The Summer of Color 5: Week Six . . .

"Orange is the happiest color."
- Frank Sinatra

I Can Hardly Believe It!
But somehow (where has the time gone?!) we've already reached our last week of The Summer of Color. And I must say - like so many of you have already - this year's installment has been one for the books! I love seeing which hues you choose each week, love seeing all the gorgeous, drool-worthy work you've created and, on a personal note, have loved playing right along with you this year. Thank you once again for sharing your time and talents with us all!

Although It's Our Last Week:
I hope you'll still consider joining us if you haven't done so already. You can read all about the event here, join our Facebook group for more SOC fun and check out our Flickr pool to see all five years of color palettes in one place. As for the rest of social media, you can find us everywhere else using the hashtag #TheSummerofColor5.

This Week:
We'll be working on our sixth - of six - weekly color palettes. It's bright, bold and possibly the palette that best represents the colors of Summer. Again, we're double dipping here, so if you're up for the challenge, I encourage you to choose different hues for this palette than you may have used in weeks past. So, are you ready for it? Okay then, here goes! Our last palette for SOC 5 is:

1 Orange + 1 Orange + 1 Blue

And remember, what you do with the prompt is all up to you! The only stipulation being that you work with the colors provided above and here below:

How Did I Use Oranges n' Blue?
Well, I um, created a boat of sorts. It's a little different but hey, that's part of the fun, right? So, without further adieu, here's my latest YouTube video on the subject:

What About Our Last Giveaway?
Oh, it's a good one! There's a lot of my favorites in there, including a couple of the Montana paint pens (that blue is a new color in the line!) that you've seen me play with throughout the Summer.

{Two Dylusions Ink Sprays in London Blue and Pure Sunshine, three rolls of adorable washi tape in oranges and blue, two blue floral embellishments, two large Faber-Castell Big Brush Pitt artist pens in Phthalo Blue and Orange Glaze, two Montana Acrylic Paint pens in neon orange and light blue, one Poppin leather-bound notebook in a gorgeous teal, two bottles of Liquid Pearls in Pumpkin and Royal Blue, one Dr. Ph. Martin's bottle of Bombay India Ink in Orange, one (it's my last ;) decorative napkin for collage and, last but not least, several iridescent confetti stars}

And Last Week's Winner?
I've got it right here! Last week's giveaway was randomly chosen to go live with . . . .

Linda Gibbons of Just Another Volunteer!

(please note: all winners will be selected at random via a Random Number Generator.
The photos / proof of each week's winners will be on file and happily sent to anyone who would like to see them.)

The Summer of Color: Week Six . . .

"There shall be eternal Summer in the grateful heart"
- Celia Thaxter

I'm sitting on a redwood deck overlooking Big Bear Lake, CA as I write this. We arrived over the weekend for a few days of cool weather, mountain air and family time. And although there's so much to love, what I'm noticing more than anything else is the deeply saturated color around here. The blues sparkle more, the greens beg for my attention and last night's sunset seemed to actually be on fire. Okay, I know I'm a bit color-obsessed right now, but I don't care. I'm grateful for the awareness of it. And what I've come to find over our Summers together is that color, in and of itself, just makes me happy. Thank you for for joining this color quest and helping me discover this. I - and it - would not be the same without you.

As we head into our last prompt for The Summer of Color 4: Smudge, Splash & Pop, I hope you'll agree that the community and connection we've fostered has been as much fun as the creating. Your spirit and talents are an inspiration and I want to thank you from the bottom of my color-laden heart for sharing them with us here, in our Flickr pool and on our Facebook page. We have one week left to share our color creations with one another and I for one hope that this is our busiest week yet. If you've yet to join us, make this your time. After all, I've saved one of the best palettes for last. You could even say that I found inspiration from Summer itself. . . .

This Week:
We'll be working on our sixth - of six - color palettes. Your prompt will include two main colors along with a Smudge, Splash or Pop of a third. As ever, you may create anything at all, as long as it's based upon the colors of the week. So, ready for our last challenge? Here we go:

Raspberry & Tangerine
with a Smudge, Splash or Pop of Lemon

To see examples of the color Raspberry, click here.
To see examples of the color Tangerine, click here.
To see examples of the combination of the two, click here

Then What?
You know the drill. Create anything you'd like in Raspberry & Tangerine (with that Smudge, Splash or Pop or Lemon) and link it to the widget below. To qualify for the Raspberry and Tangerine drawing, please copy and paste your direct blog link or direct Pinterest, Facebook or Flickr feed (or anything else that will link ;) by this Sunday, (10:00 am Pacific Standard Time), July 20th. Only one link per person, please.

Ready? Okay then, Go!

And Our Last Giveaway?
Don't miss your chance to win these little pretties:

Two sets of Recollections alpha embellishments in the colors, a few decorative napkins for collage, three large Amsterdam Acrylic tubes (4.1 oz) in Primary Magenta, Gold Yellow and Nickel Titan Yellow, a gorgeous 6 x 6 stencil from Balzer Designs, a package of 3mm Hot Fix Swarovski Crystals, three tiny Distress Inks in (can you believe it?) Pickled Raspberry, Spiced Marmalade and Mustard Seed, a large (8 oz) jar of Satin Mod Podge and, finally, a sprinkling of loose Swarovski crystals in clear and clear iridescent.

Love it? As a matter of fact, I (for the first time this Summer ;) just created a journal page using bits of the napkins shown above. Pop over to my Instagram page to see if you can find them.

Wait. Who Won Last Week's Giveaway?
Yes, that. The randomly selected winner last week was . . .

Anita Mistry from itsamistrydesignstudio

The Summer of Color: Week Six . . .

"All in all, it was a never-to-be-forgotten Summer - one of those Summers which come seldom into any life, but leave a rich heritage of beautiful memories in their going - one of those Summers which, in a fortunate combination of delightful weather, delightful friends and delightful doing, come as near to perfection as anything can come in this world."
- L.M. Montgomery, Anne's House of Dreams

Welcome to Week Six of The Summer of Color . . .

Talk about time flying when you're having fun! I can hardly believe that we're in our last week of play together and can hardly believe that this colorful Summer Camp of ours will soon come to an end. . . . I'd like to take this opportunity to thank each and every one of you for your artful contributions to the SOC 3 and, more importantly, for your sincere and encouraging comments to one another. You're a thoughtful, kind and tremendously supportive community that I'm proud to be a part of. Thank you for your time, efforts and enthusiasm throughout the event. You have inspired me in more ways than you can imagine!

And, as we head into Week Six, please know that it's not too late to join the party! Each week stands on it's own and I'd be thrilled to have you jump in now and give it a go. I promise you'll love it.

Speaking of love, I. AM. OVERJOYED to report that as of this week, we've hit the 1,000 mark on our  Flickr pool! How cool is that?! Please keep submitting your photos to have them counted among the others and please keep the conversations going in our Facebook page and all of the other social outlets you're a part of. Remember our hash tag is #SummerofColor3 should you want to include that in your social posts as well.

Okay, On With The Show:
For this, our last week together, we'll be working with the color prompt that 15% of us (in our closest race yet) choose. We're going a bit more neutral this time with the selection of . . .

Sage & Sepia

To see examples of the color Sage, click here
To see examples of the color Sepia, click here
To see examples of the combination of the two, click here

Here We Go!
Please feel free to create anything you'd like, as long as it's based upon the colors of the week. You have until this Sunday, July 21st (10:00 am, Pacific Daylight Time) to link to the widget below and qualify for the random Sage & Sepia drawing. Only one link per person, please

And What Lovelies Are We Playing For This Week?
Well, since Sage & Sepia really scream for vintage treasures, I've included some favorites from my personal collection for your efforts. One randomly drawn person will win this mix of both old and new materials:

{1 Strathmore Drawing tablet, over a dozen sheets of vintage music (including some darling titles), several vintage time sheets, an incredible ledger page dated 1927, a set of 3 washi tapes, a set of (and I love these ;) burlap stickers, 1 bottle of Stickles glitter, 2 Tim Holtz Distress Paint dabbers in both Vintage Photo and Peeled Paint, 1 Smash Idea Pop Up, 1 vintage milk cap, 1 set of Industrial Chic charms, 1 adorable cabinet card dated 1885, 1 vintage postcard featuring two little girls, 2 beautifully rusted hardware pieces and, of course, several clear and iridescent Swarovski crystals}

The Summer of Color: Week Six!

Welcome to Week Six of The Summer of Color 2: Ice Cream Inspirations!

Can you believe that we're already on our last Flavor of the Summer? And really, what's more appropriate than "Watermelon Ice" to end our colorful play date together . . . . I can't wait to see what you do with the bold red sherbet as inspiration . . . .

Speaking of inspiration, if you haven't done so already, I would love it if you added your Summer of Color pieces to our ever-growing pool of fabulousness on Flickr. It's so exciting to see all of our work featured in one place, and with over 700 photos (and counting!) shared between this year and last, it's a place we can continue to visit time and again.

I'd also like to take a moment to thank you all for your time and dedication to this event. I'm continually impressed by your talents and creativity and am honored to be among such a beautiful group of artists. Thank you for sharing your love and enthusiasm on FlickrFacebook and here. It's been a sweet ride, all because of you!

Now, let's get this Watermelon Hop going!
As of today, you may link your artwork inspired by Watermelon Ice. To do so, simply copy and paste the direct link from your blog or Flickr page to the widget below. You will have the entire week - until Sunday July 22nd (noon, Pacific Standard Time) - to get it in. Those who link their Watermelon Ice pieces will also be in the running for this pretty prize:

{3 pages of clip art from the TJ Designs Storybook Collection, 2 Martha Stewart craft paints in red and black, a Faber-Castell Stampers Big Brush Pen in red (now that looks cool ;), a Sakura clear glitter Gelly Roll pen (from the Ice Cream Smooth collection - a personal favorite), a pack of General's Layout pencils in Black Ebony, 2 4 x 4 canvas panels, a 9 x 12 pad of cold press watercolor paper and lastly, a hefty sprinkling of Swarovski crystals in red, black, iridescent and clear.}

Ready to Link Your Watermelon?
Okay, here we go. . .

Oh! And what about our Wild n' Reckless Winner?
A lotta people wanted this one, but the Random Number Generator picked:

(Please note: Mister Linky was being ornery this week and would not let me adjust a couple of links I need to. The numbers here reflect the true count.)

Congratulations Jen! Please email me your address and I'll get your Wild n' Reckless right out.

And Now What?
Thanks for asking! Actually, next week's a big one. We'll see you here next Monday (July 23rd) for our last Summer of Color 2: Ice Cream Inspirations post where I will reveal the Watermelon Ice prize winner, my personal art banner all strung up in a row, your Summer of Color 2 Artist Badge (Yes, it's true ;) and a little something else . . . . Do you know what it is? Do you think? Okay, maybe you can guess, but, but . . . see you then . . . .

Sweet creating,
Kristin xo
