Since I took a little unplanned blogging break I thought I should take the time to get all caught up on the themes I've missed this month.
May 2 - Youth
Another picture from my DR trip this year. I think this is one is my favourite out of the hundres of pictures I took! This group of kids I photographed in the slums of Simon Bollivar in Santo Domingo screams youth and their smiles are just wonderful.
May 9 - Impressive
There is nothing more impressive than nature itself and I'd say one of the most impressive is a male peacock! I just love the feathers they're so majestic. I came across this peacock in the courtyard of a museum we visited in Santo Domingo during this year's DR trip.
May 16 - Mystical
Yup, its another picture from this year's DR trip! This year I broke off from the main group for a few hours to check out a potential excursion for future trips. We got to check out these caves that had ancient cave drawings. So mystical and so cool!

PhotoHunt - Fix
This week's PhotoHunt theme is "Fix".
Are you getting tired of me using pictures from this year's Dominican Experience Trip for my PhotoHunts? While we were walking around the Colonial Zone in Santo Domingo, we came across this bride getting her wedding pictures done. They had stopped so she could "fix" her hair.

PhotoHunt - Ball
This week's PhotoHunt theme is "ball".
This is my girl Romy, she is a special needs kid who goes to the school we support in the Dominican Republic. She and I played catch with this football when I was at Todo los Santos on Batey Margarita this year. She's a special girl, and I count myself as lucky getting to know her in the last two years since our school has been open.

Here's yet another photo from this year's DR trip. This one was taken in the slums of Simon Bollivar in Santo Domingo. Poverty doesn't discriminate against age.

This photo is from this year's annual trip to the Dominican Republic. Baseball is the national sport of The Dominican Republic. There are fields everywhere and you can always find some kids somewhere playing ball.

PhotoHunt - Cube
This week's PhotoHunt theme is "Cube"
Once again the photos I took at the Madonna concert a few years ago came to mind when trying to find a picture for this week's theme. These cool "disco" cubes came up out of the stage and Madonna and her dancers made good use of them!

Saturday PhotoHunt - Shelter
This week's PhotoHunt theme is - Shelter
I'm very fortunate, where I live and my life circumstances have allowed me to live a great life so far. I've also been lucky to experience what the third world is really like, the last five years (this is my 6th) I've taken students to the Dominican Republic on a third world experience. For those in the third world, shelter is so much more basic than what we call shelter/home here in the first world. Though this home is very basic and pieced togehter there was something comforting to me when I saw the cat just inside the door. Which just shows no matter how basic or opulent a shelter is there are things that no matter how rich are poor you are make it a home and shows deep down we're all the same no matter how rich or poor you are.

This week's PhotoHunt theme is "Hero"
At first when I saw this week's theme I thought hmmm what picture am I going to pick to reflect this theme? So I started going through my pictures, and came across just the right pictures! Also very appropriate for this week.
This summer, Todd and I had some wonderful adventures in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia. We had two amazing days on the Cabot Trail. I don't normally take pictures of monuments, etc. but this one really struck a cord with me when I read it.
Here's the spectacular view that goes with this special monument. These photos are very appropriate at this time for Veterans Week here in Canada, followed by Remembrance Day on Tuesday. A true hero is someone who serves and stands up for what they believe in.

"They will never know the beauty of this place,
see the seasons change, enjoy natures chorus.
All we enjoy we owe to them,
men and women who lie buried in the Earth
of foreign lands and in the Seven Seas.
Dedicated to the memory of Canadians who
died overseas in the service of their country
and so preserved our heritage"

PhotoHunt Two-fer
Last week I didn't get my Photo Hunt picture up. So this week you're getting a two-fer. Last week's theme was "funny" and this week's is "barbie". Barbie was a really tricky one for me without going through like thousands of pictures.
I managed to come up with two pictures that are related. A few weeks ago a friend of mine asked me to help record her wedding day by following her around for the day to the hairdresser, the makeup artist, etc.
Sometimes when you're getting your hair done, things look pretty funny before you get to the end result!
All the primping and preening that goes with a wedding day sure must make you feel like a live Barbie doll.

Today's PhotoHunt theme is Rock
I'm going more for "Rocks" than "Rock" this week. When I saw the theme my first instinct was to go right for the pictures I took this summer during our trip to Nova Scotia, specifically the pictures I took on the Louisbourg Lighthouse trail. Its a gorgeous, rocky shoreline, and we hit it just right with the tide coming in and the waves crashing up on the rocks. I think this is one of my favourite shots from our walk, there was the Inukshuk, a tugboat pulling a barge and the moon was rising! Its a spot I want to go back to again.

This week's PhotoHunt theme is "spots"
This summer we came across this little guy with his spotted back during our two-day trip on the Cabot Trail in Nova Scotia. He was sitting on the step of the Pewter Piper, one of the shops I really wanted to stop at while we were touring the trail.

PhotoHunt - Yummy
This weeks PhotoHunt them is "Yummy"
I know the subject in this picture is going to bother some of you but its one I recently took with my new Cannon Rebel SL1 (love it!). While I was scrolling through my pictures looking for something to suit this week's theme, I thought well yeah it could suit the theme. I bet this spider was thinking "yummy" while he was wrapping up this fly for later!
