We Came, We Played, We Brought a Dead Hooker...

If you could see me right now you would see a definitive shit eating grin painted across my crimson lips. And there ain't no cure for it. I woke up this morning to a series of photos from last night's DEAD HOOKER IN A TRUNK premiere at Bob and Barbara's Lounge in sweet old Philly.

We had no idea the event would be such a BIG HIT, though we did have a feeling that a wicked awesome place such as Bob and Barbara's would yield no lesser results. We did a little research before the event and discovered the following of their fine establishment... a) $3.50 will get you the SPECIAL, a shot of Jim Beam and a beer, a Pabst Blue Ribbon and b) don't you dare put on Journey.

We heard a grand time was had by all. We must thank everyone who made this event possible and everyone who came out! Without further ado, here is a photographic diary of the night!! Thank you everyone for inviting our Hooker to your party!!

I know those faces. SOMEONE'S watching Dead Hooker!!

Thank you so much, Philly! Clearly, you didn't come out to fuck around. You came out to rock!!

Blood soaked best to you all!

Jen

It's Almost Time for Hooker to Hit Philly!

Fill the tank up, turn off the Journey, grab a Pabst and a shot of Jim Beam because 'Dead Hooker in a Trunk' will be hitting Bob & Barbara's Lounge this Tuesday, September 14th. Holy fuck. And there Pabst with a shot of JB (the special) is a mere $3.50! Here's what they (City Paper's Arts and Entertainment Blog) are saying --

"Bob & Barbara’s is really the only spot in the city that deserves to screen the east coast premiere of the Canadian movie Dead Hooker in a Trunk.

But deceased ladies of the night aren’t all that Greg Christie is interested in. “Mounting repertory film in Philadelphia has always been difficult,” says Christie. “I think its struggling right now in the wake of Netflix because showing the film, even if it’s on 35 mm, isn’t enough.”

The former TLA Video manager recently got back from a stint in Austin, where he was impressed by the formidable Alamo Drafthouse. “They have programming every night and it’s always sold out because it’s not just film,” says Christie, siting the ATX moviehouse’s drinks service and their penchant for activities on the side, like quote-a-longs.

So when it came to putting on his own weekly screening series at the lovable South street dive, Christie thought outside the box. “I’m trying to film events that are more interactive parties,” Christie says, “rather than just film screenings.” Christie’s solution is to bring in the Swellco & Swellco Video Circus, aka the minds behind Anti-Bestiality Educational Awareness and similar exploits, to perform burlesque once a month during his events.

For their first mutual offering on Tue., Sept. 14, Christie and Swellco will present the aforementioned Dead Hooker in a Trunk. Along with the movie screening and performance there will be a dead hooker costume contest and a performance by the one and only filthy Neil Diamond impersonator Dirty Diamond.

Other events include a screening of Cory McAbee’s sci-fi/Western/musical Stingray Sam and a film from the makers of Tokyo Gore Police and The Machine Girl, with a special presentation by Japanese burlesque group Tokyo Dolores.

“I don’t want to get pigeonholed,” Christie says about his film choices. “I want to program films that will work in a bar setting. We want to make Bob & Barbara’s a premier setting for independent and foreign film.”"

Mr. Christie you make fucking rad entertainment! Thank you for hosting the East Coast premiere for Hooker.

This is going to be fucking epic. There is a dead hooker costume contest - send us your pictures, we have gifties for you if you do (and I know there will be prizes at this screening, too!). There are prizes galore, performances by Dirty Diamond and the Dead Hooker Dancers, Louise LaTease and Keycifer, and all the cock rock your ears can handle spun by DJ Dan 5! I want to be there so bad - so I need you, girls and boys, to rock out as hard as you can and tell me what a rad time you had. I will party vicariously through you. It will be mega.

Tomorrow (September 11) is the last screening at Cinefantasy in Brazil! ¡Disfrute de su prostituta!

Dead Hooker In A Trunk hits up a Pub in Philly

I don't know if it's always sunny in Philly, but I do know that it's always wicked awesome. That's due simply to the fact that Philadelphia is home to Bob and Barabara's Lounge. What, pray tell, is this incredible place? Well, since you asked nicely...
"Bob & Barbara's, owned by Jack Prince (former partner of JJ's Grotto) maintains its position as one of Philly's most authentic and funky Jazz venues. Although an extensive menu of chili dogs and chips is now available for your dining pleasure, the accent is on the music and good times. A racially mixed bar, Bob & Barbara's is the classic organ lounge. Tenor man Nate Wiley has passed, but The Crowd Pleasers jam Sunday nights until 2:00 AM. Drinks are a little more expensive during music sets, but not enough to break you. It's downright cheap, so long as you lay off the Courvoisier. Since B&B has been "discovered" Fridays and Saturdays tend toward the familiar repertoire (Misty, Satin Doll, and lowdown blues) which Nate describes as "liquor drinkin' music". If you're looking for a more straight-ahead boppish vein, come when the art students have left, for the jam sessions"
Sundays, they host a jam session. Veterans and newcomers alike are allowed as many choruses as will please the crowd, and no more. Less experienced players are tolerated, even encouraged, but never coddled.

There is an eclectic mix of music on other nights, and even a drag show on Thursdays. A welcome oasis on an otherwise somewhat desolate block of South Street."

On Tuesday, September 14th, our beloved baby, DEAD HOOKER IN A TRUNK will be pulling up a chair, ordering itself a SPECIAL (seriously, it's only $3.50??), and spending the night with the locals. There will even be Dead Hooker dancers (yes, I want pics and videos, please and thank you) and costumes and dead hooker hilarity to be had by all. Just don't put on Journey, whatever you do....

And definitely treat yourself to a special. WHAT'S a special?! Here's a hint....

Drinking age is enforced, so don't be getting any ideas, boys and grrls....

So, get your butts to THE place to be SEPTEMBER 14th!!

And send us your pics and we'll post 'em here, maybe even send a SPECIAL GOODIE to whoever sends us the BEST pic of the night!!

XO,
Jen

What About Bob (and Barbara)?

DEAD HOOKER IN A TRUNK is coming to Bob and Barbara's in Philadelphia! It's the East Coast premiere and they're even having a dead hooker costume contest! Check it out...

Bob & Barbara’s is really the only spot in the city that deserves to screen the east coast premiere of the Canadian movie Dead Hooker in a Trunk.

For their first mutual offering on Tue., Sept. 14, Christie and Swellco will present the aforementioned Dead Hooker in a Trunk (watch the trailer above).

We wish we could be there, but we want to hear from everyone who attends! At this time, I'm unsure if actual Hookers may take part in the costume contest, though I assume when Dirty Neil Diamond starts singing, anything goes! If you're in the Philly area, definitely come by for DEAD HOOKER IN A TRUNK and stay for a drink or ten.

Stay tuned for more!
And a special thanks to Bob and Barbara's for having our Hooker at your party! ;)

Jen
