Goodbye, Blogger, Rest Your Weary Head Sweet Prince...

Hello, beloved boys and grrls...

Since we started out in our ventures of filmmaking, we've utilized social media and online video and blog sites to keep you abreast (giggity) of all of our exploits. From film news to behind the scenes goodies, from rants to raves, beginnings and ends, Blogger has been the first avenue we embraced to connect with you all. It started at DEAD HOOKER IN A TRUNK and has continued to grow as we have.

Blogger has seen us travel the world. It's seen us at our best. It's been there at our lowest. We've shared laughs and tears and memories that we'll never lose and always have just a library scroll away. But as our lives have changed, so has the world around us. New avenues have opened up for us to connect with you all. We now have so many ways to connect, many very VERY user friendly and so simple even at my most intoxicated can I regale you with every thought that enters into my mind and our long running quest for total and utter world domination beginning with the beautiful nation of Canada.

It is with a heavy heart that we now end our Blogger journey together. As our lives have changed, our time is more limited and we need to prioritize our methods of communication. We will always have our history together, but we will no longer be updating our Blogger. It will now take its well earned place in Valhalla as an archive of our journey from ambitious youngsters who wanted to kick the film world in the balls to the forces of nature we've evolved to today. None of which would have been possible without the love and support of you all and our methods of reaching you all.

Goodnight, sweet Prince. At long last, your work here is done.

You will be able to follow us and all that is to come for us on FACEBOOK, TWITTER, TUMBLR, INSTAGRAM, FLICKR, and YOUTUBE.

Thank you to all of you for being here with as throughout all and a very special welcome to those of you just coming into our lives and everyone in between. Thank you from the very bottoms of our Twisted little hearts....

Fatally Yours,
Jen and Sylv

Traumatic Cinematic Talks to the Twisted Twins

"AL: What does Women in Horror Month mean to you ladies personally? Does it hit close to home for you?
SS: WiH is a celebration for the under-recognized heroes that have pioneered and changed the industry in so many ways. There is a misconception that horror doesn’t appeal to women, the roles within it are misogynistic, and that women are not working behind the scenes to tell these stories. If we can change that viewpoint in horror, where we have this huge uphill battle for reassessment on gender equality, then there is hope for the rest of the industry.

JS: I feel it is about equality, celebration, and recognition. We should be well versed about the history of our industry and I was surprised how little I knew, initially, about the women who were our earliest trail blazers. It’s because they are simply not celebrated nor recognized to the level that they should. It’s also important to recognize that sexism is not a male against female issue as some of the most derogatory, sexist remarks out there come from girls being hateful of other women. And there are some phenomenal male feminists out there."

Valentine's Day Viewing

"With Valentine’s Day imminent, Fangoria has decided our round of Valentine’s lists was just missing something. After all, we hoped our eclectic and eerie choices would help provide a gruesome alternative for any horror fan’s romantic evening. Perhaps, some of our readership may truly believe that romance is dead, and perhaps, that required some further convincing.

So FANGORIA reached out to Jen and Sylvia Soska, writers/directors of last year’s fan favorite AMERICAN MARY, and asked if they could add their twisted touch to the proceedings. Luckily, they obliged, offering us their top ten romantic horror films, guaranteed to warm even the deadest of hearts. So trust the twins and let these films become psychotic staples of your Valentine’s Day!"

Tavern of Terror Talks Twisted Twins

"And the Soskas, I've seen larger, widely read blogs, that bemoan the fact that they're attractive young women who dress like attractive young women have every right to, so this somehow cheapens the quality work they've done thus far. Just what the righteous fuck does their clothes and curves have to do with what they do behind the camera? Please explain! Frankly, I like looking at Jen & Sylvia, if they're using their looks to market what they do, then good on them! If one random dude sees a photo of them, likes what he sees, and rents/buys a copy of "American Mary" out of curiosity, then-mission accomplished!! And, also, fuck that!! Nobody is telling Norman Reedus to look even more greasy than he already does (seriously ladies, what's the fucking deal? 'Cause you all know if you saw Daryl Dixon on the street, you'd be like "ewwwwwww! who's the smelly hill-jack?") because it somehow de-legitimizes "The Walking Dead"! Grow up, some chicks are hot, and they have actual functioning brains, and they make cool shit-deal or move the fuck on."

Bloody Disgusting Talks WiH with Hannah Neurotica

"WiHM Founder, Hannah Neurotica Forman, decided such a month should be set in place after becoming engrossed in feminist studies during college, while at the same time indulging a deep passion for horror and slasher films—leading to feelings of feminist guilt and discomfort. Loving these films yet understanding why they were problematic sparked an internal conflict for Hannah. She felt guilty. It wasn’t until she discovered Carol Clover, author of Men, Women, and Chainsaws: Gender in the Modern Horror Film that Hannah was able to reconcile these two passions. Loving horror and fighting for women’s rights didn’t have to be oil and water.

Although she initially faced a few disgruntled consumers, the cause gets stronger each year, bringing in new advocates and fans in droves. Two of WiHM’s biggest advocates are those sexy albeit crazy twisted twins, literally The Twisted Twins, Jen and Sylvia Soska. Best known for their unapologetic attitude toward horror, and female-driven genre films Dead Hooker in a Trunk and the recent cult success American Mary."

AMERICAN MARY win Horror Central's Fan's Choice Best of 2013

"Katherine Isabelle was absolutely born for the role of “Bloody Mary”, and her performance in this feature is nothing short of hypnotizing. There is no denying that the actress delivers a once in a lifetime performance, making the character believable, terrifying, and sympathetic all in the same frame; and all with elegant and flawless variations of simple facial expressions and features. If Dead Hooker in a Trunk was an experiment, then American Mary is the hypothesis. Jen and Sylvia Soska (AKA The Twisted Twins) set a new standard in independent horror filmmaking, and judging by the amazing leap between their first and second films, this community is nothing short of lucky to have both of them gracing the screen with their horrifying visions."

A huge thank you to Horror Central and all the fans that voted for choosing AMERICAN MARY as one of your favorite films of 2013. To have the fans have voted and chosen means the world to us. Thank you so very much. This is awesome.

Search My Trash Talks to the Twisted Twins

"See No Evil 2 stars wrestler Kane - so what was it like working with him, and are you into wrestling in your private lives?
Sylvia: Here's the funny thing. Jen and I started watching WWF when Kane's character was just being set up for anintroduction. It was a heated rivalry between Jen and me because she is a diehard Undertaker fan and I was pretty in love with the Heartbreak Kid and they were feuding. I will never forget Shawn Michaels getting his ass handed to him and then in comes Paul Bearer with Kane - that must be KANE!!! - at Hell in a Cell. We were so nervous to meet Glenn. We are fan directors and it's how we approach our work - what do we, the audience, want to see happen. I will say I was a hug fan of Kane when we got this project, now I am an even bigger fan of Glenn Jacobs. I learned so much from working with him, the film was important and he brought the calibre to an entirely different level, and he was cool enough to even show me some wrestling moves. So, be afraid, I have minor wrestling skills from Kane. I'm a force to be reckoned with now!

J
en: We LOVE it! Admittedly we don't get much down time doing what we do and we rarely watch TV. I can now tell you that we've gotten back into watching Monday Night RAW, 3 hours of WWE bliss, and let me tell you, it's only gotten better. It was like coming home after being away for so long. At some point in everyone's life, they have been a WWE fan and let me tell you, that never goes away. We are all WWE fans and if you haven't treated yourself to a watch for a while, it's time to come back. It was absolutely incredible working with Glenn. Let me tell you, going in, I was a Kane fan. Coming out, I was and am a Glenn Jacobs fan."

Movie Pilot Talks Twisted Twins

"There is a serious lack of horror female producers and directors in the horror industry. Wouldn't you agree? Well today I want to introduce you to two of my favourite blood splattered girls. They are kickass and breathe new life into the genre. My first ever encounter with them was when they directed American Mary, about a poor medical student who starts to make money and her lecturers assume she starts prostitution, one bad move from her lecturer and BOOM she starts slicing and dicing for body modification. Well she gets her gory revenge."

XX is Coming!

"1.XX
THE HYPE: The announcement of this film got us all giddy with excitement. Riding on the wave of success enjoyed by modern anthology films such as ABC's of Death and VHS, Todd Brown and Jovanka Vuckovic masterminded a new project that brings together the talents of female genre directors for a unique perspective on horror. The first of its kind, this feature will have segments helmed by Jen and Sylvia Soska (American Mary), Mary Harron (American Psycho), Jennifer Lynch (Chained) Karyn Kusama (Jennifers Body) and Jovanka Vuckovic (The Captured Bird). Acclaimed stop motion animator Sofia Carillo will be creating the wrap around story and inter-titles.

Whilst there is no pre-requisite that says female horror fans need films directed by women, or even that they should prefer them over those directed by men, female talent behind the camera is still a vastly untapped minority and its been great to see this slowly beginning to change over recent years. Argue amongst yourselves over how and why the gender of a films director might change its perspective or storytelling slant, but Scream Sirens will always champion those women that break the mould in this patriarchal industry

THE DETAILS: XYZ Films and Dark Sky Films are collaborating to produce XX but there isn't currently a release date or promotional materials available. Don't worry, we'll keep you up to date, be sure to check our weekly news pages for developments."

TWO DAYS until tWIStED tWINS PRODUCtIONS' five year anniversary on December 11th!!

TWO DAYS until tWIStED tWINS PRODUCtIONS' five year anniversary on December 11th!!

"We're very lucky to be able to have Halloween every day, but there is something undeniably special about Halloween. We've almost religiously dressed up every year. It makes me sad to hear "grownups" say that they don't like Halloween and haven't dressed up since they were kids. Where is it written or said that once you reach a certain age you have to stop having fun?" - Jen Soska

"We've been acting since we were little girls. It's an extremely difficult and often disappointing industry and, as we got older, the roles that we were offered consisted of twin girl, stereotypical, sexpot roles. Not that we have anything against that - just in a proper time and place with some justification in the script. It got to the point that we were just going out for roles that we didn't really want in the first place and we realized that we needed a change." - Sylvia Soska
