1382: The Persian New Waves: Underground out of the Islamic Republic of Iran [2004]

Tian An Men 89 Records was created in 1993 in the purpose of releasing punk music from parts of the world where, due to financial reasons, civil wars, or lack of record factories, there is no possibility for the bands to release their music on vinyl.

We got the whole idea after extensive travelling and meeting great bands in various corners of the world. Our idea of punk is to accept that exist different definitions of it in different places. Punk is universal and transcends cultures. It is definitely not a sterile, narrow style, monopolized by Westerners, as some would like to believe.

We release limited editions 7" vinyl EP's (500 copies) coz it seems that's been enough so far for the worldwide underground punk network which is usually more into the latest MTV cloned punk stars. We don't care coz we know WHY we do this and that's certainly not for the money! 20% of each release pressed is sent to the bands as their share, so that records are also distributed in the country of origin. Our records (and books!) are not distributed through the commercial circuit. DIY network only. Tian An Men 89 is non-profit and fueled by passion and friendship only!

Tian An Men 89 believes individual positive actions and international solidarity can make a change towards a fairer and more beautiful world.

Roy Montgomery & Chris Heaphy - True [1999]

Experimental guitarist Roy Montgomery was born and raised in Christchurch, New Zealand, forming his first band, the teen garage combo the Psychedeliks, in 1971. After serving out the remainder of the decade in similarly obscure outfits including Compulsory Fun and Murder Strikes Pink, in late 1980 he co-founded the seminal Kiwi post-punk trio the Pin Group; their debut single "Ambivalence" was also the first record ever issued on the now-legendary indie label Flying Nun, its echoing, darkly melodic guitar sound foreshadowing the evocative sonic approach Montgomery would continue to pursue for the remainder of his career. After the Pin Group disbanded in 1982, a year later he received a $750 National Arts Council grant to form the Shallows, their lone 1985 single "Suzanne Said" further honing Montgomery's expansive drone aesthetic. However, he then spent the next five years largely removed from music, instead balancing his studies of Russian language and literature with his interests in cinema and avant-garde theater.

Montgomery returned to performing in 1990 after a chance meeting with fellow Pin Group alum Peter Stapleton led to an invitation to join the fledgling noise-pop band Dadamah. After a handful of releases the group splintered in 1993, with Montgomery resurfacing the following year with his first solo effort, Scenes from the South Island; with fellow guitarist Chris Heaphy, he also formed the duo Dissolve, issuing their LP That That Is...Is (Not) that same year. Montgomery then spent the next year and a half travelling through the U.S., England and Latin America, during that time recording a wealth of new material which found its way onto a series of singles for labels including Ajax, Siltbreeze and Drunken Fish. The full-length Temple IV followed on Kranky in 1996, while the following year he collaborated with the members of Bardo Pond in Hash Jar Tempo, issuing the album Well-Oiled; also in 1997, Montgomery appeared on the Flying Saucer Attack EP Goodbye. The solo And Now the Rain Sounds like Life Is Falling Down Through It appeared in 1998, trailed a year later by the singles compilation 324 E. 13th St. #7. Summer 2000 saw the release of Allegory of Hearing. Silver Wheel of Prayer followed a year later.

PERROSKY Dúo conformado por Álvaro y Alejandro Gómez (GUISO); que en el año 2002 parte como un proyecto solista con el disco “añejo”; en el cual se destaca un sonido mucho mas Folk (voz y guitarra) de lo que llega a ser cuando entra Álvaro en la batería y percusión ese mismo año; siendo un sonido con tintes BLUES Y GARAGE folclórico (FOLKROLL) en donde algunas de sus influencias serán: HOUND DOG TAYLOR, ELVIS Y ATAHUALPA YUPANQUI. Luego de tocar en diferentes lugares de santiago y compartir escenario con distintas agrupaciones de diversos estilos esta banda se consolidara en la escena de la música independiente chilena con el EP “otra vez” editado a principios del año 2004. Para finales del 2005 perrosky graba en los estudios algorecords lo que será el lp debut de la banda , este disco aun no ve la luz el dúo grabo alrededor de 20 canciones en lo cuales se encuentran varios covers , y muchas canciones como LA MUÑECA , EL DESAIRE, ABAJO y muchas mas sin duda este disco es de lo mas esperado en la escena chilena para el 2006 .

Iceland pop experimentalists Múm were formed by Gunnar Örn Tynes, Örvar Þóreyjarson Smárason, and classically trained twin sisters Gyða and Kristín Anna Valtýsdóttir. Formed in 1997, the group met while working on a children's play.

British folk chanteuse Vashti Bunyan learned guitar while attending art school, and in 1964 was expelled for spending more time writing songs than painting; through theatrical agent Monte Mackay she soon met Rolling Stones manager/producer Andrew Loog Oldham, and in 1965 signed to Decca to release her debut single, the Mick Jagger/Keith Richards-penned "Some Things Just Stick in Your Mind." The record earned little attention, and Bunyan moved to Columbia for the follow-up, "Train Song"; after recording a handful of unreleased tracks for Immediate she cut ties with Oldham and ostensibly retired from music, leaving London in 1968 in a horse-drawn wagon on a two-year journey to the Hebrides, with the ultimate goal of meeting folk icon Donovan on the Isle of Skye. Throughout her travels Bunyan continued writing songs, however, and in 1969 she teamed with legendary producer Joe Boyd to record her lone full-length LP, the lovely Just Another Diamond Day. After completing the album she left for Ireland, dropping out of music to raise a family. Long out-of-print and a highly-prized collectible, Just Another Diamond Day was finally reissued on CD in the summer of 2000. In 2005 she returned with Lookaftering, a reference to her years "lookaftering" her family. The album appeared on Fat Cat's DiCristina imprint and featured artwork by Vashti's daughter.

El título del disco dice más que mil palabras que pueda redactar para este post. Navega solo sin interferencias gracias a la amplitud de composiciones creadas en el proceso hoy en día.
La comprensión del sonido para llamarlo música, no a estado exenta de problemáticas, ya que la experimentación a sido vista actualmente en mayor cantidad y ya no solo se crean productos envasados en la industria de la música. Claro que impresiona la sutileza y el despliegue de artistas, el trabajo esta siendo realmente impresionista, según yo creo.
El punto es que la diversidad inunda nuestras vidas, afuera, descúbranla antes de aburrirse, se pueden encontrar con estáticas bellas y re ponedoras, sanadoras, como también infectadas de maldad, la idea es poder elegir y tener un pensamiento sobre ello, por todo aquello, yo aparte de entregar discos, creo significativamente en la casualidad de encontrar sus preocupaciones o aportes estampados por el periodo de vida que tendra "Cuadro-Letárgico", eso entiende el nombre. Hagan sus comentarios, para que puedan participar de esto y practicarlo, también es ayuda, al fin y al cabo escuchamos la misma propuesta a lo que refiere el sonido, espero que actúen. Y gracias por disponer de su tiempo para darle vida al vacio acá circundante, es feedback.

The title of the disc says more than thousand words that it could write for this post. It sails only without interferences thanks to the extent of compositions created in the process nowadays.
The comprehension of the sound to be call it a music, not to condition(state) exempts of problematic, since the experimentation to been seen nowadays in major quantity and already not only they believe products packed in the industry of the music. Clear that it impresses the subtlety and the artists' unfolding, the work this one being really impressionistic, as I believe(create).
The point is that the diversity floods our lives, out, discover it before getting bored, they can meet beautiful statics and recontruccion, since also infected with evilness, the idea is to be able to choose and have a thought on it, for all that, I apart from delivering discs, I believe significantly in the chance of finding yourworries or contributions stamped by the period of life for " Cuadro-Letárgico ", it understands the name. Do your commentaries, in order that they could take part of this and to practise it, also it is a help, in the end we listen to the same offer to what it recounts the sound, I hope that they act. And thank you for having his time to give him life to the emptiness here surrounding, it is feedback.
