GoldenEye: Rogue Agent

Fair

EA's latest Bond shooter invites you to be the bad guy, but it turns out evil isn't as rewarding as you might have thought. Read Review

Why save the world when you can rule it? Going where no previous James Bond game has dared to tread, GoldenEye: Rogue Agent breaks all the rules by transporting players to the dark side of the Bond universe to experience life as a high-rolling, cold-hearted villain. As an aspiring 00 agent dismissed from MI6 for reckless brutality, you hired as an enforcer by Auric Goldfinger, the wealthy super-villain with a lust for all things gold. Cross paths with such legendary allies and enemies as Oddjob, Scaramanga, Xenia Onatopp, and, of course, Pussy Galore on globe-spanning missions of vengeance and demolition as you make your unrelenting rise through the ranks to the top of the villain world. Featured modes include story-driven campaign missions, deathmatch style simulator trials, and objective-based war games for single and multi-player play.

However, EA has failed to replicate the overall quality of Rare's effort, leaving Rogue Agent as nothing more than a vaguely competent FPS with a big-name license. Read More »

If you've played Nintendo 64 at all, then you probably know all about GoldenEye 007. Based on the unspectacular James Bond film, Rare's first-person shooter transcended its source material and stunned gamers with its quality multiplayer action. Put another way, it was the Halo of the mid-late '90s. Since then, the James Bond license has migrated over to Electronic Arts, which has turned it into a semi-regular franchise of shooters. With its latest, though, EA hopes to tap into the success of Rare's N64 classic. GoldenEye: Rogue Agent is best described as a spiritual sequel, though the changes go far beyond the simple switch in development teams. Read More »

For a long time, whenever someone mentioned console shooters, GoldenEye for the Nintendo 64 was the first game that came to most gamers' minds. Not only did the game have a challenging, well-designed single player game, it also had the best one of the best console multiplayer modes seen to this day, a fact that wasn't lost on many FPS connoisseurs. In fact, the game is so popular that I actually know a few people who kept their N64s simply to keep playing it. Now, though, they might finally have a reason to move on to bigger and better things.
