Making Rainbows

Hello All,

For today I am playing along with The Paper Players, Retro Rubber Challenge and The Library Challenge. Here is my card for today, enjoy!

A rainbow nestled in the clouds. The upper color maybe some rain. The middle clouds punched out for some texture and depth. The lower layer blue skies. The sentiment could not be better for this card.
You can see in better detail the clouds at the center of the card. I added some clouds before adding my rainbow panel then layered the clouds on the rainbow and over the others under the panel for depth and continuity.
I don't have any special rainbow dies. All you need are concentric circle dies to achieve a rainbow. The red color was the largest circle followed by a smaller circle which created the red rainbow strip. I then took the smaller of the red circle die and that became the largest for the orange die. Do this in sucession and you will get a rainbow.  I taped the back to keep all the pieces together until it was adhered to the card panel.

Lantern Waste

Hello All,

Today I am playing along with The Library Challenge. Their theme this last fortnight is one of my favorite books as a child and as an adult; The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe by C.S. Lewis. I am also entering Make My Monday which focuses on winter foliage. Here is my card for today, enjoy!

Lantern Waste is a scene in the book where a
lamppost was seeded and then sprouted out of the ground. I am going to spare you the details and send you off to a website that explains the symbolism and reason why a lamppost is randomly sitting in the middle of a forest. So click here to find out more.
First I stamped the lantern using Archival Ink by Ranger. I wanted this image to be crisp, clean, and have no doubt it is in the foreground. As in any snow shower or storm visibility can be hazy or foggy at best. Even when things are close the scene seems to be layered with a hazy film. I wanted to achieve that result with my backdrop. I stamped the large pines using Distress Ink on watercolor paper. I took the aqua pen spreading out the color. I applied white multisurface acrylic paint to the branches and lamp-post to imply snow- making sure some of the color on the tree was visible.
I used the same technique for the smaller trees behind and made sure more white paint was applied to create a foggy effect. According to the story, the lantern was consistently lit- not from their traditional oil but from the fertile ground where the post was planted.

The sentiment was die cut using leftover velvet paper I had in my stash.
It creates such warmth and texture to the card.

I read this story as a child and was just as captivated then as I was when I was an adult reading it to my daughter. The book is full of magic, an adventure that sucks you into the story. So much so, you don't want to leave. Thank goodness there are seven volumes! If you have not read The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe please take the time to read it. I promise you will not be disappointed.

Challenges Entered:
The Library Challenge: Challenge #19- The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe (Narnia)
Make My Monday Challenge: Challenge #84- Winter Foliage

Thank you so much for stopping by and do appreciate you taking time out of your busy day to spend time with me. I hope you all have a fantastic day and lots of good crafting vibes headed your way.

At the Library

Hello All,

Today I am going to the library. Well, not literally the library. I am going to be playing along with The Library Challenge. I really enjoyed this book as a child and now as an adult, I shared the story with my kiddos! So naturally, I was inspired to create a card using the cover art for a card. So, here we go, enjoy!

The ombre was created using acrylic paint and
splatters of white and dark blue watered down paint.
Above: I wanted to keep the objects and sentiment 'colorless'. Like the inspiration cover, the mermaid seems to be second from the color of the water. Left/Below: But of course, I had to something not to wild so I grabbed my metallic marker and Wink of Stella and colored our mermaid. The effect doesn't really take effect until you place it into the light. Right/Bottom: This is the mermaid not in the light. A bit of diffraction, you can see the hair is a bit colored and the Wink of Stella made the star, bikini, and tail a bit darker.

Challenges Entered:
The Library Challenge: Challenge #12- The Little Mermaid

Well, that should do it for me!! Thank you so much for stopping by and do appreciate you taking time out of your busy day to spend time with me. I hope you all have a fantastic day and lots of good crafting vibes headed your way.

Hilltops

Hello All,

For today I will be playing along with The Library Challenge. This is my first post on The Library Challenge. Well, here is my card for today, enjoy.

The sky is an iridescent green with wisps of black acrylic paint. The mountains are smudged white ink and colored pencils. the 'moon' was stamped and embossed in green. I thought the setting needed to be magical and unworldly, like The Hobbit.
This is the card out of the light.
The emphasis is now on the mountains, not the sky.
I was inspired to frame the scene because of the frame on the cover art.
Theirs is much more detailed showing their written language (if my memory serves correctly), in contrast, mine is a simple black. I liked the idea of a frame.
Here is the card in the light. I like the way the light shines on the green sky and the detail of the moon is now highlighted.

Challenges Entered:
The Library Challenge: Challenge #2- The Hobbit
"In a hole in the ground there lived a hobbit. Not a nasty, dirty, wet hole, filled with the ends of worms and an oozy smell, nor yet a dry, bare, sandy hole with nothing in it to sit down on or to eat: it was a hobbit-hole, and that means comfort." - J.R.R. Tolkien - The Hobbit I read this first in the 2nd grade. I love Tolkein.

Well, that should do it for me!! Thank you so much for stopping by and do appreciate you taking time out of your busy day to spend time with me. We will see you soon. Take care and happy stamping.
