Ghostvolume x Trust One - High Concentrate (2025)

High Concentrate is a nice dose of instrumental hip-hop (with a MC Nuse Tyrant featuring on one track) from producers Ghostvolume and Trust One, all being regulars of the Californian M25 label. The mood of the album often evoke old-school occult/horrorcore boom-bap but with also a smoother somewhat trip-hop feel as well that reminds DJ Shadow (with also the jungle loops and smart sampling). Highly recommended!

Luke Sick & Wolfagram - Garshas (2023)

Garshas is the second album from the duo Luke Sick (Californian MC) and Wolfagram (producer from Toronto), and this time again the collaboration works wonder. Both are experts in their domains and the album reminds the best of old school hip-hop, in a boom-bap vein, often with a dark feel, not very far from stuff like Mobb Deep, Gravediggaz or MF Doom. Like the first album it is released by Iron Lungs recods. Real recognize real as they say...

Illinformeds - Ilin For Meds (2023)

Ilin For Meds is the second album from Ilinformeds (I think) and is a nice piece of UK hip-hop. But don't expect modern grime or something like that, it sounds like US vintage boom-bap / horrorcore from the nineties (Gravediggaz especially comes to mind). Except for the British accent and flow and the ragga guest vocalists. Production as well as Mcing are high quality. Highly recommended if you're into old school hip-hop. And when old school is as good, old school is eternal.

Backxwash - I LIE HERE BURIED WITH MY RINGS AND MY DRESSES (2021)

On I LIE HERE BURIED WITH MY RINGS AND MY DRESSES (a good album, but I hate this all caps thing!) there are a few screams and a bit of trap, but this is more classic horrorcore with noise elements than trap metal. But any way you describe it, what matters is that it's excellent dark underground hip/hop from Backxwash, modern sounding but rooted in the old school.

Dr. Octagon - Moosebumps: An Exploration Into Modern Day Horripilation (2018)

Moosebumps: An Exploration Into Modern Day Horripilation released in 2018 is the real return of rapper Kool Keith as Dr. Octagon. The album called in 2006 "The Return of Dr. Octagon" was a good album but, not produced by Dan The Automator, less dark and more funky, it did not sound like a genuine Dr. Octagon album.  This time we can again listen to the unique mix of old school, abstract and horrorcore (but always keeping a twisted fun) hip hop. And Kool Keith as an MC is as talented and usual. It's arguably as good as the first album "Dr. Octagonecologyst" was. Cool stuff.

Sadistik - Delirium (EP 2020)

Sadistik is an underground MC with a unusual style, usually with very atmospheric and melancholic productions, and with a good, often quite fast, flow and smarter than usual lyrics. His new EP Delirium, while grounded in his usual sound has a more horrorcore and trap flavour that suits him well and produce an excellent result. We could say Delirium evokes a kind of mix of Sole and $uicideboy$ while staying completely Sadistik.
Addictive stuff.

Luke Sick and Wolfagram - Yegg War (2020)

Iron Lung records is more known for his hardcore related releases, but this time they release a hip-hop tape. Luke Sick is the MC and Wolfagram the beatmaker and what they do on Yegg War is boom bap hip-hop with a gangsta/horrorcore atmosphere. I don't know what they have done before, but this is really good. Recommended stuff.
