Hola amigos, part 1

Hola blog pals, we're just back from a few days vacation in sunny Puerto Rico!

Puerto Rice is warm and sunny! The food was delicious, and everyone was so friendly and welcoming. The above photo is of us on the balcony of our hotel room! We'll talk about the hotel, pool and beach in our second post.

One of the first things we did the next morning after arriving was to visit the famous Castillo San Felipe del Morro, the old and amazing Spanish fort on the island.

Here is a close up Jerry took of the entry gate (yes, the skies were that blue).

We got to explore the ramparts and buildings, and there were great views from every spot.

Long ago, there was a moat here, but now there is just green grass. You can see the bridge that leads to the main entrance.

The walls are very tall! There are also some really neat sentry posts, or guard towers, called garitas.

This is another view of the impressive wall and a garitas.

There is also a small lighthouse at the top of the fort (we like lighthouses), but this one is a reconstruction, the original was destroyed when during the Spanish & American war when the Americans attacked the fort.

We had fun pretending we were soldiers protecting the fort!

Jerry is on guard duty (but he doesn't want to stay on duty beary long in the garitas, because he's afraid about missing snack time).

Ben is manning the big cannon just in case the sail boat in the far distance decides to try and take the fort!

Stay tuned for our next post: Old San Juan, and relaxing at the beach!
