The Sadies @ Bluebird Theater, Denver CO, 2003-11-18

Was bummed to hear the news recently that Dallas Good of the Sadies passed away at the young age of 48.  Condolences to his friends and family.

I believe that this 2003 Bluebird show was the first time I was exposed to their music.  I've been a fan ever since.  I recalled that I hadn't shared my recording of that night before so I dug the MD master out of the archive and transferred off it so I could get it posted.

Lost to love about the Sadies and this show. Dallas thanks the crowd before and after every song.  He says the name of the song they are about to play almost every time.  I love that.  He also mentions a few times that if you would like to support the band go see their merch guy Baby Desturbo.  Not sure on the spelling on that but great merch guy name.

They dressed like cowboys and while some of this leans in the county direction it gets a little out there.  Hell they ever cover a Carole King song.   Great stuff.  Enjoy.

John Doe & The Sadies @ Lion's Lair, Denver CO, 2009-07-28

This was a fun one.  John Doe fronting a band comprised of The Sadies.  John Doe is from X of course and if your not familiar with The Sadies they are a long running Canadian rock/county band started by the Good brothers in 1994.  They have a big catalog that is worth exploring.

In 2009 they put out an album called Country Club that features a ton of cover songs from known and not so known country artists.  Good stuff.

At this show they played many of those tracks and did some X, John Doe solo, and Sadies songs too.

The Lion's Lair is tiny and recordings from their can features plenty of bar room atmosphere but this is mostly free from that.  You hear the occasional bottle clinking and some crowd chatter but during the music I think this sounds fantastic.  I wish I could remember where I setup my mics for this.

Enjoy
