Chepang - Swatta (2023)

Chepang fourth album, Swatta, see them going even further the innovative and technical grind road (reminding a bit Discordance axis / Gridlink) and it's an awesome album, and probably will be the most memorable (possibly also best) grind album of the year. They kept the chaotic sax element on some songs, but also wrote some more melodic and longer ones, invited plenty of guests on some others, and there's also a part experimenting AI songwriting. Fifty minutes of crazy and full of surprises grind. Would take me pages to properly review this album... I'll just sum it up in one word : WOW!

Chepang - Chatta (2020)

Chatta is Chepang's third album, still with Nerve Altar, and they managed again to evolve while keeping the very high quality level. Chatta is a very dynamic album, with catchy and straight to the point songs, but also because of the diversity introduced by sax playing and some guitar soloing on some tracks, and generally by a songwriting that doesn't care about following some fixed formulas. The last track reminds Painkiller, with some Nepalese percussions, and then, surprise, comes a few remixes, drum & bass and breakcore style. I prefer the "normal" grind part of the album, but this remixed part is ok. Why not?

Chepang - Dadhelo (2017)

Chepang impressed last year wih their first album, and now, with Dadhelo, on Nerve Altar again, they prove they're not one of those band who cannot equal their first release. Their ferocious modern grind is still of a very high quality and really effective, with a technical twist that put them often closer to Maruta than to Napalm Death, and some bits of chaotic noise hardcore for good measure. Short and condensed tracks with a high impact and enough changes to keep you listening and coming back to it. serious stuff...

Chepang - Lathi Charge (2016)

Chepang is a newcomer on the grind scene, they are New Yorkers from Nepal and Lathi Charge is their first album (10 minutes of music but this is grindcore so we could say it's an album isn't it?). And it's a very good one. They include elements of old school grind but overall they are on the modern side of grind, with technical riffing a bit like Maruta, and they also have some Suffocation style death metal elements. This mix makes an original and fresh sounding result. Among the more interesting recent grind releases, and a new band I will follow with interest.
