Yuletide Yellow: A (Mostly) Candid Christmas

Top: Xhilaration, Target; Skirt: ELLE, Kohl's; Bag: Betsey Johnson, Macy's

Marshalls

Tights: Betsey Johnson; Shoes: Katy Perry Collection

Christmas is a lot like the prom.  It starts out all perfect and sparkly, then devolves into anarchy.  Here's an up close and personal look at mine.  It was big and crazy, and by the end I felt like Charlotte looks in this last pic.  But we all had fun.  Contrary to the crying, especially Char Bar.

I hope your holidays were happy too! 🎄🎁🍬

Green seems big this season.  Emerald, jade, and evergreen are springing from racks like leaves.  Then again, I've been seeing lots of burgundy too.  So maybe it's more of a Christmas thing and not a trend.  Either way, I'm in.

I especially love when green winks at western, like in my equestrian blouse.  When I saw it in Boscov's, I was immediately transported back to the '90s.  Tween me had at least one turtleneck sporting a stable motif, and I thought it was all the rage.  So I bought the blouse.  Because it was fun and fed that nostalgia.  Even if it also brought back memories of getting made fun of for my outfits -- and for saying things like "all the rage."  It was a nice reminder that my world has grown so much since then.

And that believing in your style -- and yourself -- is the happy trail Holy Grail.

Conversation hearts are to Valentine's Day as candy canes are to Christmas.  Sugary sweet and a labor to eat, but it's not a holiday without them.  I love their rainbow pastels and their weird, chalky taste and their cheesy messages, right down to U R CUTE and TEXT ME.  So of course my closet includes shoes, bags, and bows emblazoned with these loquacious confections.

It also includes a lot of red and pink, something I noticed when I started this valentine adventure.  At first I thought, how will I wear it all?  But then I reminded myself that it isn't a race and that there's always next year.

All of those clothes will still be as fresh.

As will those leftover conversation hearts.

Despite my many gripes about fall, I can't deny that it has its perks.  And one of the best is being able to wear boots one day and sandals the next.  So it was with the rah rah spirit of a rodeo clown (and Ted Mosby) that I donned my red cowboy boots to entertain visitors (okay, my mom), my saguaro sandals to take Charlotte to the park, and the boots again to get my COVID shot.

That said, I'm already planning my flu shot fit.  Maybe I'll go with spurs to shout out western wear once again -- as well as sharp objects.
