Sunday Grooving

So things have been slow in the sweat shop these days,
I have been focusing on packing and moving and packing and moving.

I did get some time to work on my cathedral steps top
 and it's coming along nicely

I also finished my fabric crochet basket and now it holds all my yarn,
Seriously great color here.
I had to shut down production and pack up my sewing room.
Now I know it looks like alot to some, but really,
I think this is pretty good.  And it's all going in my two big bookcases, so . . .
well . . . . it will be fine.
And I don't have anyone telling me I have too much fabric!
Bonus!
Here is my empty sewing room.  Just need to move those two tables . . .
It was a great room and has served me well,
I wonder what it will be next?
A playroom?  An office?  Someone's hideaway?
I hope they enjoy it as much as I have.
Time to get to that next adventure!
I am eager to get settled in the new place.
All in good time.

on another note  . . . .

These sand bags where put out for hurricane Irene by a neighbor
who has trouble with water flooding her driveway.
They have now been moved to the side.
Barbarita commented,
"Look this is the kind of Belgium Block we get in our neighborhood!"
She cracks me up!

Hope you are having a great Sunday and are doing something fun!

A little of this and a little of that . . .

Another lazy rainy Sunday . . .
All the better to flit around the house and work on
this and that.

I am making good progress on my fabric crochet basket.
Not sure what I'll put in it, but it is certainly
wonderful to look at!
I finally finished sewing on the binding to my zig zag quilt,
another good rainy day project.
Here is the back.
I just love the polka dot binding on this one.
This lovely Kaffe delight is all for me!
And I did the BOM over at 15 minutes play.
My corners don't match very well, but I'm perfectly fine with that!

Hope you are enjoying your Sunday!

Getting back in the groove

It's been a whole week since I have been in my sewing room!
I was doing lots of other fun things this past week.

It's funny how you need to ease yourself back
into the routine of your life when you have
been playing with other distractions.

I needed to make more strips of fabric
for my basket . . . so that was a good place to start.

Then I was having trouble focusing on where I wanted to go next,
so I decided to make some fabric for the
that I need to complete.

This kind of sewing loosens you up and gets you going again.
Looking for your MOJO?
Try this. It'll jump start you.

I find that I make a bunch of smaller sections
and then piece those together with fillers.
Is that ADD? I can't stick with one thing start to finish?
I think I will call it my creative process!

* * * * * *

I also have been cleaning up the sewing room
and setting things up for a little
sewing retreat this weekend.

I have two buddies coming up from the city this weekend
for sewing, giggling, eating, maybe some wine . . .
of course some wine!
I'm sure we will get SOME sewing done,
but I know there will be lots of laughs too.

Do you sometimes need to jump start your creative juices?
What works for you?

Sewing Sunday

A very productive weekend indeed!
I dragged out these disappearing nine patch blocks I made
in March and decided to play around with them
and put it all together.

I think I'll call this quilt Gypsy.
It's wild and fun and fabrics I'm not usually drawn to, but
it was fun to try something different.
You can see how I made another D9P here.

This one is a little modified because the fabric cuts I got were a little
scant the quarter yard asked for. (UGG!)

So I pieced the leftovers to make the 5" blocks needed for the nine patch.
The result was nine patches that were really 10 or 12 patches
randomly inserted.
The result is kind of cool. The blocks are all different, some ended
up with five or six pieces instead of the four when you make the cuts.
You can't really get a good feel for this quilt in a photo,
but it came out very nicely. Hope to start quilting it next week.

The fabric crochet basket is coming along.
It's the kind of thing you have to take breaks from or your wrists
will be useless! And of course you have to keep make the strips
to continue on . . .
Couple more months it might actually hole something!
Yesterday we had our Metro Mod Meeting in NYC.
These are the blocks for our next group quilt.
You can see more pictures of the meeting here.
And finally a friend gave me this old singer sewing machine this week.
It works pretty well. I think I will clean it up
for a little girl I know who is interested in learning
how to sew. Got to keep handing down this addiction
to the next generation!
Hope you had a nice weekend!
What were you up to?

Sunday in The City

I thought it was supposed to be sunny today!
No matter, I was off to the city
for a class in fabric crochet.
It was a four hour class and we had to do ALOT of prep work
before hand to make sure we were ready to really learn something.

I am making a basket. This is as far as I got, I thought I had enough
fabric prepared to make the whole thing! hahaha.
ROOKY.
The prep work was cutting yards and yards of fabric into
2" strips and then ironing 1/2' edges inward.
Yes, the prep work wasn't fun!

This class was at the City Quilter and Judy was our teacher.

I love to take classes and be with other quilters,
it's so fun to sew in a group. It's exhilarating to learn something new!
This group was focused!
We needed to concentrate on the counting and adding . . .
But there was some fun involved too!
This is Judy's basket and her class sample,
about an hour into the class I asked her how much she wanted for it.
That was met with lots of laughter, but no price.
So on I crocheted . .

I ran out of my prepared fabric as I finished the bottom,
but I have to say I am going to iron the million more strips
I have cut and keep going.
This is a fun basket and I want one!!

While I was happily crocheting away,
who happened to peak in but the
lovely Victoria!
She was out and about shopping with friends.

I think they did some damaged, but I didn't see a thing I promise!
hehehe.

I was a good girl, just two yards of dots for binding.

On another note . . .

The Daily News yesterday was very funny.
Poking fun at the end of the world
We are all still here and things seem to be okay.
Keep sewing ladies!
