Cold Case, released early in 2020 is the return of the kings of repetitive noise rock with trumpet and sordid spoken vocals. And it's a kind of return to the basics of Brainbombs, exit the somewhat psychedelic experimentations of Souvenirs and (to a lesser extent) Inferno, Brainbombs are back harder, more straightforward, bleaker and even more miserable. The result is maybe less memorable than Souvenirs, but sounds maybe more cohesive and consistent than Inferno. For sure, it's a worthy addition to their very special discography.
This is where I share my passion for music and support the bands I like. Expect intense, passionate, and radical stuff from this blog.

Brainbombs - Inferno (2017)
Inferno is the new Brainbombs album and it sounds quite similar to their previous one, Souvenirs. And, honestly, since Souvenirs was so good and this one very good as well this is not a problem. Better another excellent similar album than a disappointing change... On this one their noise rock also favour dark and psychedelic (think bad trip, not flower power at all...) atmosphere more than direct aggression, they found again lots of memorable riffs, and of course they kept the use of trumpet (think more Miles Davis than clarion call fortunately), coupled with their usual monotonous nearly spoken word vocals with super bleak lyrics. Nothing new but another excellent Brainbombs album that I will listen to on a regular basis (as usual with Brainbombs it gets better after a few listen as the basis of the songs are more familiar and the hypnotic repetitive element works better while you keep on discovering new subtilities).

Brainbombs - Souvenirs (2016)
Yes Brainbombs are back with another album called Souvenirs, the seventh (if I'm not msitaken) in thirty years. Of course you'll find again the same formula, but since they're the only one to play it this is ok. And some songs on Souvenirs will probably stay among their best ones (I think of Darker shade of pain especially). So you'll have some noise rock with some Stoogian / Hendrixian riffing in repetitive mode (usually one riff each song, but those riffs are great) and with a bleak atmosphere. The vocals is still a guy with a swedish accent (they are swedish) telling some horrible things. But nevermind. And there's their usual moaning trumpet, really a great addition to their sound. If you like Brainbombs you'll like this one two, if you don't know them this one will be a good start. Don't fail to check it, really good stuff.
