I heard on the radio this morning that today was Kim Gordon's birthday.  Happy Birthday Kim!!

It reminded me of seeing Sonic Youth at the Gothic Theater back in 2006 were someone had written the above graffiti on the wall of the Gothic Theater.  Indeed Kim Gordon does rule.

This show was on the Rather Ripped tour and the setlist features a lot of song from that.  Some old classics too.

This recording got around a lot back in the day but I had never posted it up on my blog before. I figured it was one I need to get up.  If you had this in the past it is the same audio as that previous data set.  This set is just tagged with artwork.

Sonic Youth @ Ogden Theater, Denver CO 2002-08-21

Here is part 1 of a series.  2 bands I saw at two different venues in one night.  First up my friend Tom and I caught Sonic Youth at the Ogden Theater.   Then we went down the street to catch the UK Subs at the Lion's Lair.  Fun night.

I recall that it was insanely hot in the Ogden this night.   There was a literal heat wall between the lobby and the venue.   I remember it being so sweltering that I listened from the lobby for a good portion of the show. 

This is from SY's tour for Murray Street.  Nice mix of old and new and the band seems really into it.

Sonic Youth @ Red Rocks, Morrison CO, 1992-09-21

This is kind of exciting for me.  I went to this show back in 92 way before I was making recordings of shows or had even thought that it was something I would do.

I met Lantz at a Drive Like Jehu show a few years about and he might have mentioned that he had some tapes.  I can't recall.  A couple years later he emails me saying he has a box of live cassette tapes and wanted to know if I could do some transfers.

He had a bunch of great stuff from the late 80s early 90s including this Sonic Youth show at Rec Rocks.  So I agreed to take on the project.  Watch out for a bunch of posts from this box of tapes in the near future.

I recall that I went to see this show mostly because I was a big Primus fan at the time.  They were touring behind Seas Of Cheese still. But I was curious to see all the bands.  I recall being pretty blown away by Sonic Youth.  Super fun to be able to relive that show after so many years.

Latnz did a really nice job capturing this show.  Which is not always so easy at Red Rocks.  Enjoy.
