Shell Stitch Beanie Help

I have had more than a few emails and comments regarding my free Shell Stitch Beanie pattern. People tend to struggle with the same row, therefore I assume that I wrote it confusing and it needs a bit of clarification, so this post is dedicated to answering the question about the pattern row on this hat.

Sometimes I feel I should have named this hat the Double V-Stitch Beanie.  The pattern itself looks like a V with each side doubled.  So, once you end the rounds of single crochets you begin the row of the pattern stitch.  This means chaining 3 (this is the first dc) and then making a dc into the same stitch.  This forms the first side of your "V."  You then ch1.  This is the space between the sides of the V.  Then to make the other side you make two more dcs.  You will then skip the designated spaces and then make another double V. (2dc, ch1, 2dc).

Okay, once done with the first pattern row you will slip stitch into the top of the first dc made.  You will then slip stitch into the ch1-space.  This will mean you begin to make your next V into the middle of the V of the previous row.  You will then chain 3 (this is the first dc) and then make a dc into the same stitch. This forms the first side of your "V." You then ch1. This is the space between the sides of the V. Then to make the other side you make two more dcs. You will then skip to the middle of the next V and (2dc, ch1, 2dc).

In the end the pattern looks like this:

Each line represents one dc.  Each double crochet is made into the space of the previous V.  Hopefully this helps with some of the confusion!

Giveaway and A New Style

Belle is 9 months old. I have been really good at getting her pictures taken every 3 months. I am actually quite proud of myself, because I am seriously not the type of person to be on top of things like that. I do realize, though, that as more children come I will do a worse and worse job at this. I was the youngest of four and there is barely a picture to be found! My mom was busy raising four kids, so getting my picture taken at every 3 month anniversary of my first year was not a priority. I totally get it. Nonetheless, I am taking advantage of the time I have with only one child to get her pictures taken at each milestone and to make her look as adorable as I know she is.

Obviously, I had to crochet her something :-) Something cute and flowery for her head! Also, every time she has had pictures taken she has worn a tutu. What can I say? I am obsessed. I am obsessed with my baby being naked with nothing but a tutu on and a head accessory. She is so fat and roly poly that I can't help myself. Anyway, this is the hat I made for her pictures. I LOVE IT! I don't mean to brag about my work, but I am so excited about this little piece. I used my basic shell stitch beanie pattern and then followed this pattern for the flowers. Instead of cotton thread and a tiny needle, I opted for an H and I hook and Sugar 'n' Cream yarn. I threw them together on the side of the hat and think they add a lot of character!

This picture is just my quick snapshot of the hat to show you what I made, but I will be getting the pictures of Belle in 2 weeks or so. Kate Krueger took her pictures. I went to high school with her and our husbands were roommates in college. Her work is A-M-A-Z-I-N-G. She took my maternity pictures (click here to check them out...seriously, they are so good) and I honestly could not believe the shots she got and how well the pictures turned out.

I know I am chatty tonight, but I also wanted to be sure to tell you about a giveaway I am having at Fingerprints on the Fridge tomorrow! I am giving away one free item from my Etsy shop (anything your little heart desires), AND if you go to my Etsy shop and mention the giveaway in a message to me about which item you want I will give you free shipping! So, head to this great blog and enter the giveaway and then head to my Etsy shop to purchase something adorable for your little one and take advantage of the free shipping!

Shell Stitch Beanie

I said I would post a free patttern, so here it is. This is a pattern for the shell stitch beanie in my previous post. I LOVE this beanie because it stitches up quickly and adds a great texture to the average beanie. The pattern here is for a 0-3 months size and a child size (3-10 years), but I hope to add in the other sizes when I find a moment. Please let me know if something doesn't work up right. As always, I would love to see pics of final creations! If you whip one of these out, please email me a picture!

**Many people have asked for assistance and help, and there IS a video tutorial available!  Click here!**

YES, FEEL FREE TO SELL ITEMS MADE FROM PATTERN!  Please do not sell the pattern, but you are more than willing to sell what you make.  Please give me the credit for the pattern.  Thanks!

Beanies

Anne Jansen does some great photography and has offered to take some pics of my beanies on adorable munchkins! These pics were from a recent shoot. I have to say that the baby here is what makes the hat look cute, and not the other way around! This little girl is so precious!
This is a shell stitch beanie pattern that I created myself. I am hoping to post this as a free pattern soon. It is simple, but the shell stitch adds so much texture. It is a nice twist to the basic beanie. Again the flower is from Action Hero. I have made many different colors that are detachable. I put a barrette on the back of the flower so that it is easily removed. It makes the hat more versatile!

Seriously though, this baby + Anne's photography + a cute baby beanie = one adorable photo!
