If They Came From Within: An Alternative History of Canadian Horror Movies
First and only time Jen and I have ever worked separately on projects, I'm dying to see what her fantastically fucked up brain came up with. If you are in Toronto, do not miss this event.
"Dave Alexander, Editor-in-Chief of Rue Morgue magazine, a Canadian publication covering horror culture and entertainment, brings to Toronto “If They Came From Within: An Alternative History of Canadian Horror Movies” - a multifaceted art project that imagines a different, more legendary legacy of uniquely Canadian genre films. If They Came From Within brings these imaginary movies to life via fictional 20+ movie posters -- created by some of Canada’s top poster artists and designers – accompanied by synopses from some of the country’s top horror filmmakers.
Faux horror movies from past, present and future are dreamed up by Bruce McDonald and Tony Burgess (Pontypool), Jason Eisener (Hobo With a Shotgun), Vincenzo Natali (Splice), Éric Tessier (5150 Elm’s Way), Astron 6 (Father’s Day), George Mihalka (My Bloody Valentine), Jen and Sylvia Soska (American Mary), Brandon Cronenberg (Antiviral), Maurice Devereaux (End of the Line), Lee Demarbre (Smash Cut) Brett Kelly (My Fair Zombie), Donna Davies (Zombiemania), Rodrigo Gudiño (The Last Will and Testament of Rosalind Leigh), Karim Hussain, (La belle bête ) and several from Alexander himself.
The artists bringing them to life: Rupert Bottenberg, Angus Byers, Donald Carron, Jason Edmiston, Justin Erickson, Vince Marconi, Mathew Marigold, Richard Patmore, Martin Plante, Ghoulish Gary Pullin, Paige Reynolds, Eric Robillard, Mathew Verreault, Adam Vierra, Mark Unterberger, James White and Andrew Wright. Expect additional multimedia surprises, including original soundtrack music created by Montreal musician Conrad Simon and examples of actual Canadian horror films that never went into production.
Together they create an alternative universe of Canadian genre films.
Please join us between 7pm-11pm on Wednesday, August 7th 2013 at Steam Whistle Brewing (255 Bremner Blvd) for the opening of this exciting gallery show.
Some of the artists and filmmakers will be in attendance. The exhibit will also be on display during the month of August, 2013. Panels promoting the show and featuring several of the artists and filmmakers will also be held as part of Rue Morgue’s Festival of Fear, August 22-25 at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre (more info at: http://www.fanexpocanada.com/horror-attractions)"

Bloody Disgustingly Good Chat with The Twisted Twins
"Jen and Sylvia Soska are the Canadian ladies behind Twisted Twins Productions. After the release of their first grindhouse-inspired feature, Dead Hooker in a Trunk, the twins went on to release American Mary, a critical darling of the indie horror scene last year. On top of their filmmaking careers, the Soska’s are dedicated advocates for the Canadian horror industry and they made an appearance at Rue Morgue’s “Festival Of Fear” over the weekend as part of the Vancouver Fan Expo.READ IT HERE.
Jen and Sylvia sat down to chat about their upcoming monster movie, their love for comic books, Sinister Cinema, and plenty more."

Rue Morgue's Festival of Fear is Coming to Vancouver!!
See you there!!
"FESTIVAL OF FEAR VANCOUVER GORES UP THE WEST COAST
Here at Rue Morgue, there is much we don’t know. How many people are lost every year in the Gore-Met’s beard? Was Aaron Von Lupton born with that pompadour, or was it more of a deal-with-the-devil-type thing? Something we do know, though, is that one Festival of Fear isn’t enough. So we’re pleased to announce the FESTIVAL OF FEAR VANCOUVER HORROR EXPO, going down April 20-21 at the Vancouver Convention Centre (999 Canada Place – and what’s “999” when you flip it around? See, it’s destiny.) Guests will include The Walking Dead’s NORMAN REEDUS; makeup maestro TOM SAVINI; ELVIRA, MISTRESS OF THE DARK; Buffy the Vampire Slayer’s JAMES MARSTERS and JULIET LANDAU; the SOSKA TWINS and more. Keep an eyeball on the official Festival of Fear website for updates!"

Twisted Twins on Rue Morgue Radio
Jen and me on Rue Morgue Radio - fangirl dream moment achieved. Please enjoy our filthy language and horror love.
"Look who popped by the Rue Morgue Studio of Twisted Twins recently! None other than the irrepressible Soska Sisters – the human tornado tag-team of mutually assured destruction.
Jen and Sylvia were in town recently for the Toronto After Dark Film Festival and the Canadian premiere of their latest flick American Mary – the body modification horror opus starring Katherine Isabelle (Ginger Snaps) in one of her most impressive performances to date.
The film hits Blu-ray and DVD in the U.K. in January. No word yet on North American release dates.
Endure."

La Samain Du Cinema Fantastique is Bringing American Mary to France
Bonjour mes amis en France! American Mary is coming to your beautiful country and it would be magnifique if you could make it to the stellar RUE MORGUE FRANCE AT LA SAMAIN DU CINÉMA FANTASTIQUE!!!
"For a French horror fan like me, the same question comes up every October: What am I going to do for Halloween? France is a very traditional and conservative country when it comes to horror entertainment and foreign celebrations. Year after year, there is less and less “trick or t
reat” in the streets of Paris, and the spirit of Halloween is dying. I used to leave France every Halloween to escape the boredom; Anglo-Saxon countries are dream destinations for those who love Halloween parties. But this year, I don’t need to fly to Transylvania or to Scotland to enjoy the Samhain festival. The hottest French destination for the Halloween period is in the city of Nice in the South of France – the site of La Samain du Cinéma Fantastique.
From October 26 to November 3, the folks of Cine Nasty will celebrate the third edition of the coolest horror film festival in the South of France. La Samain du Cinéma Fantastique will host the French premieres of Paranormal Activity 4, Sinister, American Mary, Frankenweenie, Mimesis, The Whisperer in Darkness and The Seasoning House. Festival-goers will also have the chance to attend advanced screenings of Richard Bates Jr.’s Excision, the horror anthology V/H/S, Franck Khalfoun’s Maniac and Grabbers by British director Joe Wright. Cine Nasty will also screen many European premieres, including Nate Taylor’s Forgetting the Girl, the documentary American Scream by Michael Paul Stephenson, Michael Goi’s Megan Is Missing and the world premiere of the Italian movie Red Krokodil by Domiziano Cristopharo. And to celebrate 100 years of Universal classic monsters, “La Samain Du Cinéma Fantastique” will show a newly restored digital copy of The Creature from the Black Lagoon in 3D!"

Rue Morgue Takes a Look at the 13th Fright Fest Line-Up
The horror festival season – that exciting time of year when horror fans around the world seek out their nearest venue to load up on the latest gory offerings – is nearly upon us. Over in London, they are mere weeks away from the thirteenth annual FrightFest, and the lineup is set to be one of the best yet. Here are a few films to keep your eyes on so you’ll be ahead of the curve when they reach these shores. (Unless, of course, you’re fortunate enough to be going, you lucky bastards; in that case, these are ones you shouldn’t miss.)
13 DAYS UNTIL THE 13 ANNUAL FRIGHT FEST! I'm very extremely stoked to see AMERICAN MARY play in the main stage at 11am on August 27th in London. I will be there in attendance with my doppelgänger, Jen, with cast members - my Mary, Katharine Isabelle, and our dearest detective, John Emmet Tracy. Be sure to come by and say 'what up.'
Posted by the fantastic April Snellings and written by the uber talented Charlotte Stear of Rue Morgue, we take a look at the horrifyingly rad lineup at the fest and drops her thoughts on what to expect with each film. By the by, being mentioned in an article by Rue Morgue is a patriotic honour here in the Great North - so I am feeling very privileged to be included in the article and for her very kind words.
American Mary
Colour me excited for this one. Those Twisted Twins, Jen and Sylvia Soska, are back with a follow-up to their hit debut Dead Hooker in a Trunk. This time ’round, their film focuses on surgical student Mary Mason (Katharine Isabelle), who, after becoming disheartened with medical school, is lured into an underground world of freakish surgeries.
American Mary has been doing very well at festivals and conventions so far, and the trailer is intriguing as hell.
Check the whole piece here. The lineup that Fright Fest is ridiculously amazing. I cannot wait to see the films. And to see you, boys and girls, in that theatre just as the lights dim and AMERICAN MARY starts.
