Hope Springs Eternal

One of the biggest mysteries to me right now is how Kelly*nne C*nway and her husband are still married. I know what its like to live with someone with differing political opinions, but their situation takes place on an entirely different playing field. Can you imagine being a fly on that wall at dinner time? And If ever my boss called my spouse, the father of my children, a loser? publicly? ... it’s the day I quit my job. I used to think she was pretty dumb to be willing to stand in front of the cameras and spin the lies, twist the words, contort herself to please the man she once called a whiner and unpresidential as she supported T.Cruz.   But it's evident now she's ambitious, cunning like her boss, enjoys the theatrics and her place in the WH.

As time rolls on, Tr*mp's mental state becomes more unhinged. He must be exhausted by the end of each day - throwing all those punches continuously.   I can't feel sorry for a man who lies and cheats and insults and disrespects as if it's his own form of religion.   His divide and conquer mentality within our own country is a horrible threat to our democracy, it destabilizes us all.   His allegiance to ruthless superpowers who have been trying to destroy America for ages is so alarming.  What's truly scary for me is...  his supporters don't see it , or if they see it, they don't care.   I don't understand how it can be lost on anyone... the very simplest and biggest truth ... and don't take my word for it - look to the world's history for the answer...

Never until now would I have believed that a man who wasn't even admired in his home state because he was a cheat, a con, a user,  certainly not a philanthropist, a thrice married  multiple spouse cheating  draft dodging tax evader who called his own daughter a nice piece of ass and was caught saying he just grabs women by the pussy because he can, ... would garner such a following by people who would normally be appalled at the behavior.   His total disregard for truth on the little things, let alone the big things,  the environment, animal welfare, our public lands should alarm anyone.   We only have one earth and we're trashing it -  His rollbacks  in these vital arenas are all about greed, how is this appealing at all?   There's nothing normal about this cult following, and it's destroying the fabric of our country with each vile, juvenile, false tweet he puts out.  It's disgusting.  I am so sad, mad, concerned.. for our Country.

When this shitstorm has blown through and we pick up the pieces of our democracy, sew up the rips in the fabric of our communities, our government,  our friendships, even, I hope we finally find a way to  embrace each other  for our differences, work together to heal the divides, respect each other's voices and hear the concerns, be open to the options so that we can work together to fix what's so very broken.

Am I naive?  Maybe so. But on this, the first day of Spring 2019 ....  I'll hold on to hope and continue to do what I can where I am to help mend the fabric,  make it stronger than it apparently was.  We each have that power in the little ways we are able - ... drops in the ocean with the hope that America will continue to swim,  striving for peace and prosperity and diversity and good will - and continue to be a beacon of hope for all.

In the spirit of such... I'll share with you the first tiny little sprout coming out of the seeds I've sown and placed on the window seat in the family room of This Old House...  a little bumble bee cherry tomato is the first to break through - not the mighty beefsteak. Go figure.

  1. We must hold onto hope. I keep saying this can't get any worse and then it does. And yeah -- what IS it with Kellyanne and George? It wouldn't surprise me if the next court we get to follow is K and G in "Divorce Court."(Is that still on TV?)

I'm glad you are "sprouting" -- I haven't done seed starting -- bad light and previous attempts have made me shy away from it. Maybe I should give it a try!

  3. you have The PERFECT spot for growing those beefsteaks. I agree with every word you spoke here, and as I see it, I don't think we will every come back from the division he has caused. think back to Civil War here, it divided the country in half, just like he has done, and we still deal with the after math... the ruin he is creating I fear can't be undone.

  6. Hello, I agree with everything have said. # 45 is the worst president ever, he has divided our country. I hope whoever runs against him in 2020 wins. Your plants look nice, I thinking about doing the same with some herb plants. Enjoy your day!

  8. All we can do is pray that someone takes him down in the next election. It's incredible to me that he's still in the White House! My cherry tomatoes usually pop before my big tomatoes, too, if I remember correctly - I have a lot of seeds to start this weekend, moving on to the next batch!

  9. I can help you understand the baffling support of Donald Trump. It ‘s pretty simple actually, if not Donald Trump then who? To whom do we turn when Donald Trump goes that bridge too far and calls Mr. Conway a loser? Who in the Democrat Socialist Party (DS) would fill that chasm? Bartender Barbie from the Bronx? Who in the Vichy Republican Party would be our change agent? Mitt Romney? Jeb!? Marco? You see, there isn’t anyone else. And we know it. So, when we signed on it was with the understanding that we weren’t getting a saint. We don’t need a saint. If my kids are rushed to the emergency room with life threatening injuries, I don’t give a rip what that doctor’s activities are outside the ER. I don’t care what the doctor’s family values are. Just save my kids. You of all people should understand that sentiment having shared very painful memories of your daughter’s traumatic injuries.

We manage expectations and prioritize. Emotion really plays no role in the support of Donald Trump. As a consequence of not having invested emotion into the president he can do all kinds of cringy things and we just don’t care. He was hired to do a job, he’s doing it- that’s the output we focus on. Now the fact that he executed a hostile takeover of the Republican Party is pretty sweet and I will admit, that part has been utterly delicious. Donald Trump was hired as my political assassin- to upend the political model. Just business.
And finally, I will add this, at least Donald Trump hasn’t:
Killed a woman- see Senator Ted Kennedy (DS)
Raped a woman- see President Bill Clinton (DS)
Served in a leadership role in the KKK- see Senator Robert Byrd (DS)
Worn black face or dressed in KKK regalia for a party- see VA Governor Northam (DS)
And most importantly Donald Trump neither supports nor advocates the slaughter of viable babies.

No “but what abouts” or any other protestations. Those are your biases, not mine. Our biases differ. Harsh, a bit cold? Yes and yes, but that’s the reality in this brave new world writ large since 1988. And by the way, I’m a grandmother and a competitive rower. There are no emotions in a boat, none. You work like hell to prepare, you focus, and aim for a win and in the process become very adept at recognizing that talent/instinct in others. Hope this explanation helps.

    1. No emotions in a boat, none? You sure? The desire to win is an emotion, is it not? And what about the shear joy of being out on the water?
As for Trump, I doubt he ever worked that hard for anything in his life. Upending the political model? This political assassin is a loose cannon of the lowest order and there will be unintended consequences.
A grandmother myself, I have real concerns about the health of this planet, concerns that are both rational and emotional

  10. Dear "Anonymous" - normally I delete anonymous comments like this because it's cowardly. I appreciate you putting forth your view here, though. It underscores what I already know - you don't give a fuck about things I deem very important. Truth and respect being one of them. So you hired an assasin of the Republican party - bravo - but those crooks are still there with him, cheering on the nonsense, and also and assasin of truth, because he lies daily about the stupidest stuff, as well as some of the big stuff. Bill Clinton may have been a womanizer, he was a cheat too, but he certainly was never convicted of raping a person, and if you can support Trump , you're calling the women who said he assaulted them - many women, all.. liars. As for your abortion remarks.... He was a registered democrat and had no problem with abortions and given his track record probably paid for more than a few. So your most important point? Is a joke when referring to that particular man. Right now he stands with you because he wants your vote. But that's not who he IS. Keep turning a blind eye, though. Personally? I believe people when they tell me who they are.

Keep rowing your detached, unemotional, competitive boat - I'm going to keep giving a shit about everyone, not just my needs. That boat to me has more value, regardless of it's "speed".

  11. I live in central PA and most voters here care about two issues - guns and abortion. As long as a candidate supports zero restrictions on guns and complete restriction on abortion, they are guaranteed to win.

The Trumpsters (as my hubby calls them) are so rabid in their support that the local governments have issued citations because they make their own signs, placing them in the road right of ways at the edge of their yards.

On our way home today from our cottage, we will pass at least five homemade MAGA, build the wall, or tr_mp 2020 signs. It defies logic.
