Seahorses don't like snow, and neither do I -- the end.  Just kidding!  Well, almost.  Because this will still be a short post.  But I'd be remiss without mentioning that it was the husband who took these pics of Sunday's snowstorm.  Also, that I felt fit to rip apart two old necklaces to make this Frankenstein of a statement piece. Howdy, Psychedelic Seahorse Necklace.

Just consider it my amulet for warding off more Old Man Winter.

No one makes a graveyard cake like Mom.

Too cool for school supplies?  Never!

How is it Halloween already?!  I don't even have anything clever to say, just this shock that the year's almost over.  Last Halloween, Char Bar had just learned to roll over, and this year I had to put the pumpkins on the mantel so she wouldn't run off with them.

So yeah, like every other parent, I'm exhausted.  So much so that I sometimes wish I could trade all my shoes for a nap.  But I'm also -- happy.  Because that's one of the things about being busy.  The little things that used to bother you seem kind of ridiculous.  Mostly because they're replaced by big things, like trying to stop your toddler from racing across the street.  But also because being in charge of a life other than your own has a way of putting things in perspective.

So happy Halloween.  I'm grateful that I get to spend even a little of mine with you.

And also that the husband snagged me some pumpkin M&Ms.

Old trinkets of the trove.

Whenever I post a new crop of fits, I search for what ties them together.  Sometimes it's a no-brainer.  Other times, my mind is as empty as a clearance rack the day after Christmas.  But I'm always determined to find a common thread (pun intended) anyway.  So I scrutinized the fits in this trio.  Sure, they're rustic and moody, befitting autumn's melancholy.  But that wasn't what I was after.  So I persevered and pondered and figured it out.  Because this hodgepodge has -- and this will get weird, but then again, when does it not? -- hints of harvest hues, namely pumpkins, plums, and pickles.  Or, if you're a stickler, pumpkins, beets, and gourds.  But I wouldn't eat a gourd, and neither should you.

Which gets us out of -- and into -- that pickle.

So, this was the first week of fall.  And a funny thing happened.  Instead of saying, it's still hot, I'll keep wearing fruits and flowers until the first frost, I reached for plaids and corduroy.  The resulting fits were even brighter than some of my summer ensembles, making me wonder, wait, do I like fall?

I was as gobsmacked as you are.

It just goes to show that you can always grow.  Even if it means finally admitting that you loved something all along.
