March 2014 Diva Dare ~ Day 5

"Do The Polka", March Diva Dare

Welcome to March's Diva Dare!  This month's Dare is entitled "Do The Polka".

What we're daring you to do this month is to use polka dots somewhere on your card. Whether you choose to strut your polka dot stamps, paper, ribbon or all of the above, we want to see you do the polka!

I just LOVE polka dots. . .and I love to polka!  LOL  What a fun Diva Dare, right?   For my card, I used Text Objects.  The papers are from the Life of the Party Collection from My Mind's Eye.  I started by stamping the medium heart onto the polka dot patterned paper and cutting it out.  Then I used the Bountiful Backgrounds set and stamped the polka dot pattern and stamped and cut out the smaller heart.

I die cut a large heart using the Jotted Heart Die.  The pink piece of patterned paper has the large polka dots, which make me smile!  :)   As finishing touches, I added the little button as well as the scored dotted line at the top of the card.  Are you ready to polka?

Deadline to link your cards is 8PM Mountain on Wednesday, March 26th.  Entries must be posted 3/7 or later, include at least one Verve product, polka dots, and be linked up to the linky widget by 8pm Mountain on 3/26/14.

During this month's Diva Dare, there are 2 prizes up for grabs!
Win a $40 Gift voucher to Verve Stamps! Take our "Do The Polka" Dare and link up your card (created March 7th or later) to the linky widget to be eligible to win.  One participant will be randomly selected to win the gift voucher.  You can enter as many times as you like, but each card needs to be in a separate post.

Win a set of your choice! For another chance to win some new Verve, leave a little comment love on our design team's "Do The Polka" Diva Dare posts!  One lucky commenter will win a Verve stamp set of his or her choice, so be sure to tune in each day!  Comment deadline to be entered in our prize drawing is March 26, 2014.

Winners will be announced on March 27, 2014.

- Go forth and get inky! We DARE you! -

April Diva Dare 2012 - Day 9

Hello and Happy Saturday!  I hope you've been enjoying the Diva Dare so far. . .I know I have!
This month we dare you to make a card, project, layout, or whatever fits your stamping style using this month's theme - All Aboard! It has been Grand Central Station around the Verve nest lately, Julee and Mark have welcomed two beautiful baby boys into their family and have had their hands full! So on that note, we are challenging you to use chipboard, corrugated cardboard, or kraft on your creation or project! We can't wait to see how you answer the dare! Stay tuned to learn how you could win some shiny new Verve!!

For my project, I used Kraft cardstock and some corrugated cardboard.  I started by die cutting the corrugated cardboard with the I Heart U Die Set and the Jotted Heart Die.  Next I used paint daubers to color them and to "splash" some paint across the card base.  After the paint dried, I stamped the polka dot background from Bountiful Backgrounds in black ink.

I arranged the die cut pieces as well as a scrap piece of scallop border on the card and stamped a piece of a sentiment from Forever In Our Hearts in white craft ink onto the black scallop piece.  I stamped and colored the Fringe Flower Plain Jane with Copic markers, cut it out and added it to the card.  I added a rhinestone brad to the center of the flower and some jute to finish the card off.

Want to know how you can win some fabulous new VERVE GOODIES?

  1. Play along with us and link up your new All Aboard creation (posted April 20 or later) to the linky widget on THIS POST before 6:00PM MST on Thursday May 3. One lucky stamper will win a $30.00 gift certificate to the Verve Store. Verve Stamps are not required, but if you've got 'em we would LOVE to see ‘em!
  2. For another chance to win, be sure to give the Divas a little shout-out in the comments section as we share our All Aboard creations. One lucky commenter will win the Verve stamp set of his or her choosing! Winners will be announced on Friday, May 4th right here on the Verve blog.
Now it's YOUR turn! We DARE you to show us your creations!

August Release Project Parade: Day 6

Hello friends!! Tosh here, and I'm so excited to share my project with you today. One of my favorite things about Verve images is that they're so versatile. So when I found out the theme this release was going to be "Something Old, Something New", I was thrilled. Wedding ideas immediately come to mind, but you don't have to take that direction. This is a challenge, for anyone who would like to play along, to use a previously released Verve stamp set with one of the new sets that was just released this August 20th. (If you don't have the newest Verve sets - no worries, just mix an older set from your stash with a "new to you" stamp set and join the fun!)

I decided to make a Christmas gift set and mix 3 different sets: Fabulous You (August 2010 Release), Christmas in the Air (October 2009 Release), and Bountiful Backgrounds (August 2009 Release)

First of all, I used this weeks Mojo Monday Sketch for the card. I stamped the Fabulous You Frame onto Silver cs with Versamark and embossed it with Detail Black ep. All the snowflakes from Christmas in the Air were embossed also and have a microfine glitter added to them. Because the glitter is so fine, it's hard to capture with the camera. Believe me, I tried every angle possible. It just wasn't happening. *sigh* Anyway, the background was created wth the striped/dot image combo from the Bountiful Backgrounds set. Because Julee's images are clear, it's quite easy to line the stripes up for a perfectly striped bg.

I added some Frosted Sheer Shimmer Spritz (Tsukineko) to the blue card stock to keep the sparkly theme going throughout.

Now for the box. I used all three sets on here as well, along with adding Glittery Spellbinders Snowflakes dies to the top. For the sentiment, I just inked up the words "I believe" from the sentiment "I believe in you".

Here's a view from the top:

That sums up my project for today. I hope I've helped inspire you to mix it up a bit. I know I've been inspired by the previous projects by the Divas. I'm always amazed to see where their creativity takes them. I'd love to see where it takes you too. Haul out those older images, and show us your combination.

There's also a chance to win some Verve stamps - check out how you can score some:

1. Play along with us and link up your new SOMETHING OLD, SOMETHING NEW creation (posted August 25th or later) to the linky widget on the DAY 1 PARADE POST before midnight on Wednesday, September 15th. One lucky stamper will win a $30.00 gift certificate to the Verve Store.

2. For another chance to win, be sure to give the Divas a little shout-out in the comments section as we parade our SOMETHING OLD, SOMETHING NEW creations. One lucky commenter during the course of the parade will win the Verve stamp set of their choosing!
We hope you'll play along! We LOVE to see your creations!

August Release Project Parade: Day 2

Hi there! Jen Tapler here with Day 2 of the August Release Project Parade. I just love this theme!! In case you missed Jen d.'s explanation yesterday, here's a recap of what we're doing this month: The theme for this Project Parade is "Something Old, Something New." You might be thinking "wedding," but it's actually something just a little different. We have challenged ourselves and YOU to use a previously released Verve set with one of the sets that was released on August 20th. If you don't have both a new and an older Verve set, don't worry. Just mix an older set from your stash with a new-to-you set and join the fun! We'd love for everyone to play along!

It seems that I have A LOT of friends with birthdays around this time of year and therefore I've been on a Birthday-Gift-Ensemble-making spree!! I was in desperate need of a last minute (and very late) birthday gift for my BFF, so I have another Card and gifty thing to share with you today using 2 of my favorite Verve sets - the new Dream Big and my old fave Bountiful Backgrounds!

I created a 5.5 inch square card with a Kraft cardstock base and a trio of those yummy layered Dream Big flowers in Stampin' Up's Riding Hood Red, So Saffron, and Pink Pirouette. And of course, one of my go-to looks is that white stamped polka dot background on Kraft! Love it. The "You're So Fabulous" sentiment is from Bountiful Backgrounds. I added some button centers to the two larger flowers, a couple of layered large scalloped borders and some white satin ribbon as simple embellishments on the card.

That little gift bag thing? I used a cut file for my Silhouette, sizing it just right so I could tuck a Border's Gift Card inside!

I've said it before, but I really love creating a special gift box or envelope to hold a gift card or money in addition to the standard card. I'm sure my BFF Sarah will appreciate this. (feel free to stop by her blog and wish her a Happy Belated Birthday, and while you're there be sure to remind her what an amazing friend I am. Maybe it will help her forgive me for totally forgetting her birthday and being so late with her gift!! LOL).

Then, come back and play along with us in the Something Old, Something New Project Parade!!

1. Play along with us and link up your new SOMETHING OLD, SOMETHING NEW creation (posted August 25th or later) to the linky widget on the DAY ONE parade post before midnight on Wednesday, September 15th.

March Project Parade--Day 3

Hello and good morning!!! Amber here with Day 3 of the March Project Parade, "Fun with Flowers!" If you've been with Verve long, you know that there are TONS of beautiful flower sets that are sure to get you in the Spring mood if you're not already there;)

For my card, I decided to go with a newly released set called "Feel the Sun". I really love the flowers Julee came up with for this set, especially the big rumply one!
These flowers are really easy and fun to color, cut out, and arrange with the leaves! My card base is Vintage Cream, followed by some Sweet Blush and a piece of dp by K&Co. I layered another piece of vintage cream and stamped the sentiment (also from Feel the Sun) in Mushroom ink (Adirondack). I cut all the flowers out and layed them out until they looked right, popped them up with dimensionals and added some buttons and glitter!

I wish I could have captured how sparkly this card is IRL. The Sweet Blush panel (stamped with the polkas from Bountiful Backgrounds) was spritzed with Cookie Glimmer Mist and it's really sparkly! I shot it with my heat gun to shorten the drying time, but it really doesn't take long w/out the heat either.

So what have you thought about the projects so far? Wicked awesome, right? Well there are TONS more ideas coming your way throughout the week and into next week! We'd love for you to play along with us in our Fun with Flowers Project Parade this month as well!
As with all of our Project Parades, we've got prizes! There are two ways to win:

1. Link up your new creation (posted March 22 or later) to the Mr. Linky widget on Jen's Post before Midnight on April 8th
2. One lucky stamper will win a $25.00 gift certificate to the Verve Store.
3. Be sure to leave the Diva's a little shout out in the comments as we parade our creations inspired by this month's theme. One lucky commenter during the course of the parade (March 22 - April 7) will win his/her choice of any Verve stamp set!

March Project Parade - Day Two

Hey there! Jen Tapler here with Day Two of the March Project Parade. So every single month when I get the Project Parade schedule, I always let out a big sigh and think to myself "maaaan, I have to follow HER!?!? great." It didn't take long for me to realize that with this talented group of Verve girls there's actually not one single Diva I enjoy following - they all still intimidate the heck out of me. And this month was no exception. How about that other Jen kicking off the Fun with Flowers theme yesterday with that amazing gift project?? Pretty cool, huh? See what I mean? ;-)

When I started thinking about my project, I knew three things (1) I needed a small birthday gift for my good friend and co-worker, Sue, (2) I wanted to use the flower from the new Feel the Sun set as my focal image, and (3) I wanted to keep my design clean and simple (as usual). I came up with this little gift ensemble:

I created the Happy Birthday card first and replicated it's clean and simple design on the other items in the gift. I went with a color scheme of Kraft, red, navy, baby blue and saffron and couldn't resist including the polka dots from Bountiful Backgrounds as a common background element throughout the project. I added a navy blue scalloped border and a folded grosgrain ribbon. My "Fun with Flowers" element comes in the form of my bright red floral focal image. I stamped the large flower from Feel the Sun twice on red cardstock in red ink, cutting out the entire image once and then just the inner portion of the flower from the 2nd image. I popped the inner portion of the flower up on dimensionals and layered it on top of the large flower, adding a yellow button to the center. The Happy Birthday sentiment is from the new Big Wish set.
I also created a matching 4x6 notepad cover by cutting a piece of Kraft cardstock to 6 1/4 x 8 7/8 inches and scoring at 4 1/4 and 4 5/8 inches along the 8 7/8 inch side. I attached a 4x6 "scratch pad" to the inside of the back cover with scor-tape. The front of the notepad cover was decorated very similar to the card, except I used a sentiment from the Feel the Sun set that I felt was appropriate for a notepad Sue could use at work (click photo to view larger):
And finally, we are forever accusing each other and the other Physical Therapists we work with of "stealing" post-it pads from our desks, so I felt Sue needed a special covered Post-It Notepad for her desk. I created the cover by cutting a piece of Kraft cardstock to 3 5/8 x 8 1/4 and scoring at 2, 2 3/8, 5 1/2, and 5 7/8. I attached a Post-It pad to the center section of the cover once it was all folded in on itself and decorated the front.
And there you have it! A simple and unique co-worker gift set that I'm pretty sure Sue will love! What do you think?

We'd love for you to play along with us in our Fun with Flowers Project Parade this month!

March Project Parade ~ Day One

Happy Spring Everyone! Saturday officially marked the first day of spring and all of the Verve Divas are preparing some great spring-y {sure, it's a word!} projects for you to see. This month's theme is...

. . . . .FUN WITH FLOWERS. . . . .

This is a pretty broad theme, so I know that you can play along!

I decided to create a project using die cut flowers {from my Slice Wedding Design Card} stamped with Polka Dots from the Verve Bountiful Backgrounds as the main part of my project.

The sentiment is from the new set, Let It Shine, and is framed with a scalloped circle covered in glazed glitter. The flower panel could have easily been mounted on a card or even added to a scrapbook page, but I thought that it would be fun to create a gift-able project with it. I tried out both real and paper flower pots before I just stuck it in a bad of candy. I think this particular one looks best this way, but it would certainly be fun to create bouquets.

It would be a lot of fun to make this for a gift or other special occasions, too. Just a few ideas that come to mind...

  • Teacher Appreciation
  • Wedding Favors
  • Table Numbers at Receptions
  • Baby Shower Favors
  • Congratulations or...
...Just Because for friends, family or neighbors

As with all of our Project Parades, we've got prizes! There are two ways to win:
1. Link up your new creation (posted March 22 or later) to the Mr. Linky widget on THIS POST before Midnight on April 8th

Spring Fling: Challenge 1

Hi Verve Friends, Lynda here. Are you ready to have some fun?!?!? I hope so because I am!!! The Diva's have LOTS in store for you today!! We have challenges, sneak peeks, a blog hop, partying in the Verve Forum at 9pm EST and of course during our partying & chatting in the forum, Julee will reveal the beautiful NEW stamp sets!!! I am here to tell you, you DO NOT want to miss it, the stamps are AMAZING, as usual!! LOL!!

On to the challenge! I am challenging you to make a CLEAN AND SIMPLE card, project or scrapbook page using FLOWERS. See, easy peasy!! LOL!!!

Here a couple samples to get your creative juices flowing!!! The first card was made by my FANTASTIC guest, Stephanie Kraft! I LOVE Stephanie's work and am honored to have her as my guest today!!!Stephanie used Verve's Love's Flower and Wonderful Wishes (Wonderful Wishes is retired but there is a set called Wishing You that is an update version of Wonderful Wishes that you might be interested in). Stephanie embossed the flower using black embossing powder and layered it. It is difficult to see in the picture but she also embossed (using white embossing powder) the flower on the white background. The colors are so rich and her stitching is perfect!!! I can't seem to get my stitching to be straight like that. I am SURE my sewing machine has a defect!!! LOLOL!!!! Such a gorgeous card Stephanie and THANK YOU for being my guest!!!!

Here is my card ~

For my card, I stamped the background of the Kraft panel using the polka dot stamp from the Bountiful Backgrounds set and Versamark ink. I then stamped the DARLING flowers from the new Verve set called Let it Shine using Snow White ink (PTI). I colored portions of the flower using my Blue Frost Copic Marker, added some blue Swarovski crystals and OF COURSE I added some clear glitter to the colored portions of the flower using my Copic Spica glitter pen.

Here is a closer look at the flowers ~

Aren't they beautiful?!?! Julee always adds such beautiful details to her images. Better get your wish list started, you are going to LOVE these stamps!!!!

To follow are the challenge details!

So are you ready for some more crafty fun? Just make a flowery clean & simple stamped card, project or scrapbook page and upload a photo to your blog or online gallery. Then click the image above to add your link using the Mr. Linky entry form. Entries are due by 11:59pm on Monday, March 8.

One lucky entry will win a $25 Verve Stamps gift certificate!

Have fun and good luck!

Tags, Tins and Treats: Day 4

Good morning everyone! It's Charmaine and it's my turn to share with you my take on this month's Project Parade. I just LOVED the inspiration photo Julee posted and was inspired right away. I just LOVE creating treats for any occasion. Most of the time I'm creating them for my daughers' classmates, but I also love to create them for my friends or family. I know I'd love to receive a little Valentine treat bag like this!

I used the Heart's Desire set along with Bountiful Backgrounds for the polka dots. Everything was embossed using white embossing powder. I stamped a cluster of the hearts from Heart's Desire and cut a couple out to glue over top of hearts in the heart frame to tie in the color of the vintage lettering in the photo. The box was created using the Fancy Favor die from Stampin' Up. The final touch was adding the organdy polka dot ribbon for a handle and filling the box with some delicious truffles.
So, now it's your turn! We'd love for you to play along with us and show us your Tags, Tins & Treats! Verve stamps are not required, but if you've got 'em, why not show 'em a little love? ;)

And, as with all of our project parades, we've got prizes!
To enter, just link up your NEW creation (posted Jan. 25 or later) to the Mr. Linky widget below before midnight MST on Monday, February 15. Home for the Holidays--Day 9

Hello, hello! Has this not been one of the most inspirational Project Parades you've seen? I have come away with SO many ideas for gifts this year! Can't wait to try them all:)
For my project, I've designed a little wall-hanging using chipboard coasters! I don't remember where I got them, I've had them forever and decided it was time to put them to use!

It took me FOREVER to come up with this concept, lol! The funny thing is, it's totally not difficult, but everytime I tried to create something I didn't like it! I'm not so good at 3D alterables so it was challenging! But I really love this wall-hanging and can't wait till the day after Thanksgiving when I break out the rest of my decorations;)

I used a combination of dp by SU! (sorry, I can't remember the name!), Ripe Avacado, Pure Poppy, and Ocean Tides cardstock (PTI). I used the polka dots from Bountiful Backgrounds on each letter in a different color ink. The swirls you see randomly stamped around the letters are from Express Yourself. And of course, the snowflakes are from Frosty Flakes and the sentiment on the "O" is from Christmas in the Air!

Here's a close up of the details of each letter:

Watcha think? I think you should try one! They're so fun and all the new Verve Holiday sets make it so easy!!

Would you like to play along with us? There are potential Verve bucks in it for you if you do! Just link up your project with the theme "Home for the Holidays, Decor, Gifts, and More" by midnite MST, 26 November to THIS thread! One lucky lady will win $30 Verve bucks to spend on anything in the Verve store!! Remember, Verve stamps are not required, just play along and have fun:)

Also, make sure to leave all the Diva's some love! One commenter from a random date of the parade (Nov 11-25) will win a Verve stamp set of their choice, sweet deal for showing your appreciation of all these ladies hard work!

Thanks for coming by! Have a Vervalicious Day!!!

Encouraging Words Challenge: Day 4

What a fabulous challenge this month. Julee has such a wonderful gift of coming up with encouraging sentiments! That's one reason I've always been drawn to her images. So when I found out that this month we were to make a project to encourage someone, I got excited. I knew the exact person I wanted to make something for. I've been blessed to have a personal trainer since March, and she's a sweet little thing. She brings the *hurt*, believe me, but with a smile and encouragement. On two occasions, she commented that she loved the color of nail polish I had on and that she was going to go look for that very color. So I thought I'd get some for her. I also included a base and top coat. Of course I had to make a gift box for it. The bottles are oval and the Standard Oval Nestabilities worked beautifully to hold the bottles in place with an insert.

I combined a few different images for this project. The Fleur de lis and striped backgrounds are from the Bountiful Backgrounds Set, the Star is from You Rock, and believe it or not, there's a star on the bg tag too (if you click on the photo, you can see it better) from the Starstruck set, as is the sentiment on the inside. The tag shape is Labels 5 (Spellbinders), and I added some ribbon, bling, and a decorative border. That's it. I hope you've enjoyed this project as much as I enjoyed making it!!
Tosh ~

So, now it's your turn! We'd love for you to play along with us and show us your card or project focused on encouraging words or friendship. Verve stamps are not required, but if you've got 'em, why not show 'em a little love? ;)
As with all of our project parades, we've got prizes! To enter, just link up your creation focused on encouraging words or friendship to the Mr. Linky widget in THIS post before midnight MST on Sunday, October 18. One lucky stamper will win a $35 gift certificate to the Verve Store. One lucky commenter during the course of the parade (Oct 5 - 17) will win their choice of any Verve set.

August Project Parade - Day 13

Happy Thursday, everyone! It's Mercy! I have been blown away by the gorgeous and creative projects the Divas have been cranking out these last few days...talk about some wonderful Hostess Happiness! For my project I wanted to focus on one of my true loves...writing. Each month I get together with a few of my "wanna be writer" friends to share poetry and/or short stories that we have written the month before. Here is the Writer's Hostess Gift Ensemble for next month's hostess:
I altered an old writer's journal, and covered it with cardstock. I added a lock for privacy, and decorated the cover using one of my favorite sets Enjoy for the focal image. The sentiment in the lower right corner of the journal is from Express Yourself.
My friend has never been to our county library, so I purchased a library card for the next year just for her. I wanted to put it in something cutesy, so I decided to make a gift card holder. I used the polka dots and sentiment from Bountiful Backgrounds, the flowers from Budding Blossoms, and the butterfly from Enjoy to create this trifold library card holder.
What girl doesn't love a little something sweet while she is in deep concentration?!? LOL! I created an acetate box filled with Werther's Original candies using the sentiment from Delightful & Delicious, and the same butterfly used in the other projects.
The hostess also gets to invite three of her personal friends to the next month's meeting, so I created some 3X3 invitations in the same color scheme using the sentiment from A Cup of Life. I added the same butterfly used in the other projects to the outside of the envelopes.
That's it for me today! I had such an amazing time creating my first official Project Parade projects and post! It still seems like a dream...I can't believe that I am a Diva! LOL! Julee...thanks for such an awesome opportunity!
Do you have a fabulous hostess gift idea? We would love to see it! To play along, just make a project or card that shows us your take on the Happiness for Hostesses theme. Verve Stamps are not required, but if you've got 'em we love to see 'em! Just add a link to your creation to the Mr. Linky form in DAY ONE's POST before 8PM Mountain September 12th. Two lucky participants will win a stamp set of their choice from the Verve Store. We've also hidden another $25 gift certificate somewhere along the parade for a random commenter. So if you like what you see, be sure and give a little shout out in the comments of each post!
