About me... in english, just for you!

"Grandma Dragon" - 3rd edition, colorful and bigger!

Thais Quintella de Linhares was born in Rio de Janeiro on the dawn of September 29 of the year 1970. She moved with her family to U.S.A. while she was still a baby, and there she lived until she was five years old.

As she listened to the classics of literature introduced by her grandmother, Thais learned to love the books, together with the beautifull illustrations of Beatrix Potter and Edith Holden. Returning Brazil, her family took up residence in the neighborhood of the Jardim Botânico (Botanical Gardens), where streets and cars still share space with birds and monkeys.

In 1989 she entered to the School of Astronomy at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (Astronomia/UFRJ), but in ’91, during the first Comic’s Strip’s International Biennial of Rio de Janeiro, she managed to contact many cartoonists and illustrators, specially two of her greatest idols: Will Eisner and Moebius. She also worked at that time as a comic writer with Ziraldo – one of the greatests brazilian author of children books – for his magazine “Menino Maluquinho”.

So enchanted, she decided to follow the artistic career and entered (1990) as apprentice in a publicity agency, and soon after that she was chosen to enter a Special Course of Graphic Design (SENAI-AG). There she was trained in art, design, computer graphics, history of graphic design and graphic production – after a two years full time course, she graduated as graphic designer and went to work at the creative department of a publicity agency. During this time she published the graphic novel, the “Grimoire”, released at the II Comic’s Strip’s International Biennial of Rio de Janeiro, obtaining a good divulgation in the press. Further two of her comics were awarded 7th and 10th places in the Biennial competitions.

She also graduated in the National Academy of Fines Arts (EBA/UFRJ;
Attended the animation workshop of André Leduc (form the Canadian National Film Board); studied Medieval History at Cambridge’s Summer School. And Robert McKee course "Story" in scriptwriting. Studied pitching with Heather Kanon.
