Not too long ago I posted an 2003 Unsane show from the Larimer Lounge and here is another 2003 show. This time a Jesse Malin show. Jesse, like Unsane is from New York City and what could be more NYC than Dinero's Taxi Driver monologue used as set intro. I wonder if they were aware that they both were using it.
Jesse was on tour with a full band to support his newly released album 'The Fine Art of Self Destruction'. It happens to be celebrating it's 20th anniversary this year. What a fantastic album. I listened to it a lot back in the aughts. I revisited it after reading some of the recent press about the anniversary and fell in love all over again. After listening to it front to back a few times I decided to revisit this Larimer Lounge show recording.
I had forgotten how good this sounded. I might have traded this out on CDR back in the day a little bit but this is a fresh transfer from the MD master and the first time sharing it digitally for sure.
Jesse tells a lot of stories about the songs and plays some fun covers. The band included Rob Clores on keyboards, Johnny McNabb on guitar, Paul Garisto on drums, and Johnny Pisano on bass.
This one has it all, good sound, good crowd, great performance. What more could I want from a recording I haven't listened to in 20 years. Enjoy.
