Get Your Own Fresh Dead Hooker and Hooker on Steroids Future Ambitions

Since the beginning of DEAD HOOKER IN A TRUNK, Jen and I have come to learn first hand that there is no such thing as overnight success. To follow your dreams, to make something that is important to you, to having that something - even a crazy GRINDHOUSE-inspired flick about a dead hooker that finds herself in a group of don't give a shit twenty-something's firebird's trunk - reach an audience around the world takes dedication, time, and focus. It also takes a horror community that loves these kinds of films the way that you do, who back you up like that buddy you can call at 3am when shit hits the fan because that's how fucking awesome they are.

Theron Neel and Planet Fury have always been that buddy to us. Supporting the flick from it's 'woah, there's some Canadian movie about a dead hooker, lol' stages to today where the film has been released this past May 23rd in the UK, courtesy of Bounty Films, and Australia, through Monster Pictures, a television premiere on the Horror Channel, multiple repeats of that showing, and then August 3rd, when IFC Midnight bought the final regions, released the film on VOD and limited theatrical screenings throughout the US, and on January 31st, 2012 - their DVD release of the flick will be upon us.

"It's been a long haul for Jen and Sylvia Soska's Dead Hooker. What began as a film school project morphed into an exploitation classic that attained near-mythic status on the festival circuit and transformed the Soskas into indie darlings along the way.

Sadly, though you've likely read about this flick, you probably haven't seen it. But, thanks to the beneficence of the folks at IFC Midnight, on January 31 you’ll finally get the opportunity to enjoy the Twisted Twins' debut feature.
"

Other than the repeated night of your life if you take this girl home, what do you get?

"Rebels Without a Budget": A 15-minute featurette following the making of Dead Hooker In A Trunk, which is a mash-up of alternate footage, B-Roll and candid moments throughout the production showing aspects of the process of making a no-budget independent film.

Director Commentary Track: Featuring Jen and Sylvia Soska, Recorded February 2011. The Twins discuss various aspects of the film and its creation set to screen specific moments.

Post-Production Commentary Track: Featuring Jen and Sylvia Soska with CJ Wallis. Recorded February 2011, this track will discuss some of the tricks and methods used along the way to side-step the time and budget limitations during production and post.

A Discussion With Carlos Gallardo: Shot in Carlos' home in Los Angeles shortly after completing his scenes, the Twins and Carlos discuss El Mariachi and the history and war stories of low-budget filmmaking.

Deleted Scenes: Several scenes that were deleted from the original version of the film due to pacing, etc.

What else do we have planned? Read the entire piece here and/or here - better read both for good measure - to get all the goods as we speak briefly about upcoming AMERICAN MARY, an actual sequel to HOOKER following in Rodriguez's DESPERADO footsteps, and all the things DEAD HOOKER. Thank you to Theron for always supporting the little guy, the little guy has been able to travel the world because of your faith and backing. Not too many dead hookers get spread around this far.. that came out wrong.. aw, fuck it... this is a huge fucking thrill and we cannot believe that this day is almost upon us!

Thank you for reading, watching, tweeting, blogging, screening, sharing, and caring, girls and boys. The horror community consists of the greatest folks on the fucking planet and you are all living proof. You can preorder this chick here (fuck yeah).

Monster Pictures Handles Dead Hooker In A Trunk Down Under!

MONSTER PICTURES; FANTASTIC PICTURES FOR PEOPLE WHO LIKE TO WATCH...

Monster Pictures is a Melbourne-based distribution / production company launching in August 2010 with Dutch director, Tom Six’s twisted biological horror, THE HUMAN CENTIPEDE.

Monster Pictures is dedicated to delivering the most energetic, unique, creative, innovative, provocative, bizarre, frightening, challenging, surreal, offbeat, absurd, twisted, demented, raunchy, cinema in the world today – the weirder, the wilder, the blacker, the sexier, the crazier, the dirtier, the funnier, the better.

Whilst Monster Pictures will leave no stone unturned in its quest to unleash the most interesting films on the planet to our audience, we are not JUST a distribution company.

From our offices in Melbourne Australia we are currently developing a slate of productions that will stay true to our promise of delivering exciting film projects, quality films that push boundaries, films that won’t easily be forgotten.

Monster Pictures is the distributor that is handling the Bounty Entertainment release of DEAD HOOKER IN A TRUNK in Australia and if you're an Australian local, you might have already heard about their pushing the envelope approach in entertainment and how fucking cool and refreshing it has been. They have got the balls to back the very provocative titles in its lineup. Provocative titles like Lucky McKee's THE WOMAN which they will be presenting the worldwide theatrical premiere of.

Fucking badass. I've been dying to see that flick. And they brought out THE HUMAN CENTIPEDE that has to be one of the most talked about indie horror in years with crazy cult status - if you don't believe me click here.

It is a fucking thrill to be associated with a company like this and we couldn't be happier with the Australian home that DEAD HOOKER IN A TRUNK has. Check the official Monster Pictures Dead Hooker Page here where you can also purchase the DVD. If you want an alternative artwork, super rad DVD and you have the region-free player to support it, hook yourself up!

A huge thank you to the team at Monster Pictures for taking such good care of our HOOKER! Careful around cops, they get weird about hookers in trunks. Check out their full lineup here! You won't be disappointed.

Do What You Love and You'll Never Work Another Day in Your Life

People have told me I suck. It happens. When we started making DEAD HOOKER IN A TRUNK with maxed out credit cards and mad ambition, people went out of their way to tell me that it would never work, we would never pull it off, and nobody would watch the flick.

That was almost four years ago, since then the film has been sold worldwide, released first in the UK and Australia by Bounty Films on May 23, 2011, who also gave us our recent television premiere on the Horror Channel, then IFC Midnight bought the remaining world rights and released the flick on VOD on August 3rd and started the flick's limited theatrical release through Canada and the US (demand it in your city - we will hook you up!) with plans to release the DVD in January 2012. If you have a region free player, you can already grab your copy from with either of Bounty's Australian or UK DVD (or both).

The film came from a fuck you to the 'film school' we attended that cut the funding from our final project and told us to 'merge with another group.' Thank God GRINDHOUSE was in theaters at that time that acted as a real film school to get us making our own flick and we never looked back. Find what inspires you to be who you want to be and do what you want to do and make it happen for yourself. And those people who said I sucked? Some of them still feel the same way, others tell me they 'always knew' I could do it.

Too many assholes out there trying to make other people's lives as shitty as theirs. When I see someone going out there, fighting for their dream, it makes me happy to see more fighters out there - making it happen. One such individual is John Ginder. Avid horror fan forever, John recently took the plunge and started turning that honest to goodness love of the genre into a writing career - and let me tell you, girls and boys, when you are doing what you were born to do, everything just fits into place. I love talking to John - we make friends over DHIAT and are now practically family. He treats everyone he meets with respect and he knows his shit.

Everyone has been telling me about how much they enjoy speaking with John and I'm so glad to have him on the scene. It was beyond humbling to see his blog - A HORROR-FYING BLOG - post this morning --

"Okay , everyone- I must thank two most amazing gals for their inspiration and encouragement to leave the safety of the "nonwritng John" to the "writing John". Two folks , sisters , to be more precise, TWINS, really inspired me to do writing,I have always felt like I sucked as a writer, all through growing up never did very well at writing essays etc, nor giving speeches! These two gals ,followed their dream, and made it happen and are living their dream, they are so humble and so appreciative of their fans and friends! I was a fan first, then become friend, now, damn it- wow- I am now a "nonblood family", I am listed as brother on their Facebook- and that makes me so happy! Why??? Because of their encouragement ,their inspiration to get out of my own safety zone and get the hell on with my dreams!"

John was going to be a fucking awesome horror writer and reviewer always and I feel very lucky to have had our story and friendship help in anyway. Clickity click here for the full lovely post. I want to thank John for supporting our flick and pimping his Hooker T like a general of the Twisted Twins Army (I'm serious, there will be dogtags soon). It's because of that support and people sharing the project that it has become what it has and we get to do this for a living. Grateful doesn't even begin to describe the feeling - thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

If you, reading this, have a dream that everyone shits on, please tell those folks to fuck themselves super hard (they probably need it) and go out and make that dream happen for yourself. If you dedicate yourself, work hard, and sacrifice to make it happen - you can't fail.

Cool Hooker Luke

There are few words that actually an put the feeling into text of having DEAD HOOKER IN A TRUNK not only released in the UK & Australia - courtesy of Bounty Films, released on VOD with a limited theatrical release in the US & Canada - courtesy of IFC Midnight, and now on television - courtesy of The Horror Channel. It's enough to keep these filmmakers feeling extremely humbled by the outpour of kindness, support, and enjoyment of the flick.

It makes our life to hear what people have to say about the project. It was a great ambition of ours to make a project that was fun to watch and completely insane - to know that we hit the mark means the world to us. The flick hit the Horror Channel this past July 29th and I was stoked to see that this lovely horror-loving gentleman took the time to check it out --

Hi, I'm Luke.
I'm 29 and live somewhere in Suffolk, UK.
I now use this channel to talk about movies.
I films from all genres and times, and just want to see the best I can find.
But... I LOVE horror and exploitation.
Please comment on videos, cause thats why I do this; to chat about film.
Thanks for watching :)

Thank you, Luke, for watching! Great reviews. What did Luke have to say about our HOOKER? --

From the bottom of our twisted black hearts, thank you for watching and reviewing. Thank you for watching the film, hearing our story, and pimping our HOOKER. This review made me smile - thank you for taking the time to watch it.

HOOKER hits the The Horror Channel again tonight with a special intro from the sinfully sensational, Emily Booth, via The Horror Booth! Please spend tonight in with our dead whore with your friends - you won't regret it.

Subtitled Online Dot Com Talks With The Twins

Canadian sisters, Jen and Sylvia Soksa are making waves in the world of indie horror. With their debut, Dead Hooker In A Trunk, only just reaching its release on DVD in the UK, they are already working on their next project, American Mary. Luckily, the Soska Sisters were able to take some time out of production to talk to subtitledonline.com…

And the wonderful Dave O Butnu of subtitledonline.com was kind enough to take some time to talk to us. It was a very cool chat as we got to speak about the newly released DEAD HOOKER IN A TRUNK (it was released in the UK and Australia this past May 23rd by Bounty Films - world release is a'coming), the issues of duality that come from being an identical twin and how that is explored in our work, and all sorts of goodies. Here is a tasty morsel --

DOB: Have there been any issues with censors around the world, now that the movie is being released? Did Dead Hooker… get banned or cut anywhere?

Sylvia: We got extremely lucky with this film in the respect that we maintained creative control over the entire project without having to fight for our content. I'm actually surprised it didn't get more backlash. The only banning happened over the title without the film being watched, so I think people don't have a problem with the content. It got an 18+ rating, but it has extreme language, violence and full frontal male nudity, so that was expected.

Jen: The film is available in its entirety and I am so happy about it. I absolutely detest censorship. I feel that not only is it bulls**t to tell someone what they can or cannot watch and remove the opportunity for them to even decide for themselves, but it breeds ignorance. Just because you don't see something doesn't mean it doesn't exist. How are we ever supposed to deal with real horror in our lives? If someone is attacked and raped, they can't just cut to the next day. They have to be there. Art imitates life. When violence and horror disappear from reality, then it would be appropriate to remove those aspects from film.

If anyone under 18 is reading this, I'm sorry we couldn't lower our rating so you could grab a copy of DHIAT or see it. I hope you still find a way and I hope it inspires you to go out and make your own films. I sincerely mean that.

Still have a literary appetite and you're hankering for more? Click here for the full interview of rad. A huge humble thank you to Dave for taking the time to talk to us and for getting the word out there about us and our work! Thank you for reading, boys and girls.

What DVD? The Dead Hooker DVD!

Last Monday, May the 23rd, 2011 - something incredible happened. Our film, DEAD HOOKER IN A TRUNK, was released in the UK and Australia by the wonderful team at Bounty Films.

The first stock at Amazon UK sold out that day - they have since restocked because Amazon is rad like that. In addition to the release, we have had the brilliant Steve Hill getting us in touch with cool folks to talk horror, hooker, and all things twisted with. One particular very lovely gentleman was Darren Jamieson of WhatDVD.net.

How did you go about raising finance for the film?

Sylvia: We didn’t. We have been huge Robert Rodriguez fans for years – not only do we love his films, we love his ten minute film schools where he explains how to independently and modestly make some very cool looking tricks. He accounted his first feature filmmaking experience in REBEL WITHOUT A CREW which followed him from donating his body to science to raise seven grand to make EL MARIACHI. It really hit home with us that you can make a good film with a humble budget and that’s what we did.

A lot of that was possible because of our team. There was a writer’s strike at the time that freed up everyone’s schedules. We were able to get the best in the business coming out, donating their time to make a great project. We were very lucky.

Jen: What we did have to pay for ended up maxing out our credit cards. We had about a few between the two of us and every time we ended up with an expense that needed to be paid for, we charged it. That was for costumes, prosthetics, equipment rentals, and food for the actors. Almost everything, including the cast and crew’s time was donated to the production. We got a team together of people who love filmmaking and are passionate about it. It was amazing to have so many talented local artists coming together to bring DEAD HOOKER IN A TRUNK to life.

At the end of it, the real expenses came from taking so much time off and not having an income to pay for basic necessities. Our parents, Agnes and Marius Soska, and our producers, MaryAnn Van Graven and Donald Charge, knew the situation we put ourselves in and gave us the money we needed to be able to finish the film in post and get it out there. It was so kind and generous of them. We’ll never forget that kindness
.

We had an amazing time talking with Darren who is a fellow filmmaker and has his own share of interesting experiences from making his own projects. Please click here to read the whole interview as we talk about how we the film actually got made, various challenges from highly ambitious concepts to very modest budgeting to bring said concepts to life. It's a very film-minded chat and if you are thinking of making your own indie (and we hope you do!) this piece will give you our take on how it went for us on this project.

I would like to thank Darren for taking the time to chat, Steve for being rad and setting everything up, and you - the one reading this - for checking out the site, our work, and for the support. You make this all possible and we really appreciate the kindness!

Australian Release Dead Hooker In A Trunk Artwork

It's a beautiful day waking up in a world where Dead Hooker In A Trunk has been released in both the UK and Australia.

For your viewing pleasure, here's what the Dead Hooker Down Under looks like. Mmm-hmmm, that's some fine ass Dead Hooker ;)

A very special thanks to Industry Works, Bounty Films, CJ Wallis, our wonderful cast and crew, everyone who's supported this demented little flick, and, of course, to all you gore~gasmic individuals who went out and grabbed yourselves a copy.

Thank you from the very bottoms of our Twisted little hearts.

Bloody Best!
Jen

HOOKER Sold Out in One Day at Amazon UK

"Holy $#!T Amazon UK just messaged me that Dead Hooker in a Trunk sold out! So I'll be getting it on the 13th! This is the first time I am ever happy to hear something is on back order. Gratulálok hölgyeim, sok szeretetet és boldogságot az Ön számára is!"

This is why I love living in a technological age. I read a tweet the morning that our film - DEAD HOOKER IN A TRUNK - sold to the fabulous folks at Bounty Films. The same folks that released the film yesterday to the United Kingdom and Australia and we couldn't be more stoked. We received the above message later that evening that the supply that Amazon UK had of the film was sold out that day.

I've received notice that there is a new supply and everyone who hasn't ordered can still get their HOOKERs, but I just wanted to take this opportunity to thank you, boys and girls, for making this film and this release such a success.

This is a testament to the horror community and what your support has made happen. We were hoping that people would want to buy the film, we never expected this huge honor of having so many units purchased on its release.

Thank you to each and every person who talked about this film, shared it with a friend, promoted it, took the time to check it out, and those who decided they wanted to take that indie flick home with them.

You guys are so fucking cool - thank you very humbly.

Dead Hooker in a Trunk Released Today in the UK and Australia!

Today is a huge day for us as Bounty Films releases DEAD HOOKER IN A TRUNK everywhere in the UK and Australia.

The DVD includes a Behind the Scenes Making of documentary, deleted scenes, directors and technical commentaries, and an interview on indie filmmaker with Carlos Gallardo.

Buy it now here and have a DEAD HOOKER IN A TRUNK of your very own!

"Do you remember the always fun classic movies, movies back when movies were cool, that involved a group of people, often friends, who are suddenly, and unwillingly, thrust into a dangerous situation, forced to either deal with what's landed on their proverbial laps, or face the consequences of their failure to act swiftly? These sort of films have always been a favorite of mine and Dead Hooker In A Trunk has brought back those kind of movies that have meant so much to me throughout my life as a fan of the cinema."-Scott Ruth, D'ment'd Cinema

There are few words to describe accurately the swelling of pride and humble gratitude that this film stirs in us. Firstly, the team who came together to make the film without ever wanting anything in return than to make a great project. There would be no film without your tireless dedication and creative drive - you gave us the best experience of our lives in the creation of this film and the film itself is proof of the immeasurable talent that exists in the Canadian film community.

“Watching Dead Hooker in a Trunk is like having the best bare backing sex of your life while hopped up on junk with a fugly prostitute in a seedy motel room on the wrong side of town.”
TWITCH Film

"Every once in awhile a film comes out of left field that is such a innovation in film making that within moments of starting it you just know that you are witnessing something important that will one day become a cult classic that other aspiring film makers will look to for inspiration. This is exactly the sort of film Dead Hooker in a Trunk is and the twisted twins Jen and Sylvia Soska are destined to become a part of the next generation of iconic horror writers and directors." - Ted Brown, Bloody Disgusting

This wouldn't be happening without the wonderful teams at Industry Works and Bounty Films who believed in this project and loved it for everything it is - complete insanity and a love letter to the grindhouse indie spirit of filmmaking. Evan, Kathryn, Hannah, Cathee, and Tom - you put faith in us, you worked your asses off to get the film out there, and now you are giving us the opportunity to continue creating with AMERICAN MARY. It never feels like work when collaborating with the professionals at Industry Works - you are our extended family and we love you. Ben Hellwig, I can't wait to meet you in person, sir. You are a fucking rockstar of awesome. Steve Hill, thank you for orchestrating the press to let people know about us and the film - you have been brilliant. Thank you to the entire team at Bounty Films who have done a remarkable job getting DEAD HOOKER IN A TRUNK out there for the public. Jen and I will never forget this day.

"Sometimes the truly creative hand us a movie whose title packs as much punch as the movie itself, luring us in and giving us not only what title promises, but more coolness to spare. Hot Tub Time Machine, Killer Klowns from Outer Space and Natural Born Killers spring to mind. In 2009 Jen and Sylvia Soska- two Vancouver film school drop-outs- wrote, produced, directed and acted in their own hometown horror-comedy, Dead Hooker in a Trunk, and the fruit of their labors is every bit one of those aforementioned pictures.

They delivered on the title, albeit without the putrefaction we so loved from the dead hooker in the mattress in Robert Rodriguez's "Misbehavers" short (from the anthology Four Rooms), and they yielded a 92-minute hodge-podge of heightened gore, deadpan gags and solid, admirably rough-and-tumble female leads with lines like, 'You think dying's gonna kill me?'"
- Bob Freville, Kotori Magazine

Last February, DEAD HOOKER IN A TRUNK had its first screening at the Ghouls on Film Festival in Birmingham, UK thanks to Nia Edwards-Behi. The UK love didn't stop there as we were invited back to the Abertoir Film Festival - thank you kindly to Gareth 'Gaz' Bailey for the honor - and then the Jennifer's Bodies Film Festival - thank you to the wonderful Jennifer Cooper who we completely adore. Even the fabulous Grimm Up North Film Festival showed a little HOOKER to their audiences. This isn't a usual story - none of this would have happened had people not banded together to support our work and the film.

This is just as much a special day for the horror community that demanded that the film get out there and be seen as it is for us. There is nothing that a group of dedicated people cannot do. You made this release happen. We promise to keep working hard to make work that is twisted and enjoyable for many years to come - each project a thank you to the people who made our greatest ambitions come true.

Please enjoy the film, let us know what you think. We are working away on the new film, AMERICAN MARY, which we can't hardly wait to share with you.

As for the rest of the world release news for DEAD HOOKER IN A TRUNK - we have something very special in store to reveal very shortly.

Thank you most kindly, girls and boys.
