Wicked Channel review Dead Hooker In A Trunk

"This film is a must see. I had such a fun time, and felt for the characters and their situations. This is a good example of what Hollywood does not have the guts or balls, or even creative drive to come out with. Leave it to the indies to make cinema exciting again. And if you are a fan and saying you support indie cinema and talk a big game online, and have not seen this film, then you suck. This is the film you fans demanded to come out, its here so go buy it, rent it or even stay home and order it."~ James Depaolo, Wicked Channel

DEAD HOOKER IN A TRUNK has surpassed all odds. A little indie flick made during the writers strike of 2007 with a cast and crew that volunteered their time. A film that cost a mere $2,500. A film by a pair of first time filmmakers. It's now being released by IFC Midnight worldwide, is already out in the UK and Australia, and it even got a limited theatrical run. What made it possible? You guys. You sought it out, you spread the word, and you demanded to see it. What began in 2007 has finally come to this in early 2012. DEAD HOOKER IN A TRUNK, as of January 31st, will be available everywhere and we have you to thank for it.

James DePaolo, of the Wicked Channel, has been behind this film when we first started out. It's a great pleasure to have him review it now, on its long awaited release.

HERE'S HIS FULL REVIEW for DEAD HOOKER IN A TRUNK!!

And be sure to come get a DEAD HOOKER of your very own come January 31st ;)

Bloody Best!

James Knows Horror Horror-ably Well

You know that friend that told you to see PARANORMAL ACTIVITY 2 because it was so scary and so you rented it and lost two hours of your life forever? A lot can be said about a person who knows good movies and can recommend good horror to watch. James DePaolo is one of those people. He recommended THE TAINT, we loved it, and we might have missed it had we not heard such a glowing endorsement.

Now, this is James' new top fifteen list of films you should go out and see immediately. You will find the highly satiristic and entertaining indie, THE TAINT, on the list. Much to our privilege and honor - DEAD HOOKER IN A TRUNK has also made the list. He does an excellent job of breaking down each film as to why you should see it and why you would enjoy it. For a person, like me, who has grown disenchanted with studio-derived, recycled, paint by numbers horror - this list is a godsend.

Now get ready for a trip to your local independent video store (may they exist forever) or get your VOD/Netflixing fingers ready for the list: My top 15 films…you need to rush and see asap by James DePaolo courtesy of The Wicked Channel.

Enjoy your flicks, have some popcorn, and let me know what you thought!

The ConduitCast Interview with the Twisted Twins

There are very few things in this world that can get me out of bed before 8am. An earth quake, an emergency call from a loved one, a zombie apocalypse, and possibly the sound of my cat chomping something inedible of mine in my room in a clever ruse to wake me in hopes of scoring an early breakfast. Now proudly added to that list are Chris Conduit and James DePaolo. Who are these gentlemen?

Chris Conduit is the host of The Conduit Cast, a supporter of all things genre, film reviewer, interviewer, writer, and a fan of horror/genre film first and foremost. He is the author of “Zombies Ate My Homework: The Jasper Trout Adventures."

His mission? "To give back in some small way to the community that has given me so much over the years."

James DePaolo is an incredibly talented writer and reviewer. And he's also someone very special to us. Why, oh why? Because James DePaolo has believed in us and our DEAD HOOKER IN A TRUNK from the very beginning. He dubbed it "the best film of 2010". Before many even knew what DEAD HOOKER IN A TRUNK was, James called it. For that reason, and his unending support of us and our work, we will happily drag our collective asses out of bed for a little chit/chat.

Always.

Here's the interview, for your listening pleasure, boys and grrls!

...and, shucks, you didn't even have to get up early. As always, our dears, we've got you covered. Please enjoy.

And a very special blood soaked thanks to James and Chris for having us on. We chatted about AMERICAN MARY, DEAD HOOKER IN A TRUNK, censorship, the DHIAT banning in Saskatoon, North American releases for DHIAT, and lots more. Treat yourselves to a little listen and check out the archives.

Bloody Best!

I'd Like To Introduce You To A Very Special Guy...

I usually just let the interview do my talking. This one I have to say a few things. I do not know one person who deals on any website, blog or podcast who has one negative thing to say about Thomas. We are all cheerleading for him to become major, he truly deserves it. He is the only other film geek on this planet who I can have hours of conversations about the most obscure films. Readers, if you have yet to meet Thomas he is the real deal. Check him out on facebook, and he is so for the fans, because he too is a fan. Enjoy.

-James DePaolo, the Wicked Channel

I've said it before and I will say it again - the horror community is made of up of the best people on the planet. However, that grand blanket statement doesn't seem to properly express this particular gentleman who not only made a fucking wicked flick - ITALIAN ZOMBIE MOVIE - but is also one of the most genuine, down to earth, and true lovers of horror independent filmmakers around.

I am speaking, of course, of Thomas Berdinski. And to make this interview even more perfect - it is conducted by our close friend and another horror aficionado who is too awesome for words, James DePaolo of the Wicked Channel and Cinema Head Cheese.

The entire interview is fucking awesome. If there is any justice in the world, this director is going to be huge. Nay, he will be huge because he is too talented, passionate, and intelligent not to succeed. After perving on the trailers for his films, I know that I gots to get me those DVDs. There is one particular Q & A in this piece that stood out particularly -

JD: What is your personal goal, dream?

TB: Hmm, to date one or both of the Soska twins… Right after that, I want to make a movie where I can say, “Yup, that turned out exactly how I wanted it to”. I don’t care if it never makes money or finds an audience. I just would like that personal satisfaction. I feel like I get closer with every movie I make, but I’ve a very long way to go to get there. I also want to write a book about my no-budget moviemaking experience someday: From writing the script to shooting it to marketing it afterward. I think I have some good stories to tell.

( Jen and Syl Soska, I will email you that one can we help the young man get this dream to happen..I am going to get beat up..and blamed -this was all his idea…though what a good set up)

*blush*

So that happened. Now, get your clicky finger a'ready and clickity click here to the whole interview piece.

There are a lot of shitty studio horror that gets shoved down audiences' throats week after week, so the importance of ambitious and creative people bringing fresh ideas to rejuvenate the genre is more important than ever. Please read up and check out the flicks, you would be making the horror world a better place for future generations if you do.

Thomas Berdinski Reviews Dead Hooker In A Trunk

You should know Thomas Berdinski. He is the Director and Producer of “Zombie Abomination and Zombie Atrocity: The Italian Zombie Movies Parts 1 & 2” and “The Giant Rubber Monster Movie: Sascratch Versus Afrodesious”.

You can check out the trailers here.

Thomas took the time to check out and review our DEAD HOOKER IN A TRUNK. As film makers ourselves, it's very insightful to have a fellow film maker give you their thoughts on your work. So, what did he have to say? Here's a little tidbit...

'“Dead Hooker in a Trunk” is so refreshing in this indie era dominated by grueling (and boring) low-budget torture porn.' ~ Thomas Berdinski

For the full film review (SPOILER FREE), you'll just have to get on over to WickedChannel.com HERE.

Thank you so much to Thomas for sending some time with our DEAD HOOKER. Hope to have the opportunity to meet in the flesh someday soon.

Film Bizarro and Dead Hooker In A Trunk

"At this point if you haven't heard of the Soska Sister's movie "Dead Hooker in a Trunk" then you my friend are living under a rock. The Soska's leave no stone unturned with their little home-grown project: successful festival tours where the movies garners both praises and prizes, glowing reviews from various critics and media sites, the movie has managed to even catch the attention of Eli Roth." ~ Preston Carnell, FilmBizarro.com

A long time ago, we had a dream of making a film. With little more than an unconventional idea, a few incredible friends, and a won't-let-any-logical-reason-as-to-why-we-shouldn't-do-this-stand-in-our-way attitude set out to make that dream a reality.

We have come so far and have the wicked awesome horror community to thank for that. Every single person who went out of their way to see the film, everyone who's written to us, everyone who's told a friend about DEAD HOOKER IN A TRUNK, every festival that has played our film, every reviewer who's written about it, and countless others have taken our DEAD HOOKER and made it into what it is today. The film will be released in the UK on May 23rd with more official release news coming. At long last, everyone will be able to park a DEAD HOOKER IN A TRUNK in their living rooms.

It's a beautiful thing.

And speaking of gore~geous... FilmBizarro.com is spectacular. A site that embraces both independent and underground talent. Preston Carnell of the site was kind enough to take the time to watch and review the film. A special thanks to one James DePaolo for introducing us. Preston has a fantastical way with words and his review of the film is downright delectable. Not only does he have a vast understanding of horror, he has a twisted sense of humor, the kind that inspired us to make our film in the first place.

"With the title, I'm sure most folks are expecting "Dead Hooker in a Trunk" to be a comedy, and you'd be right. The movie is a successful combination of horror and pitch-black comedy that manages to get you to say, "Oh shit" one minute, and making you slap your knee from morbid hysterics the next." ~ Preston Carnell, FilmBizarro.com

A very special thanks to both Preston and FilmBizarro.com for the brilliant work that they do and for spending some intimate time with our DEAD HOOKER.

Please enjoy the FULL REVIEW HERE.

And do take a little awesome tour around the site. You'll find many a treasure.

Bloody Best!

Got Head Cheese?

We have a lot of fun talking to the wonderful James DePaolo. Here are some past moments for those of you late to the friend-ship. We had the pleasure of sitting down with James and having a great, lengthy chat with some fucking rad, unique questions. Here is a little morsel of that rad --

You both are workaholics. You do the blog, website and podcast circuit it seems by the hour. When you are not promoting you are working on American Mary or touring with Dead Hooker, you barely have down time. Do your regular jobs understand this, or do you guys quit a job and then when home get another?

S: Oh gawd, this is embarrassing. We are still waiting for HOOKER to get sold and we're still a couple of weeks away from being able to just focus on MARY, so we do have day jobs. It's a very humbling experience to be hiring all these incredible people for the team and all the excitement that comes with a career that is developing so extremely well, then put on your apron, and wait tables so you can pay all these bills we've accumulated over the last three years.

I will never forget for a moment how lucky we are to be doing this and where we came from. You get a lot of rude people when you wait tables - and it can be rough work. Be nice to your waitresses and tip them well. I got a generous tip during Christmas of sixty dollars and I almost cried because I knew it meant I would be able to pay for presents for my family.

J: I was actually working for HMV when I started this all. I liked it because I got to see check out and, of course, stock their film selections and they had a ton of cool world cinema and horror titles. I had scheduled to have our first day on DHIAT and booked the day off a month in advance. When schedule time came, it turned out they had still scheduled me. When I tried to tell them why I couldn't come in, they told me either I come in that day or I don't come back. It was shitty. I left and thought how I couldn't wait for them to carry our DVDs. I'll be sure to go check it out when it happens.

We are pretty much married to our careers. All work, very little time for play. So we make damn sure to spend our down time wisely. We work day jobs together which know about our careers and they really do try to help accommodate our schedules. I do look forward to having only the career to worry about. Multiple jobs do suck a bit. I wouldn't want it any other way, though. I think the time we put it makes a lot of difference. We make sure to respond to every email we get. the only ones we don't respond to are either "show me your tits" or "make me famous".

See? Delicious interview piece for Cinema Head Cheese. Get your fill on the full piece here. A big humble thank you to James who has been a huge supporter of us and our work who always takes the time to do cool interviews. Thank you kindly, sir!
