After Travis's first "mini" (a.k.a test) a bunch of other first semester students from the branch went to Calibishie.  It is another small town here.  It had been pouring rain all day but we all wanted to celebrate the first test being over so we all piled into a transport van and took off.  The drive was a ways away, and anytime we have to get on the main road to go anywhere I get sooo sick!  The road is very windy/curvy and sometimes you get crazy drivers that makes it even worst!  We had a good driver but I need to stalk up on dramamine here!  It is hard to go places because the drive is hard.  

We got there and went and ate on the top deck of the restaurant.  The food was decent but it was the company that was fun!  It was nice to spend an afternoon with our husbands on the ocean!

We go on lots of walks here in Dominica!  It is actually very fun because there is so much to see and enjoy!  On the island there is lots of color and fun paintings on walls and all over different surroundings.  I thought it would be fun to take pictures next to a few.

And when we got home we were all SWEATY and ready for a nap :)

"catch up"

Been nothin but rain and runny noses around here lately so I am going to play "catch up"!  Scarlet Rose Clyde was blessed on August 5, 2012.  It was such a special day filled with lots of family.  We had a lunch at Jeanette house afterwards and thanks to the help of wonderful family it was a success, and very yummy!  We didn't take many pictures and I have no idea why we didn't get Owen in them but here is a few of the special day!

Scarlet Rose Clyde is 6 months old today!

Time has flown by (either that, or we have become busier as parents)!  She is such a sweet addition to our family and we and Owen love her so much.  Lately she has been SUPER busy.  Whether it be finding a new toy, sitting in her bumbo, playing with her brother, crying, rolling around, playing with her piggies or just staring at her surroundings.

I can't believe she is halfway to 1.

Get your suits on!

Lately our days consist of anything to do with water!  We drink water, we walk past rivers, lots of rain and of course swimming at the beach or pool.  Surprisingly my kids don't mind doing these things daily.  Owen wasn't much for water in Utah but now that we live on water he loves it!  It wares them right out.  

The pool is on campus and is about a 10 minute walk there and then the beach is a pathway over so takes about the same time.  It is nice to be so close to so much (especially because we walk everywhere).  oh and we are all loving our new suntans :)

Park Day

We love park days around here!  The university has a great park that is covered and makes for some fun and it is good to wear out the kids.  Scarlet is becoming quite the active bebe girl and loves the park with her brother!  The other day we met up with another mom and her kids at the park and had a good time!  Owen loves his new friend Chloe!  

Although very hot and humid-and on and off rain the park is a great place to play!

Sundays:

Sundays are great in Dominica!  Our branch meets at 9 a.m for church.  We get up, get ready and make the walk, which is about 20 minutes.  If you want, you can pay for a transport to take you but then you can't haul your stroller with you (which is a necessity when walking long distances) and usually getting a transport back home is kind of a pain.  The first time we walked to church we got there, sat down ready for sacrament meeting behind the air conditioning (with one of the systems not working) literally dripping sweat!  We could not cool down!  Travis and I looked at each other almost in tears we were so hot (haha).  But the walk is nice and you get to walk in your nice church clothes and the people of Dominica admire that, and know that you are going to your church service.  As we walk we can hear other sermons preached with music and shouting, not many people are out in the morning mostly the goats, roosters, dogs and cows on the sides of the road and it is quite the experience.
We LOVE our branch!  There is about 30-40 people, majority students but a few locals as well.  The spirit is strong each week and I feel so grateful that wherever you may be the church is the same and I love that!  The church is slowly growing here in Dominica and it is so neat!  I am very grateful to be a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints!  

Food

Food is quite expensive in Dominica and you are not always guaranteed what you need :)!  There is a grocery store just around the corner called IGA.  If you found something you need one time, you probably either wont find it again, or you never know when you will find it again.  It is a foodie adventure, that's for sure.  I seriously wake up every morning wondering what I will be able to make for dinner?  Going to the store is usually a daily thing for us, and carrying the groceries home can be quite a chore with two kiddos and a stroller, but it is kind of fun having Owen help me get what we need and living literally around the corner helps a lot too!  

There are some yummy small restaurants here, but we will save that for another post!

And I have yet to go to the market for all the in season fruits and veggies.  (I have tried Guava and they are tasty, also the bananas are delicious!)
