Black Dice

Black Dice is an experimental electronica group currently based in Brooklyn, New York, USA.

They formed in spring 1997 soon after guitarist Bjorn Copeland met drummer Hisham Bharoocha at the Rhode Island School of Design. Joined by Bjorn's brother Eric Copeland on vocals and bassist Sebastian Blanck, their early sound has been described as thrash-influenced noise. They released several 7"s and embarked on a few brief tours before Blanck left the group and was replaced by Aaron Warren. In 1999 the band moved to New York City and began to experiment with their sound, with Warren and the brothers incorporating more pedals into their setup and slowly leaving their earlier hardcore-leaning style in favor of a more atmospheric. They are currently signed to Paw Tracks. The release of Broken Ear Record in 2005 and Manoman in 2006 saw the band innovating, incorporating elements of Afrobeat and breakbeat into their releases.

Hablar de Sunn o))) es hablar de aquello para lo que ya no se está preparado. Aquello que ha desaparecido y ha dejado de formar parte del todo, del cosmos. Y esa ausencia terrible, nos provoca una añoranza y un sufrimiento, que trasciende a lo mundano y se acontece trascendente, como la naturaleza primera, como lo perdido, como el si mismo. No se debe luchar contra el zumbido apabullante, sólo dejarse llevar por su destrucción nihilista y mecerse en la desesperación. Si el abismo es sugerido como dice Albert Ribas, por un perder pie, por una cierta falta de fundamentos de base y de argumento como si dijéramos, entonces lo es también por las imágenes de ese mismo abismo que nos provocan una caída sin límites a la falta de principios que al fin y al cabo son lo que define Albert Ribas como el síndrome del nihilismo. Pues bien, Sunn o))) son esas imágenes, ese desaliento, esa carencia, esa destrucción que proyecta las imágenes mentales que nos llevarán a la caída. ” … el ritmo, como en las ragas hindús o las improvisaciones de La Monte Young, debe surgir del mismo drone, de esos bajos tremebundos y pulsantes que un día, quien sabe, tal vez formen una alfombra de puro sonido sobre la cual los visitantes de un concierto podrán levitar (Steve O’Malley de Sunn 0)))) …” En este sentido, Sunn o))) representan el aspecto negativo del experimento, la negación per se, el caos último, y por tanto el aspecto destructor y deshumanizador. Esa búsqueda de la descontextualización, de la destrucción de todo argumento, se persigue mediante el uso de una estética no asociada todavía a una ética concreta, es decir por medio de la abstracción, pero además con el añadido violento y políticamente incorrecto del estruendo y la violencia sin argumentación ni justificantes. Del mismo modo que el “noise” persigue la descontextualización y la abstracción total de la música, por medio del uso del ruido extremo sin condicionantes éticos. Sunn o))) lo hacen con el uso del drone (sonido monótono y repetido ad nauseam) no en vano Sunn o))) conciben su espectáculo como un ritual y se visten y actúan en consecuencia. El arte debe ser trascendente, numénico. El arte debe elevar nuestro espíritu. Así pues, Sunn o))) es el caos, la destrucción … Sunn o))) es puro, limpio …

Jewelled Antler Library

"Jewelled Antler is a loose affiliation of musical artists centred around the releases made or affiliated with two people, Glenn Donaldson and Loren Chasse of the Bay Area, San Francisco, USA. The artists combine an interest in recording spontaneously in natural settings that helps bring about an inherent connection between the music and the surroundings. Their musical inspirations are varied and range beyond folk music to music from India, experimental punk, 60s pop and much more.
In style the music moves in a range between folk acoustic and processed field recordings/collected sounds. Although it is perhaps over simplistic to say so, Glenn seems to bring the more folky element to the music with Loren bringing an interest in exploration and capture of natural sounds. The artists that are directly associated with the Jewelled Antler name have often evolved spontaneously around Glenn and Loren as they travel, meeting friends and fellow musicians.
Music is often recorded live, out doors and direct to tape using instruments that can be carried or powered by batteries, from stringed instruments, mobile keyboards to hand percussion. The structure will often appear improvisational although there is a song writing craft at its heart. Afterwards the music will be processed, edited, overlaid and interwoven with found sounds, fragments of speech, weather, gongs, digital noise, glitches and the like into a cohesive tapestry.
This combination brings together a new sound palette that is unpredictable, evolving and in its simplicity and directness, seems to continue and revitalise the original folk tradition. Acoustic music is often processed to be sound part of the tapestry alongside the other elements. Field recordings are an important element alongside new sounds gained by rubbing and manipulating such as leaves, stones and other natural components.
Although tagged ‘The Jewelled Antler Collective’ this is merely a useful name for artists working in a similar field who are connected with or sympathetic to the intentions which sit behind the music. At it’s heart it derives from the music of Glenn and Loren but extends through their musical friends in such countries as Finland and New Zealand working in similar areas." source

El compositor Clint Mansell hizo su impacto como un creador para banda sonora. Conocido con su producción musical creada para el film Pi. Sobre aquel disco, el antiguo cantante para la Pequeña explosión de grupo británica, se comerá melded un siglo XX abstracto la sensibilidad clásica a electronica con grandes y misteriosos resultados. Sobre el Réquiem para un Sueño - la película de continuación del director de Pi, Darren Aronofsky - Mansell repite su magia. Aquí, combinado con el Kronos Quartet- uno de los mejores y principalesen el mundo progresivo, para cuartetos de cuerdas - Mansell se funde con los grande con direccion a golpear, ambientar, y conduciendo la música de cámara perfecta en el film. El resultado es un complemento auditivo que hipnotiza más a un la película sobre la introspección subjetiva que puedas tener. Oscuro, imprevisible, y a fondo absorción.

Simplemente envolvente, tensión de amplitud variable en el tiempo que actúa sobre alguno de los parámetros conextados a una constante incertidumbre, en los bloques del sintetizador se descubre la raíz venenosa del doble estándar, tan hermosa músika bajo la penumbra!, acción recíproca de locura paranoica y sosiego, alojan en este mundo pervertido antes, ahora oscuro....

si observas atravez del tronco, nace un ave de luz, fuego circundando el mantra de Badalamenti. Las ramas se extienden paralizando el pensamiento, el deseo es corroído, la materia aguarda poder estropiar toda mi dispocision temporal de ejercer un bien en común, discutir es una gran fuente de saviduria, comenten!, motiven la extención permanente de palabras... descubrir al asesino es solo el comienzo, en los oidos atentos.
