Creativity Venture #1

Good Morning crafty peeps.
I am back today with something a little different than my usual stuff.
I promised myself that 2013 was going to be my year for making fabric art as I have a ton of doilies i've been hoarding, but i've been a bit lax {ok scared} in actually getting started, So when I was given my first 'personal' challenge from an online art group i'm part of called "Creativity Venture" I was forced to make a start.
I don't mean that in a bad way, I really needed the push and was so glad as I had tons of fun with the 2 projects I made.
My challenge was to make 2 fabric cuffs inspired by Pg 57 of the wonderful book
Layered, Tattered & Stitched by Ruth Rae.

The one above was created with felt, vintage doilies, junk jewellery and some stamped cotton.
***
The one below was an old denim dungaree strap, a mix of several cut up vintage doilies and some coloured lace.

I like the denim one so much so that i'm keeping it but the other one I think i'll pop in my etsy store some time next week. Having no job is really starting to suck, so all the pennies I can make ATM is a big help!
{now in my Etsy HERE} Think I might be making a few more for the etsy when time permits.
Thanks for taking the time to come visit me, I really appreciate you stopping by x
Till next time...

I 'sew' love to craft!

It's been another of those weeks where I have really wanted to craft but the mojo just hasn't been cooperating!
I wasted all of Wednesday, and then Thursday was spent getting more and more frustrated with myself for not getting anything made!
Then right when I was about to give up for the night, yep you guessed it, my mojo kicked back in at full steam ahead and I managed to complete what I think is a pretty cool bit of art
{well it is too me, i'm well chuffed with it}.
And now I can finally share that project with you today over on
the Artistic Stamper team blog
but here is a little peeky to wet your whistle
Please hop over and let me know what you think of it!

This project must of kick started the old mojo a little as I also managed 8 crimbo cards on Friday, all be it not very technical ones, but cards non the less which I will also share at some point in the near future.
So until then..

Oh Sew Good!

Over @ Tuesday Throwdown their theme is 'Anything but a card'
And this project definitely fits the bill..
I altered a plain paper mache collage box, Into my own mini configuration piece.
I used a textured paste on the frame, then painted over it in white and accented with fancy metal corners and old vintage buttons,
The inside was covered with old book pages and old dress pattern paper
I embellished with some mini 'rolls' of fabric, chipboard props and a friendly plastic mannequin.
This has to be the first project i've done in a long while that has absolutely no stamping on it!!!
Have a great week!

Oh Sew Good

Just sharing a card i actually made last month, but forgot to take a snap b4 i sent it to it's new home..They kindly took a snap for me and then i totally forgot to blog it!!
I first stamped the bottom of my base card using 2 different lace stamps, unfortuntaly i used the wrong type of ink and the lovely detail blured but i knida liked how it went a bit distressed.
I made a couple of inky backgrounds with distress inks, a mini mister filled with water and a non stick craft sheet, You know the old ink, spritz, swish, dab, blotch, spritz some more tecnique!
I then stamped over these using stamps from the Dressmaking No.1, and Ephemera 1 plates available from The Artistic Stamper.
I stamped out the sewing machine onto photo paper to give a nice shine, then stuck that to thick card and cut it out, i wrapped real cotton round the bobbin bit and threaded it through a couple of holes i made to make it look more realistic, the pic doesn't do it justice, it was so darn cute.
I finished off with a couple of real pins and strip of ribbon. I used the mini scrabble tile stamps to produce the wording.
This card fits in with this weeks Crafty Creations Challenge which is 'Distressing' {i know its not the norm paper torn kinda distress but i think it looks pretty shabby so i hope it counts lol}

Shabby Chic....

....and oh so pretty!
Morning peeps, The birds are tweeting and the sun is out and i'm not working woo hoo.
Perfect excuse to have a play and enter this weeks Lots To Do challenge
This week they want you to 'Use a Machine'
After being totally inspired by some of the wonderful blogs i visited on the OWOH Magic carpet i fell in love with all the gorgeous shabby chic fabric samplers i had seen and just had to try it out for myself.
My efforts were a little more reserved though, as i'm not totally comfortable with fabric working yet, so figured i'd start slow and i used a canvas as my base.
If you've not guessed by now, the 'machine' i used was my Sewing Machine, this is also something i'm not quite comfortable using lol but the piece came out ok in the end.
I used a small collection of fabrics and a lrg lace doillie, I frayed the edges on one piece of fabric and that gave me the loose fibres that created the birds nest.
I used the beautiful 'Lotus' stamp from Stampington & Company onto some glossy cardstock.
I used my machine to sew several of the layers together, and to also give a nice finishing detail.
I stamped several outline hearts from the Roses are Red plate by The Artistic Stamper onto some old book pages and cut out and distressed um a bit with vintage photo then it was just a case of adding a few buttons and feathers and voila. Jobs a goodun.
Definatly not my usual style but i kinda like it and can see more being attempted!
This piece also fits in with a few other challenges
Thanks for dropping by, I'm off now to lose myself in ink, Ta Ra

Sid's Fabric brooch swap!

Over at UK Stamper i'm taking part in Sid's fabric brooch swap.
We all had to gather 6 4x4 squares to swap, and then with what we received back we had to make a brooch... now to be honest i did struggle with this and didn't think i'd end up joining in as my mind was a blank... but luck had it and only a week b4 deadline a light bulb appeared above my head.. so i got to making straight away...
and this is what i created...

All i did was to make a cardboard body, and i sewed a strip of each fabric together to make up a mini dress, i wrapped it round the body shape and glued in place, backing it with a mirrored image piece of card to hide all the lose ends and for somewhere to attach to the clip. I left the prettiest fabric as the skirt..quite simple really but i think it looks cool, although a somewhat larger brooch! {think it was about 2"x 4" when finished, and that's not including the skirt train}

***

Not sure if its something i would wear but Mannie got quite attached..

I eventually managed to prize it away and get it posted to Sid :O)
I hope whoever gets it likes what i've done xxx
