Ten Women That Are Brutal As Hell

"How did I choose the ladies on this list, pulling them from the hundreds of others?
First, I wanted there to be a personal connection for myself. These are all films which I admire and have seen more than once. They are ones that I would call favorites. I wanted to eliminate the distancing effect of picking a film because it’s important on a larger scale, or to the majority of genre fans, but not necessarily important to me. When all is said and done the most significant impact a film can have is that of the impact upon an individual. A film succeeds in being most powerful in the intimacy that comes when you’re pulled into it completely.
Second, with the field narrowed I looked at films where women rose above both adversity and their pre-determined station to overcome whatever conflict was presented. I eliminated films where weak women became strong in a final moment. I looked for those films where the woman never backed down, was always strong, always a force to be reckoned with, even if she fell as a victim and was overpowered by her oppressors. Horror as a genre is one that rings truthful, more than any other genre, that good does not always triumph over evil. In spite of this truth, it should never take away from the inherent virtue in fighting for good." ~ Marc Patterson, BRUTAL AS HELL
As Women In Horror recognition month winds to an end one thing has become evident. The appreciation and celebration of women and their countless contributions to horror will not be coming to an end. The month has taken on a life of its own and, as a result, women are being appreciated and recognized more than ever. The founder of this month, Hannah Neurotica, will surely have an indestructible smile on her crimson lips.

Marc Patterson, owner and editor-in-chief of the abso~fucking~lutely brilliant site BRUTAL AS HELL, has taken this opportunity to honor TEN WOMEN IN HORROR THAT BREAK THE MOULD OF CONVENTION. This list contains some of the most badass, inspirational, take-no-shit-from-nobody women to ever grace the screen. Yes, you bet your sweet ass Ripley is on there.

As a supreme honor, both myself and Sylv are also included amongst the list of these incredible women. Not us exactly, but more accurately, BADASS and GEEK are honored. We are just blown away by this great distinction, especially taking a look at the fellow femme fatales to appear on the list. Just, wow.

Thank you so very much to Marc Patterson and BRUTAL AS HELL for this. We are speechless and that special kind of happy that Bruce Willis is in PULP FICTION when he lays eyes on that Katana.

Of course, we've given away already too many ladies to appear on the list. To see the FULL LIST and FIND OUT WHY, read on!

Obviously, I must now go watch PULP FICTION.

Bloody Best!

I Dream Of Egon

Greetings, grrls and boys and a very special greeting to all you geeks out there!

Often I am asked how close I am to the character I play in Dead Hooker In A Trunk. Am I truly a Geek? Or am I a secret Badass? I mean, who DOESN'T wanna be Badass? Well, the answer is, and yes it is a bit of a cop out, I am little bit of both. I decided to take a little break from our usual blogs and post something deliciously nonsensical and geek~gasmic. I do indeed have deep geeky roots and have, as many others, loved many great geeks of comics, video games, television, and film. Fox Mulder of X-Files, Donatello of the Ninja Turtles, and, the man I dreamed of marrying in my youth, the epidemy of geeky gorgeousness, Egon Spengler.

That's right, ladies. Drink it in. That's some sweet ass Egon for you. Hungry for more? Here are some facts you may not know about my "intended/beloved"...

1.) The character of Egon Spengler was named after Oswald Spengler and a classmate of Harold Ramis' at Senn High School named Egon Donsbach who was a Hungarian refugee. Yes, Egon is, like me, presumably of Hungarian decent.

2.) He is the creator of the Ghostbusters' equipment along with Raymond Stantz, thus making him the brains of the Ghostbusters.

3.) Egon, though scientifically adept, is socially inept and relies largely on Dr. Peter Venkman to do the talking for the group.

4.) Reportedly due to legal issues concerning character/actor likenesses, Egon's likeness was changed from a brunette to a blond sporting a pony tail. Maurice LaMarche stated that when he auditioned for the part of Egon Spengler in The Real Ghostbusters, he was asked not to do an impression of Harold Ramis, a request he ignored because impressions were one of his strengths as a performer and there was no other way he could imagine properly portraying the character other than to follow Ramis's example.

5.) He collects spores, molds, and fungus.

6.) Egon is, admittedly, a sugar junkie, his favorites being "twinkies" and "nestle crunch bars".

7.) He has been romantically linked to Janine Melnitz, in both the films and tv series.

8.) Egon Spengler has a family history of witchcraft (three ancestors, Zedekiah, Eli and Ezekiel, were wizards), of which he is not so much ashamed as strongly considers irrelevant, mainly because he sees science as relevant.

9.) He grew up in Ohio.

10.) I'd still marry him today.

Gore~geous Geek Art by Miki Hickel

I woke up this morning with a text from one of my favorite people in the known universe. My beloved sister, Hannah Neurotica. Now if you don't know Hannah from Ax Wound by now, I'm afraid there may be no hope for you. Ax Wound is the defining voice for women in horror chalk full of brilliance and blood. Go grab yourselves a few back issues and bask in the grindhouse gory glory.

Anywho (I can go on tangents that would leave Holden Caulfield's head spinning), I was instructed to check out facebook. Do not pass go or in this case do not feed my cat that is desperately attempting to win my attention, proceed directly to facebook. I logged on and was blown away, just floored, by Miki Hickel's incredible artwork of Geek from Dead Hooker In A Trunk.

It is beautiful, just take a peak up at it.

I want to humbly thank Miki for this great honor from the very bottom of my demented little heart and share its collective awesome~ness with all of you.

Blood soaked best!
