Some girls go for the gold, but I've always been gaga for glitz.  Fun, fabulous, (and affordable!), the fake stuff is it for capping off colorful costumes.

That's all for now.  Carry on.

I like to think that the people who "put a bird on it" would take a shine to this Flights of Fancy Necklace.  For any of you thinking, "huh?," I'm talking about Fred Armisen and Carrie Brownstein, those kooky kids from IFC's "Portlandia."  I caught the episode featuring the iconic skit this past weekend, an experience that rejuvenated my love for our feathered friends.  Sure, the theme of that segment was that real-life birds aren't nearly as charming as their inanimate counterparts, a point brought home by the violent flock that all but decimates the gift shop at the skit's end.  Luckily, the bird in my bib bauble isn't angry.

Getting Through Thursday With Another Shoe Montage: Blue Sky High Heels (And a Rogue Pair of Flats)

Clockwise: Carlos Santana, Macy's; Simply Vera, Kohl's; Not Rated, DSW; Dollhouse, Marshalls; Betseyville, Macy's; Nina, DSW

Clockwise: Nine West, DSW; Madden Girl, Macy's; Diba, Burlington Coat Factory; Ami Clubwear; Rocket Dog, Marshalls; Journeys

Elvis's blue suede shoes put cool-colored kicks on the style map.  For my part, I have a pile of cobalt, navy, and sky blue cloth and plastic.  I did once have a pair of flat blue gray-blue suede-like oxfords snazzed up with tiny punched-out stars, though.  I think they were from Thom McCan.

Clutch Reconstructed

Top: Wet Seal
Jeans: Vanilla Star, Target
Shoes: Diba, Burlington Coat Factory

I'm interrupting the headpiece parade to bring you this late-breaking story about how - and this is a nail-biter - I rescued my handbag.  I discovered the poor, defenseless red patent clutch smothered by a mountain of bullying brethren in my purse closet.  Errant accessories are an unfortunate but all too common side effect of cramped living quarters, and it's the rare piece that escapes unscathed.  This clutch was no exception and bore the unsightly black smudges to prove it.  Even so, I didn't cast it into the wilds of Goodwill.  I did what any mad crafter would do, breaking out my paint and rhinestones to transform it into a one-of-a-kind accessory.  Is it perfect?  Not even close.  Some of the rhinestones nestle awkwardly in the decorative creases, and the new design doesn't lend itself to obscuring all of the smudges.  But as is the case with survivors, its flaws only make it more uniquely appealing.  At least to me.  So, I think I'll keep it.  In a super secure safe haven of a storage space, of course, as opposed to in that jungle of a purse closet.

Photo Shoot Friday

This week, the bf decided to take my pictures in front of the bathroom door instead of the front door. Maybe he thought the plain oatmeal shade made for a better backdrop than the white and midnight blue combo. Sometimes I think I should up my game and pose in a more dramatic setting, the way other bloggers do. Like at the beach or in front of a casino or in view of a cool sign or billboard. I've also thought about buying a photographer's backdrop featuring a rain forest or a candy forest or some such other fanciful scene. Then I thought I might as well paint one of my own. But quite frankly, any of these options would be kind of exhausting. Most days it's all we can do just to get the pictures taken. Besides, I think humdrum doorways make a statement all their own. Something along the lines of symbolizing stability in an ever-changing world. Or anything else cryptically and ostentatiously deep that rationalizes my laziness.

And now for the clothes. I'm calling it my week in red.
