Movers on a farm

                                                                        MOO-VERS

On a farm, cows are not pets in any way shape or form. Oh sure, when they are calves, they are sweet, fun to stroke. But just you wait, things change.

This poem is from "On the Bright Side" Bright side, good thoughts.

All I ever needed to know I learned from a cow.

If it’s good, milk it for all its worth
Successful people are moo-vers and shakers
Don’t just be one of the herd.
The cream always rises to the top
Don’t stoop to a barnyard mentality
Don’t be bossy
It’s better to have milked and churned than to have never milked at all.
If you need to get somewhere, hoof it.
Some days can e udder frustration
If you’re feeling low, moo yourself a little song
Chew your food 50 times before swallowing.
Don’t let others corral you.
Munch hay while the sun shines.
He who lives with the herd learns to watch his step
Following your heart will always steer you in the right direction.
Party till the cows come home!
Live for-heifer young
Here a moo, there a moo, everywhere is moo moo

Jackson Laux: tractor wizard; farmers of all ages love to meet him and talk tractors.

There are so many tractor and jazz videos. Who knew? Cows love jazz.

Being a farm girl gives me a different perspective than most  bloggers. While other teenage farm girls had activities outside the farm work.  I think they had color TVs and A/C.

  1. My daughter's father in law had a much smaller herd, maybe only a half dozen by the time I met him, mostly beef cattle that became roasts and steaks and hamburger over time.

    1. We had milk cows, who gave us calves for the freezer. We did have hundreds of hogs. Mom could cook anything.

    1. Going to the country and/or state fairs gave me an appreciation of the work farmers do.

  3. Farm life is definitely different than living in town. I know. I have done both. The animals are usually a plus. These days of modern conveniences is wonderful. But I could (I said could not want to) but I refuse to give up my indoor toilet.

  4. I love cows, all cows, have never worked with them or lived on a farm, so no idea what the life entails. I read all the cow quotes, some of them are really good ones to use. I did not have AC/color TV until I was 40 and moved to Florida and married Bob. He had a house with two window units for AC and a 19 inch color tv. woo hoo....

    1. Cows are mellow for the most part. A/C was a gift to sanity, and TV kept us all busy.

  6. Farming life will grow you up really fast. One college friend was from a farm where they grew crops, had chickens and would raise one calf each year for their meat, bought from a herd up the road. The one they had that year was named Hamburger, the one the year before, Pot Roast. They weren't sentimental with them at all.

    1. No, having livestock doesn't have a name status.

  8. My in-laws raised a cow for meat and the first time I met them and had dinner with them they asked me how I like "Arby"? They went on to raise buffalo but didn't name them!
