To commemorate the 15th birthday of its world renowned street brawler series, Capcom presents Street Fighter Anniversary Collection. Comprised of two distinctly different chapters in the SF videogame universe, Anniversary Collection includes Hyper Street Fighter II (a blend of all five Street Fighter II titles with multiple character variations) and Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike. Offering five different soundtracks, multiple voice tracks, and various different modes of play, Street Fighter Anniversary Collection also contains the full U.S. DVD version of the 1994 film, Street Fighter II: The Animated Movie in addition to adjustable gameplay rules.
Last year Capcom graced the PlayStation 2 with Street Fighter Anniversary Collection, and it was good. So good, in fact, that we picked it as our fighting game of the year. It did have one major oversight, though, which was a decided lack of online features. The Xbox version looked to remedy that, but its release date was pushed back into 2005. Now here we are in the future, and, as promised, the Xbox version of SFAC is just getting around to sneaking its way into stores. It looks to have been worth the wait, as it's every bit as good as the PS2 version ... and the online play makes it even better. Read More »
Last year, Street Fighter Anniversary Collection hit the PlayStation 2, and we loved it. It combined two outstanding Street Fighter games in one, finally bringing classic Capcom action to Sony's mass-market monster. A shortcoming as sad as it was unnecessary: a lack of online play. Read More »
Hadouken. Shoryuken. Tatsumakisenpukyaku! If you mistake these classic phrases for senseless garbage, then you probably weren't around during the heyday of Street Fighter II. Capcom's 1991 masterpiece did more than take arcades by storm; it changed their very nature, by shifting the focus of games from fighting the computer to fighting other people. It was like that moment when the apple hit Newton in the head and Fig Newtons were invented; afterward, everything was different. Street Fighter II: The World Warrior spawned no less than four upgrades, each adding features like new moves and more playable characters. These upgrades culminated in 1994 with Super Street Fighter II Turbo, an excellent fighter that still holds up to this day. Read More »
1991's Street Fighter II was one of the most influential video games of the decade, and I have fond, fond memories of lining up to dump my quarters into each and every installment. Street Fighter II tapped into something primal -- the human desire for competition. With its simple premise and flawless execution, it single-handedly created the modern fighting genre. Now, over a decade later, Capcom is paying tribute to the game that started it all. However, Street Fighter Anniversary Collection is actually two games in one: Hyper Street Fighter II Anniversary Edition and Street Fighter III: Third Strike. Read More »
