Jerry's Corner, episode 7, and Contest Results

Hello stuffies everywhere! This is Jerry's Corner. I'm your host, Jerry. Welcome to the show!

Jerry's Corner is a talk and information show where stuffies of all kinds from around the world can get answers to their questions, receive great advice, and enjoy helpful tips, all from me, your host, Jerry! In addition to our regular show today, we'll announce our   Halloween Contest!

As you can see, I am again on location for today's show. We're at Lake of the Isles in Minneapolis. My seKretaries wanted to take a nice fall walk while the weather is still nice (because it will soon be cold and snowy here), so Ben and me tagged along.

Our first qweshton today comes from our pal Little Fox who asks:

I've been thinking of leaving some travel brochures around for Central America and Europe to "hint" about an international trip. My question is do I need my own passport?
That is a great qweshton Little Fox. We do recommend having your own passport, just in case you get separated from your seKretaries. A passport can be very useful, plus you'll get some neat visa stamps of all the paces you visit. When we travel abroad, we always carry a special stuffie passport; it's blue like a seKretary's passport, but is stuffie size. Can you see our little blue passport in the photo?

So blog pals, Jerry wants you to remember one thing: leaving lots of travel brochures around the house and other hints to encourage your seKretaries to take you on vacations is a beary good thing, but don't forget that a passport is an essential item to get before your step on the airplane or boat.

Our next qweshton comes from our pal Ajdin, who asks
What is the best way to melt honey that has been put in the refrigerator and has turned solid?  Microwave?  Put the bottle in hot water?
That is a great qweston Ajdin! Honey is beary important to use bears!! I asked Ben and he suggests putting an inch of water in a pan, then put the jar in the pan, and put the pan on the stove over very low heat. Watch the jar carefully as the water heats up and the honey should turn liquid and delicious again, just perfect to spread on toast or drizzle over your oatmeal.

So blog pals, Jerry wants you to remember one thing: honey is a beary good thing....never waste it!

Now the mail section of our show [cue the We've Got Mail music!].

We received 2 postcards from our pal Hammie! First, Jerry shows a card from a great Turner exposition that Hammie visited (so lucky!). Ben is showing a card from Bremen where Hammie was visiting some friends. Thanks for the great cards Hammie!

Finally, we get to the most important part of today's show: our 2015 Halloween Contest Results! Are you ready? [cue the applause]

"Thankz to evereeOne for partizipating!" says Jerry. Here are the results:

CONTEST 1: HALLOWEEN COSTUME

First Place  goes to Sandy for his Supreme Commander of the planet Bearspaw home-made costume! This is Sandy's second costume win in a row! Although when Jerry read that the Supreme Commander wanted us to take him to our secret stash of honey, he ran out of the room; Jerry is very protective of his honey supply!

Second Place  goes to Achille for his super cute Wizard and magic broom costume complete with personalized wizard's robe! We wish Achille had real magic broom so that he could visit us!

Third Place  goes to a group of great pals: (from left-to-right) Starbucks Bear as a British Royal Guard, Daddy Miga as a Construction Worker, Baby Pooh as Mighty Thor and Berry as “Cherry” in her pretty sakura kimono. The group included a photo to show what they looked like before this put on their costumes. Looks like a great group; we bet they'll get a beary lot of Halloween candy...and Jerry and Ben offer to help it it in case they get too much, hehe.

before...

after, showing their costumes!

CONTEST 2: PUMPKIN CARVING

First Place  goes to Beanie and Tango for a beary scary "MWAHAHA" pumpkin! This is Beanie's second award in a row for pumpkin carving! Beanie is awarded a bonus point for incorporating a bad spot on the pumpkin into the design; the bad spot added more scariness by making it look as if one of the jack-o-lantern's teeth was rotted! Ooooh, soooo scary!

Second Place  goes to Sandy for his very original Bear Paw pumpkin. What a super clever idea Sandy! We may copy it for one of our pumpkins!

Pumpkin Carving for Beginners

In order to help any of their blog pals get ready for the pumpkin carving portion of the Second Annual Spooky Halloween Contest, Jerry and Ben decided to demonstrate how to carve a pumpkin.

"Furst, you find good pompkins, maK shewer they ar orunge" says Jerry. If you don't have a pumpkin patch near where you live, perhaps a local store might sell pumpkins or even large gourds that you could carve. "An you kan luk in buks and magazeens for pompkin faszes that you like" adds Ben, "and you kan chooze a funee or skaree fasze."

Next, your human companion should carefully cut a round circle in the top of the pumpkin but remember to keep the lid with the stem on it. "Then you skoop out all the pompkin guts" say Jerry, "they ar skwishee but it iz kind of fun to do."

"You kan hav a frend help you" says Ben "kauze thar are sumtimes lots of seedz and stuff to dig out. You kan dry seeds too and bak them with salt" adds Ben, "they ar beary yummy."

Ben continues, "Then you drah the fasz on with a pen and kut out the holes for the eeys and noze and mooth." But Ben is just posing with the knife for the photo above, Papa reminds Jerry and Ben that is it probably best if human companions help little bears to carve the openings with a sharp knife, especially if there is another little bear sitting in the opening of the pumpkin!

"Then whan you all dun, you put kandul inside uv pompkin and put the top bak on" adds Jerry." Ben quickly adds "then yur jack-o-lantern iz all done!" Don't forget to pose with your carved pumpkin (or jack-o-lantern) and enter your photo in our contest!
