Here are my favourite metal releases in 2021 (happens to be mostly death metal and hardcore and a bit of sludge this time). Alphabetical order. Click on the name to go to the review.

Antediluvian - The Divine Punishment (2021)

On their new album The Divine Punishment,  Antediluvian went one step further into free form/avant-garde territory, with even some psychedelic elements at times, while keeping their cavernous sound and death metal elements, blast beats, growls, etc. Not every moment is successful, but you don't try and experiment without taking some risks, and overall this is an interesting and good album. Recommended stuff.

Antediluvian-λόγος (2013)

Through the cervix of Hawaah, Antediluvian's previous full lenght was one of the best death metal record released in 2011. their split with Adversarial was also of high quality so expectaions were high for their new album called λόγος (its in greek but I dont know what does it means..). The good thing is that the canadians didn't rest on their laurels and made their music evolve. it's now even more dissonant and creepy, a bit like a death metal Blut aus nord, more loose, atmospheric and sometimes a bit doomy. the writing of songs is a bit lost on the way but it's interesting. maybe Through the cervix of Hawaah was better but maybe this one will work as a necessery transition album and if they manage to find a songwriting more focused while keeping the weird disturbing and almost "free" vibe they created in λόγος they could give birth to a new terrific kind of extreme music. one way or another their future stuff should be an interesting listen.

Antediluvian / Adversarial split

Antediluian released in 2011 one of the best death metal record of the year (called "Through the cervix of Hawwah"), so I'm very pleased to see that they are releasing something new. And even more pleased (but not surprised) that this released is also really good. 

the split is three song for each band.

Adversarial, also coming from Canada plays in a similar vein and is also really good, cool discovery for me. It's old school raw and dirty death metal with a kind of dark occult atmosphere (it's brutal but I'd say the focus is more on creating a strange morbid atmosphere). 

Antediluvian music goes in a similar direction but is maybe more complex, weird and dissonant. If you liked their previous record you won't be disapointed.

A few slabs of Old school Death metal!
