. . . to crash a garden party.  To be sure, the Vegas lights irreverence of the nonworking watch face in the Rock the Clock Necklace unsettles the petals of the other four, more demure floral pieces.  But then, what's a game of dress up without a gatecrasher?

Speaking of rock and roll, I was lucky enough to see The Killers a couple of weeks ago.  First and foremost, I'll say that they indeed "killed it" (insert groan here), playing all of their hits, culminating with "When You Were Young," to the tune of Franklin Institute-quality laser light effects and an explosion of K- and lightning bolt-shaped silver confetti.  It was certainly the concertiest concert I'd ever been to, complete with a shoulder-to-shoulder standing-room-only venue punctured by a lone overzealous dancer busting out moves so mosh-worthy and energetic that I didn't know whether to laugh or shield my face.  That's not true.  I laughed, uncontrollably, at the Saturday Night Live-esque absurdity of it all.  While shielding my face.

Bag: Kenneth Cole Reaction

Dress: Jessica Simpson, Marshalls

*If the two shots of this Rose Riot Corsage Necklace look a little bit different, then it's because they are.  To my dismay, I ran out of pink acrylic pearls halfway through making the necklace in picture number one.  I couldn't find any more in the stores, so I settled for the oversized white acrylic pearls to finish the job.  Guess what?  I ended up liking the asymmetrical, funky look better than the matchy-matchy one that I initially went for.  So, I've listed the (still perfectly pretty) pink version and look forward to sporting the "mess-up" one myself.  Let's hear it for happy accidents!

There comes a time in every blogger's tenure when she must decide whether or not to assume the voice of a pirate.  So before I sail on, Bill Murray-as-What-About-Bob?-style, with this week's silly soliloquy, I've elected to assume that voice now, as in, "Thanks for not making me walk the plank on account of me wordplay, me mateys."

With that, time to shove off (to the rest of this post).

The Jessica Simpson dress in outfit number two is va-va-voom in a down-home kind of way, not unlike Ms. Simpson herself.  Perhaps if Brandy had donned such a stunner, then her sailor would've never said, "my life, my lover, my lady, is the sea."  Then again, she probably could've suited up like a Vegas showgirl with similar results - he seemed like just that sort of cad.  Most men (or sea creatures; I'm talking to you, SpongeBob) would do anything but "sail away, sail away, sail away" from such delightfully nautical nonsense.  Take that, Looking Glass.  On second thought, don't.  Cad notwithstanding, you still beat out Enya.

Mint is everywhere this season, and I couldn't be more delighted.  I love the shade in shirts and skirts almost as much as I love the flavor in candy, as evidenced by the Junior Mint images covertly couched in the Make Mine Mint Necklace.  I've been collecting similarly cool-colored clothes and can't wait to unveil them, along with their handmade counterparts, in a future posting.

I spent my extra hour today fashioning feathered friends out of felt (try saying that five times fast). I almost used three birds in each necklace but then told myself, "Whoa! Hold it there, missy," because the two looked just dandy and would have been hampered by a third interloper. Once I saw how splendid they looked against my colorful sweaters, I knew I'd made the right decision.

As you know, I've been rephotographing many of my items against colored backdrops in an effort to improve my Etsy shop's appearance. As with any revitalization project, now that I've started I can't seem to stop!  Today I removed any items that didn't quite fit in with the overall feel of the shop. And boy were there a lot! I wasn't all that focused three years ago when I started doing this and ended up creating a hodgepodge of things and slapping them up on the Web willy-nilly. From now on I'm going to be much more discriminating. Only bright, funky accessories with a sense of humor will make the cut. Anything bland or "normal" need not apply. That seems as good a credo as any.
