Open in Mobile App

Enjoying our eldest daughters birthday has been great! being able to spend some time together while she is doing her teaching prac has been super busy but a blessing to us all. So today's card is a rainbow to suit her cake. I don't own a rainbow die so you know me I will find another way to make one ;)  made with circle dies and a 3/4" punch for the center. The clouds were made with circles......... 1 and 1/4, 1", 3/4" & 1/2" I did some background sponging with two different scallops glued together and finished it with some mini hearts and a little glitter on the clouds. The cake was fun to make and messy too, but I love colour mess! you can find the details for the cake here. Rainbow Pinata cake

I hope you enjoy! sit back now and watch the video :)

Doodle punch art Birthday and a Happy Mothers day

Open in Mobile App Hi all, Ive been having some fun with what I'm calling Doodle punch art.... a combination of flat punch art using designer papers and free hand doodle drawing. I usually have everyone freaking out wondering how to post my huge 3 dimensional cards that stick out to billio but this one is totally flat ... LOL. I made this card for our youngest daughters 18th Birthday..... I know it looks like a boys card but who cares that's what she wanted ;)
For these doodle cards I love to use a natural coloured background. For the punched pieces I chose scraps of designer papers in the colours I needed. Punches/dies used were a 3 and 1/2" circle from one of my nestebility dies for the large moon, two different size star punches, the small tag punch with a little trimming for the rocket body, 3 large hearts from the heart to heart punch for the rocket fins (two cut in half), a 1/2" circle for the port hole and the second largest petal from the blossom petals punch for the rocket flames (trimmed). Punches used were mostly from stampin up.Then I use a fine tip sharpie marker and go to town with your own doodling..... basically edging your punched pieces and then adding in a few little hand doodled stars, dots, moon craters and a little message. This is what will personalize your card. I also did some bunting doodling on the inside to tie it all in using the points of a star punch as the flags.

I found for me this was really fun to do. We also had fun making some buntings and other decorations for her star grazing party. It rained all that morning but praise God the heavens opened up the stars came out just in time to put up the decorations and get the party started! We were overwhelmed at the love and care of Madaleine's friends especially her new friends from our new church, such a breath of fresh air to be around loving caring and encouraging people, just what we need ! It was a great night and weekend together enjoying Mothers day at the same time!

I hope you enjoy this technique and give it a go!
Blessings to you

We also bought Beth back for her mid semester break and she is in the kitchen right now doing some cooking mmmm so nice! here is a pic of Ben's cake, this is the link to where i found a how to on this cake http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9HsfoFX7_Qk

please pray for the safety and God's blessing for Ben's group as the teach and travel.

Now some details on the card as i have fast forwarded the video so I wouldn't bore you all! I used a breakfast bowl to draw my circle, one on the fold for the card base and another full circle for the card front. the three smaller circles in the death star are 1 and 3/4", 1 and 1/4" and 3/4" circle punches. you'll need black ink and sponge, black sharpie maker, ruler, some diamonds and glitter.... watch the video below ....enjoy

Hi all we just had a baby shower for my niece and her husband and though i would show some of the things i made for them. this card was made using a 1 and 3/8" circle punch, a small clip lock bag, a tiny rubber baby, some hair gel and a template found here. I found this link for tiny plastic babies , and also this link. A touch bulky but just the right amount of hair get seemed to work pretty good, just make sure you tape all you layers down well. A close up......

so cute hey! i also made a nappy cake and one to eat for them...her sister had the cute little icing baby made for the top of the cake.

and while were on the subject of family i cant help but mention the achievements of our kids this year....our youngest daughter Madaleine was awarded excellence in food technology coming first in her class for yr 8, 2009 and also was awarded a scholarship to the value of $853 for 2010 school fees. so proud of her! xx

volunteering as a hotel Chaplin for the shoolies week here in Byron Bay well done Beth XX

And the family fun doesn't stop there....we also attended my twin sister wedding on the Gold coast and had a great day..... these are the belly bands i made for their invites .... all made with paper frangipanis done with a small balloon punch

My Daughters 18th Birthday card / pattern

Our daughter turned 18 on Friday. She didn't have any exams that day so she did some study and watched the Olympics till everyone got home and then wanted to open her pressies altogether. our church youth group came over and sang the loudest happy birthday Ive ever heard to her.so cool....our little house was so full you couldn't see the lounge room or kitchen floor. We enjoyed a party the next night with here friends at out local Chinese restaurant ...great times together!!.... I wondered for ages what type of card to make her and this is what i came up with. A 3 Tiered cake card. You could use this for lots of different occasions especially weddings....she loves orange so thats why i kept it simple colour wise . Very simple to do so lets get started and I'll show you how. Using the pattern below cut out your pieces

I cuttlebug embossed all the layers and inked them. Now lay foam tape along the top of the main card which is the base cake....and the back of the small top layer.

Stick down the small top layer to the middle section.

Now on the back side attach foam tape to the bottom middle layer and stick this down......here a back view

these are some cute dimond star stickers i found.....

and of couse a pic of the Birthday girl....and the cake....the stars were lookin a bit sad by the time we got it down to the restraunt but it was yummy and Beth loved cutting through the whole 3 layers.....

Oh i almost forgot the pattern......

and my thought for the day is a text that Beth's been reading each day as she dose here study and exams ....this hangs on the food cupboard where she often see's it while heading for a quick snack ;)....We love you Beth and know the Lord has some mighty plans for your life....love you heaps

PS I received this beautiful pic of this card made by Barb i know your cake making teacher will love it and all the best for you lessons....Luv Valita

Cupcakes..... a Yummy Tutorial

I know there's a million cupcake cards etc out there but who can ever get enough of them...well now there's a million and one. Im sharing my cupcake card and pattern with you all. We made this in class on Monday and it came off a treat. before we start i want to thank you all for your well wishes concerning my uncle. He's still very weak but making progress each day and is stilll very much in all our prayers.

For this card project you will need:
Vanilla or chocolate card stock for the base card.
Vellum for the front of the base card.(cupcake wrapper)
three different colours of card stock for the icing layers.
Red card for the cherry.
Brown card for the cherry stalk.
Cuttlebug emboss folders.
Ribbon and a cute tag.
different colour inks.
Gliter and Dimensional magic.

Now you have all this lets get started. Using the pattern below cut out the base card on the fold. the embossed vellum and cut to fit the front. Emboss the three icing layers with tree different emboss patterns.

Working with the base card...here shown as vanilla cake....attach double sided tape across the top and bottom of the card front and stick your vellum cupcake wrapper over the top. Using a brown ink and sponge, soften all the edges which will help hide the tape under the vellum and look like your cake is cooked to perfection.

Next Ink the edges of the icing layers in the colours to match, punch a 1" circle for the cherry and use the off cut of the circle punch(in brown) to help you cut a stalk, ink these two in black.

These are all our parts done now lets put it together. Lay a strip of foam tape along the top of your card frontTape down the largest icing layer paying attention to where the top of the card is.....shown here in arrows. this is the back view.

Next put another strip of foam tape on the lower part of the next icing layer so you wont see this tape showing at the back.

Do the same with the smallest icing layer.

Heres a back view of the card....the reason i show this is that if your going to make beautiful hand made cards you might as well do the best you can and make it look the neatest you can....no nasty foam tape showing here :)

Now you will shape your cherry with an embossing tool.

and attach foam tape to the back being carefull not to let the tape show after its stuck down.
Glue down the stalk and to acent the cherry ive use a small punch peice at the base of the stalk in black.
Heres a close up

Attach the ribbon...i made a card incert to cover the ribbon and tape inside the card.

An i used these cute little bread clip dies from sizzix for the message

Clip this over the ribbon and keep in place with some foam tape.

Lastly use some kindy glitz glitter on the embossed icing and dimensional magic or crystal laquar on your cherry to give it a yummy shine.

Good enough to eat!!!!!!!!

I was looking at some crochet cupcakes on the net....well i cant read patterns so i winged this crochet cupcake out of my head with some of the funky fibers i have ....the kids laughed when they saw it and thought it was great. Next time ill do a different stitch in the base ...you can see the stuffing........take a peep..... how yummy would this be real!!!!!! LOL

I hope you have enjoyed my cupcake card and pattern....until next post........Valita
