One of my favorite Christmas gifts ever was the Rainbow Brite doll I got in 1986.  I was so enamored with her ROYGBIV beauty that on Christmas morning I refused to play with anything or anyone else.  There's even VHS footage of me snapping at my little sister and her Cabbage Patch baby to go away because I was otherwise engaged.  So, when I saw that Amazon had the same doll in all her original yarn hair glory, I had to get one for Charlotte.

Sure, she's eighteen months to my four years when I got the doll, and the box clearly states that it's not for children under three.  (Apparently, there's danger of tykes choking on Rainbow's sprite sidekick, Twink.)  But there's no harm in letting her look at it.  Truth be told, I'd rather keep the toy mint for a while.  I'm not ready to see Char Bar unleash her considerable fury enthusiasm and mangle poor Rainbow.

To me, Rainbow Brite symbolizes Christmas and joy and nostalgia and all of the things.  And I want to instill that in Charlotte so that she can find her own merry muse, be it Bluey or Elmo or a character that hasn't hatched yet.  Because that's what Christmas is all about.

Well, that and antagonizing your siblings.

Now that Halloween's history, I'm back in my regularly scheduled fall fits.  And it feels cozy, like eating apple pie in front of a fire.  A fire in a fireplace, that is, because there's nothing cozy about camping.  Unless you have a double deluxe, vanilla-slash-lavender-scented Porta Potty like Barbara Howard on Abbott Elementary.  Which is the sort of reference you'd expect from someone who does her stargazing via sitcoms.

Anyway, I was adventurous enough to try one new thing, namely taking my own outfit pics.  It recently dawned on me that I don't have to bug the husband every time I need a glamor shot.  Because nothing says mother of the year like interrupting your baby's breakfast to catch the best light.  So I ordered a tripod, took a bunch of bad pics, and got good enough to take some I could live with.  Spoiler alert: it isn't easy!  Especially if you take your show on the road, which I haven't had the guts to do yet.  So kudos to all of you who've been the cameraperson since day one.  I'm in awe of you.

And of anyone brave enough to bunk with bears.

Fun fashion's always in season, and fruit always brings the fun.  Why else would cartoon characters slip on banana peels, Gallagher smash watermelons, and Carmen Miranda balance fruit on her head?  (Also, for a more current, not to mention momlife reference, Cocomelon.)  So, despite the onslaught of pumpkin propaganda (I love pumpkins, but all in due time!), it's still about produce here at the Trove.

At least until I'm pelted with acorns.

There's a new Progressive commercial about vacations, maybe you've seen it.  The hook is how so few of us ever get time to recharge.  Flo jokes that this harried woman needs a vacation, and the woman responds by saying things like, oh, you mean when I'm driving to work and a song I like comes on the radio?  And Flo's like, no, a vacation, when you go away and take pictures and whatever.  And the woman says, oh, never had one.  To which Flo admits, me neither.

I can relate -- and I'm sure lots of you can too.  Especially because my version of a vacay is dressing like I'm going on one.  So I was excited to haul out my old palm-and-pineapple heels and new bathing beauties bag.  Fancy bags for everyday use, it seems, are having a moment.  Which I love because it jives with my every-fit's-a-celebration philosophy.  That's why this little piece of the pool is such a jewel to me.

And why, even when I can't get out of town, I relax and go with the Flo.

As promised, I'm back with more pairs of forgiving LC Lauren Conrad shoes.  Because a promise is a promise and comfort is queen.  At least until I tumble from my throne and skulk back to my stilettos.

Anyhoo, I'm also sporting LC threads.  Which I teamed with the Sugar Thrillz princess purse I debated buying.  Around Y2K, when princess merch became popular, I was put off by it.  But more than twenty years later, I think it's fun, especially with a preppy fit.

That said, The Golden Girls have crashed the royal court that's somehow become this post.  Because they're the best in TV and everything.

Even if they never hawked shoes.
