Art journal page - Jump at your own risk

 Hi everyone,

I'm back on the blog with a new art journal page. It's a quick one that I created in my lunch break as I'm still mainly working from home.

I started by stamping the newsprint in several spots and did not care much for a perfect impression. On top I used some Lindy's sprays and water and dried the page with my heat tool.
I added some more stamping with the writings and scribbles collage and some splatters of watered down gesso and dried it again.
Here you can see the two stages of my background, the first steps on the right and with the added finishing touches on the left:

I used a cut out photo of the jumping Grace Kelly as my focal point and paired that with a text stamp from the latest release: Jump at your own risk.

That's it - a quick but fun project. Here are a few more photos of the finished page:

Stamps used:
Sheet Of Newsprint (20676)

Banksy: Cast of Characters

Hey everybody,

Today's project was a little time-consuming as it took me a whole weekend but it's also one of those that left a blissful feeling after finishing it. It's a little zigzag album with a whole lot of Banksy stamps. While working through the project I found this "Cast of characters" sticker that worked great as a title.

A few hours before I started my project, I took a mini online class about abstract paintings where a large sheet was painted and cut into smaller pieces. This was a great inspiration and I tried that myself. I used a large sheet of watercolor paper and added chalk paint, soft pastels, a Stabilo All pencil and Posca markers in black and white. I cut 12 pieces with a size of 5 x 2,5 inch and glued them to a zigzag album with some masking tape.

Using different mediums and mixed media techniques I worked my way through the album and added more and more stamps, most of them Banksy images. To make the back of the album appear a little neater, I glued strips of design paper to it.

For my covers (one for the front, one for the back), I used the same paper. I glued it onto chipboard and altered it with some Starburst sprays and Wow! embossing powder. I added the powder onto wet gesso that I applied through a stencil. This way I got a pretty nice texture. I also added some stamping to both covers and the sticker I already mentioned earlier to the front and adhered them to the rest of the album.

Here are a few detail photos of the project:

Clowning Around with Mail Art

Hello Crafty Friends!

Welcome Back to another
Mail Art Monday!

Stamps Used:

I started with an A2 sized envelope. The 1st stamp I stamped was the creepy clown.  Once the clown was stamped, I stamped it again on scrap paper to create a mask.

Next, I created the address block by tracing a mini playing card. (I left this in place as a mask also.)

I chose the typeset scallop to use as a banner.
(You know banners are fun right?!)

Once the banner and all of the foreground pieces were masked off, I started on my background.  I used distress oxide ink in cracked pistachio to color my base color. Next, I stamped my grungy circles in the same cracked pistachio color.

At this point you can remove all of your masks.  I used Blick alcohol ink markers to add all my base colors.  I added a bit of blue watercolor colored pencil around the banner too. I added extra details with a white gelly roll pen.

Live Your Art | Sue Plumb

Hi everyone!
Sue Plumb here to share my latest design team project with you. Today I have a mixed media scrapbook page that I created using some awesome Banksy stamps and a couple of photos of my son indulging in some spray paint art action.

This page was alllll about the background! I drew my inspiration from the colours and shapes in the photos to guide me as I constructed my layers. I began by adding some teal Kaisercraft acrylic paint in the centre of my page using a brayer. I then used a wide brush to apply some Colour Blast black heavy gesso in a few spots over the top of the teal paint.

Next, I took a yellow Faber-Castell gelato and added a few little scribbles here and there before using a baby wipe to blend them out into the background. I then went back with my brayer and some white acrylic paint and stripped back the colour a little in a few places. I used the Donna Downey "Live Your Art" stencil and sponged the title in using Staz On ink, then used a Posca paint pen to add a few highlights.

Now it was time for some stamping! I used the Banksy Salvador Dali Street Artist stamp and placed him at the beginning of my title. I also used the Banksy Who's Bad stamp to add the words above him. In the bottom corner of my page I used the Banksy Ladder Painter just underneath my title.

I wanted to add a bit of extra interest and help draw the viewer's eye through my title, so I used the Row Of Chevrons stamp and stamped it several times at the beginning of the title words. I then took a pink gelato and added some random scribbles to the page to mimic the pink on the art in the photos. I also splattered some Colour Blast 'Rainforest' Colour Spray.

Next, it was time to add some textured layers for my photos to sit on. I used a paper doily, some punchinella and some frayed gauze. I then added some cardboard to the back of my photos to pop them up before adhering them on top.

After the photos were in place, I was able to add the Look mum I am a street artist quote using the Banksy Look Mum stamp. (Could there have been a more perfect quote for this page?!)
To finish off, I added some twisted pieces of coloured wire which I secured in place with staples; and then a few dots and spots using my favourite Doodle Dots stamp.

Thanks for stopping by so I could share this with you. I hope I have inspired you to get inky too!

Discover Chipboard Printer's Tray {GDT : Irit Shalom}

>>> We are welcoming Irit Shalom back today with a guest spot. Please visit her first post to learn more about her.

Hello my dear crafty friends! Today I am going to show you my second project made as VLVS Guest designer and this is my tribute to Steampunk. About a year ago I hardy knew that this word exists. Now I am a proud steampunk lover and I made this chipboard tray as my 2014: Steampunk year.

I should say that the only Steampunk stamps I own are from Viva Las VegaStamps! and I bought them long before I was asked to be their guest designer. I just think that VLVS have the best assortment of steampunk stamps in the world! I believe that this is true and not just my statement. Then I have a few steampunk chipboards and some Tim Holt
metals. That is practically all. But look how much can be done just with a bunch of lovely stamps, some inks and a lot of imagination!

So here is my tray: each window is heavily stamped, heat embossed and inked over.

Some of the windows are collaged and some were made with a single stamped image only. The grunge 2014 letters were hand cut and adhered over 3d foam glue for the dimension. I even stamped this small letter in the bottle with Dictionary stamp and rolled into the tiny bottle. As for other techniques: I used crackled paint over the frame and added a darker shade with more ink over the dry paint. I changed the color of metal plaque with alcohol ink. I heat embossed the chipboards around with a mix of 2-3 embossing powders. Not much and maybe even too much. I like the final result and I am very proud of my steampunk project.

And finally I want to thank DeeDee and VLVS for the great chance to be their guest designer. I hope I inspired VLVS blog readers and hope to be back here some day!

>>> Irit! Thank YOU! for being here, inspiring us, and sharing your beautiful work on our blog.
