watch Twin Peaks. It's twisted and brilliant, though it does jump the shark hard about halfway through the second season.
