A rural drive and such...

Hi everyone..
So glad you dropped by..
We went for a little rural drive on the weekend and thought you might like to see how we have lost most of our snow..
Spring has sprung.. sort of.. smile..

We had a couple of days and nights of roaring like wind that just devoured the snow..
Rain, too..
The rivers are full but so far no flooding..
Thank the Lord..

I am always on the look out for livestock and chickens..
I love chickens and geese and ducks...
All of the above are in the picture but you can't see the chickens which are on the other side of the fence..

And then...

We drove past these two darlings..
How I love them..
They are shedding their winter coats..

And of course ... sheep..
I keep asking for a couple but so far it hasn't happened.. smile..
Who knows, though...

A lot of huge farms around the area..
This is rural New Brunswick..

I think I will take a few pics in the city next time we go..
We only live about half an hour from one but it is a small city compared to such cities as Toronto or Montreal...
I prefer small cities...
Do you?

The old church that Terry attended growing up...

Huge piles of wood everywhere..
This is a province rich in some natural resources and wood is one of them..
A lot of us burn wood for the Winter heat...

Then we dropped by the farm for a few hours and I made a loaf of French bread..
I used the no knead recipe but replaced the water with potato water..
It gives the bread a nice texture and has Vitamin C and potassium to aid health..

Some people freeze their potato water in ice cube trays for bread recipes and it thickens gravy or you can add to soups and stews..
I also freeze carrot water and such ...

At the beginning of each week now I make this little Jewish type salad..

Chop up tomato, cucumbers, onions, green pepper and lots of herbs.. Parsley, mint and such..
Add some olive oil and lemon juice..
Add salt and pepper when serving..

We love it with omelets, in pita bread or as a wee side salad..

Or like this..

Made a nice little lunch for us with the new bread...

This picture was taken today when we dropped by to see a couple of my young cousins who have moved to our area..

Lovely out but a bit cold..

Thank you so much for visiting here..
So glad to have you and I look forward to hearing from you, too..

This post I will try to respond to your comments and see how it goes..
OK?

God bless you sweet ladies..

Winter days and Winter nights..

Good Evening dear hearts..
Hope you are having a great week..

We are having a January thaw here in New Brunswick which is lovely, although it has caused a bit of flooding in the area..

Otherwise everything is good here on the home front..
We are just doing Winter things like baking bread, making soups, cleaning the freezer and cold room and such..
Then we have a nice supper and enjoy the long evenings..

I go to bed earlier in the Winter and read for an hour or so before I go to sleep..
Do you read before snoozing off..

Something woke me up in the middle of the night..
As I lay there I heard someone walking under our open window..
I could tell that it was something bigger then a cat so I jabbed Terry in the ribs and whispered that there was something outside..
It took him a minute to wake up but then he said it was just deer..
How could he know that...
I heard it again and gave him another jab..
I guess he decided he may as well get up and look ..
The moon was bright and he could see 2 deer plainly..
He said one of the deer had a bad leg and it looked like it might have been broken..
I expect all the ice on Saturday probably caused lots of injuries in the deer population.
The poor things..
We could see lots of tracks around the apple trees this morning..
At least they found something to eat..
I wonder if they will come back tonight.. smile..
I have been informed not to wake up Mr. Henry again as it took him sometime to get back to sleep..
He said my shivering and shaking kept him awake..
Oh brother... LOL..

I am preparing for our Keepers of the Home meeting which will be held on Saturday morning at 9 am..
If you live near Salisbury and would like to join us we would love to have you..
Just let me know by email or twitter..

houseofhenry@hotmail.com
 or
HERE  which is my twitter account..

That is all for tonight so please keep warm and safe..
I hope I am not boring you and you all come back.. OK...
I look forward to hearing from you .

God bless and keep you..
Hugs..

Just doing some daily chore like things ..
Making bread, cleaning my pantry and doing a bit of sewing..

There was a sweet letter in the mail from some little friends in Wisconsin..
I think this was part of their homework.. smile..

A week night ramble...

Hi everyone..
Just dropped by for a moment to say hello..
Our five grandsons are visiting so we have been busy..
It has been raining too but they don't mind.  It is so great when they love this old house with all it's nooks and crannies and are just content to be here..
They are either reading, watching discovery channel or playing games.. Then they take turns giving Sammi a run.. The poor old dog is snoozing his head off right now... The boys told him that he sure needed some exercise and I'm thinking he probably got it.. grin..

Last night we all went out for supper..
There is a lovely Mexican place here and I had told them we would go this Summer... It was wonderful ... We ate on the deck and they had a great time with the waitress and then the chef himself came out to talk to the boys.. smile.. They loved that.. Actually, the owners are Americans who are from Colorado and Texas and live here for 5 or 6 months and so the Mexican is pretty authentic..
Grandpa ordered a big batch of nachos for an appetizer and the boys said they were the best they had ever tasted...
This was my salad..
Pretty, eh?  And very good..
It is just greens, dried cranberries, toasted walnuts and some lovely flower petals..
And on a gorgeous plate..

This is the kitchen floor... grin..
Today, they  mostly stayed in until after we had Supper.
BBQ chicken breasts, new potatoes and carrots, two kinds of cukes.. one with vinegar and one with a creamy dressing..
And of course we had to have a

Cesar Salad.. Not very fancy..
They always get a kick out of the napkins..
I am a napkin junkie.. grin..
I love cloth ones but we don't have laundry facilities here so we use paper all summer.. These had an H for Henry on them..
At lunch they had one hundred dollar bill ones.. grin..
Breakfast consisted of 13 eggs and a loaf of bread and a jug of juice.. Terry and I laughed over that for about five minutes..
That would take us a week... grin.. We just love feeding them..
Three of them had french toast , one had a cheese omelet and the other one had simply scrambled and toast..

Anyway, tonight I decided I had better make some bread.. So I baked 2 loaves of my no knead bread..

We were having so much fun that I forgot to take it out..
The boys said this was Gram's burnt offering..
Aren't they adorable?
Oh well I am sure their french toast will be fine..

Grandpa took them for a big hike way down the beach and discovered a hidden cove that they liked..
Then when they came home they had banana and Oreo sundaes..

Now they are all ready for bed but land knows when sleep will actually arrive.. grin..
They sound pretty awake up there.. smile..
I will get some, though.. Please, Lord...smile..

Still getting ready for open house .. Labour Day Weekend..
I made this little journal... I kind of like them and hope to have several in time for my sale..
Just used a glue stick on a dollar store notebook..
Old papers, wrapping, napkins and old pics copied off the computer..

Anyway...
Sorry about the post.. I am half temped to delete it but hopefully you are all bored and need something to read.. grin.
.
Have a wonderful week and God bless and keep you all..
Thanks for your visits and comments..
Love them...
