And turquoise.  And sky blue.  And navy.  (But never ever cornflower or Wedgwood.)  Equal parts no-nonsense and regal, these shades make for a nice jewel box of a post-summer palette.  I've always loved blue, much more so than pink.  (I know I've blogged about that before, but sometimes it just bears repeating.  I considered saying, "I've always loved the cool kiss of cobalt," "blue just blows me away," or something else silly-and-or-pompous, but thought better of sacrificing my street cred.)  The whole blue-vs.-pink thing takes me back to that last scene in "Sleeping Beauty" when Princess Aurora is dancing with the prince with the fairies hovering overhead, arguing over which color is better and changing the shade of Aurora's gown in the crossfire.  The result is an ever-changing, Technicolor dream of a dress drenched in Disney movie magic.  (So much for avoiding bombastic writing.)

Team blue fairy, this post is for you.

Some people may say that two characters are two too many to star in one ensemble (and yes, those are the feline faces of Hello Kitty surreptitiously seared into the pattern of the dress in outfit number two), but I'm not one of them.  That's why I teamed my Disney princesses collage-style necklace with a frock kitted out by kawaii's reigning fat cat.  Not wangling to rip off Walt, I've opted to keep it for my own, instead serving up fruit and JELL-O (or, to be more appropriately generic, gelatin) to the masses.  Which works out well, because Ariel has always been my favorite princess, and she's featured prominently in this trio, which also includes the more conventionally royal Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty.

Speaking of favorite (green) things, I'm also a fan of this fetchingly retro, so-nice-I-posted-it-twice coat, which I received for Christmas.  I'm told that it's what was called a channel coat back in the day, on account of its vertical seams.  I don't know about you, but I always think that fun names add an air of glamour to garments, even the hideous but cleverly coined ones, such as poodle skirts, polo shirts, leisure suits, and housecoats.  That having been said, I actually once had a polo shirt of which I was quite fond.  It was white with red, yellow, green, and blue stripes, and it was by that popular 1990s juniors brand Coolwear.  It came, unsurprisingly, from JCPenney, and was ever so slightly cropped.  I still think about that shirt.

I recently saw a commercial for the 3D re-release of Disney's The Lion King, which made me think about how that was always my least favorite Disney movie.  I know, I know; who doesn't love The Lion King?  If you've been reading this blog for awhile, then you know that I'm not exactly an animal lover.  So, why am I calling attention to such an unflattering trait?  Because remembering my lukewarm feelings about The Lion King reminded me how much I love Disney princess movies.  However un-PC it may sound, there's just something about wearing a ballgown and living in a castle that appeals to me.  Thus inspired, I did an Etsy search on Disney princesses and came up with some pretty cool stuff.  Most of it is for rocking your outfit, some of it is for rocking your party, and some of it seems just for kids.  Not that that last one should stop you from getting in on the fun.
