FO Friday 173

Good morning everyone! Sorry this is late. I took the pictures yesterday and everything. I just got distracted and forgot to actually write the post!

It's been a hell of a week for me, not in a good way, so I'm happy to see it come to a close. I'm super excited about the April colorway that I will reveal soon, and am happily knitting with it, which has helped my mood. I can't wait to show you it.

As mentioned on Wednesday, I do have a FO to share. It's my Herbivore by Stephen West, knit out of Tosh Sock in colorway Spectrum.

I started this last May, and decided to pick it up and finish it. I'm so glad I did. It blocked beautifully and I adore the shape. I took it to the movies with me last weekend, as I was wearing a tank top. It was hot outside, but I knew that the movies would be super cold. I was so glad I did. It draped perfectly across my back and the "wings" of the shawl wrapped over my arms and kept me warm. The shawl hugs perfectly, and isn't a shape that falls off the shoulders all the time.

That's it for me today. I hope you have a great weekend and I'll see you next week.

Work in Progress 185

Hi everyone. I hope all is well! Sorry I forgot about FO Friday last week. I meant to post the Mister Linky despite not having a FO, but it slipped my mind. I hope you all had a great weekend.

Here's an update on my sock yarn blanket, with bonus cat butt. HA! She decided to lay down just as I put the blanket out to take the picture. As you can see on the left, I've started to add squares to the side. I'm going to be adding to the left side, but won't on the right yet, because I'm not 100% sure it's the width I like. Right now it's 13 squares wide. It's about the size of a one person lap blanket. I think a few more squares added to the width would be best, but right now I am focusing on just making it deeper. I am so in love with it so far! It's a great mindless project that I pick up when I don't feel like I want to commit to my knitting at the time.

I'm sure you don't remember this. I started this Herbivore shawl by Stephen West back in May of last year, and I bought the yarn, Tosh Sock in Spectrum, at Stitches West 2013. I decided to pick it up again this week and am close to finishing it soon. I took this picture Tuesday afternoon, and worked on it all Tuesday night. I've finished as far as the size based on the pattern, but since I have a bit of yarn left, I'm trying to squeeze out a little more. I can't wait to see this off the needles.

That's it for me. I hope you have a great rest of the week. I hope to have my shawl done for Friday! See you then.

Work in progress 182

Hi everyone. I hope you're having a good week. I've been super busy this week, as Stitches is this weekend.  I'm not a vendor, but since I won't be working Thursday and Friday, I have extra on my plate at the start of the week.

Speaking of Stitches, I'll try and schedule a FO Friday post before I leave so you guys can still post your links. I should be posting a lot of pictures to my Instagram account, @candyskein, if you're interested in following.

This week I haven't had too much knitting time, so I just worked on my Sock Yarn Blanket. It's actually getting quite big considering I only started it 13 days ago. It's a great addicting project that uses up yarn I never thought I would use. Unfortunately, it's also caused me to buy yarn. I'll be looking for mini skeins at Stitches for it, as I plan not to buy too much full skein yarn. If you're looking for a fun project that's pretty portable (you can make single squares and connect them later on, or do little blocks of squares and connect them later), look no further. The only problem is you have to be pretty patient because it takes a LOT of sock yarn to finish this thing. I plan to work on it quite some time.

That's it for me today.  I hope you have a great rest of the week.

Work in Progress Wednesday 145

Hi everyone! I hope all is well with you. Today I have an update to my Stephen West, Herbivore shawl and a few new yarns in stock at Candy Skein to share.

I've completed the first part and have a few rows of the second section. I actually almost screwed up (or did a little but not big deal). I forgot that I was only supposed to do the first part for 5". Once I remembered (at knit group last night), I already had 5 1/2", but decided to go with it and just start the second section once I got the full 4 rows completed of the portion I was doing. I figured if I have to, I can just make the second section a little smaller since it's by inches as well (12"). No worries. I like the way it's turning out so far. It's funny to see it in picture form. I think the bright red and pink areas are way more prominent in the picture than they are in real life.

This is a new colorway to Candy Skein, Sugar Snap Pea! It's currently available in Candy Skein Yummy fingering, which I also updated in several other colors on Monday.

I also updated the Sweet fingering section of the shop! All of these colorways are now available, from left to right starting at the top: Poppyseed, Foil Wrapper, Grape Soda, Tardis Tart and Watermelon.

All yarn shown (and listed as in stock on the website) is available to ship today!

That's it for me today. I hope you have a great rest of the week.

Work in Progress Wednesday 144

Hi everyone! Happy Wednesday.  I hope you are having a great week.

I realized Monday afternoon that I wasn't actively knitting anything, and my knitting group meets Monday night. This past weekend I worked a lot on my steam punk cross stitch, and didn't have time to really think about what I would be knitting for the week. I had so much fun with the Sweet Summer Rays shawl, I knew I wanted to make another shawl. I remembered I had purchased several Stephen West patterns last year during a 50% off sale he was having. I thought the mix of this skein of MadTosh Sock in Spectrum that I bought at Stitches West.

Here's the start of the shawl. I have to say, this yarn is GORGEOUS! This picture doesn't even do it justice. I can't wait to see this shawl grown and how the colors will pool.

That's it for me today. I hope you have a great rest of the week. On Friday I'll have my Sweet Summer Rays shawl to share!

FO Friday 116

Hi everyone and happy Friday. I'm going to keep this short, because as some of you know (if you follow me on Instagram), you'll know that yesterday (well, today as I type this) I had (still have) a migraine headache. If you've ever had one, you know the last thing you want to be doing is staring at a bright computer screen.

As promised, I have pictures of me wearing the shawl! It doesn't really match with what I'm wearing in the picture, but just pretend. I had my husband take these pictures before I left to take the Candy Skein yarn to Yarning for You! Sorry for the squinting, but it was REALLY glarey outside! I'll have pictures of that coming up on the blog and I still have some studio pictures as promised. I've been lacking on that, as I've been insanely busy but things will start to calm down a little soon.

I have to say, I didn't know how I'd like the shape of the shawl, but I do love it. It's very comfortable. The beading is subtle, but more noticeable in person than in these pictures.

Here's the details:

Pattern: Quaker Ridge Shawl
Yarn: Tosh Sock in Worn Denim
Beads: Size 6 seed beads
Needle: Size US 7
Notes: I only had one skein of yarn but really wanted this yarn with this pattern, so I made it work. Out of one skein of Tosh Sock, I got 7 repeats finished, sans ruffle, but with the beaded bind off. I did have a little yarn left, and could have maybe squeaked out another repeat, but decided not to take the chance. It's a very easy shawl to knit, and would really recommend it. I had a great time with the beaded bind off, despite it taking awhile (over a day). I think it was totally worth it.

FO Friday 114

Hi everyone! Happy Black Friday. I don't usually brave the crowds, except a few years ago we bought a new tv. This year I'll be working and then headed to a birthday party at our favorite local tiki bar/restaurant, the Bali Hai! I hope all who celebrate Thanksgiving survived! I'm currently in a food coma as I type this Thursday evening with a cup of Thanksgiving blend Starbucks coffee next to me.

Speaking of Black Friday, don't forget that the Candy Skein sale is still going on through Monday at midnight. Some of the yarn is going fast, so be sure to check out the website. All yarn is 15% off with code HOLIDAYSALE at checkout in the coupon section.

I finished my shawl! The beaded bind off took about a day and a half, but is so worth it. I will have better pictures of the shawl once it's blocked, but I wanted to share it since I am done with the knitting part! Please excuse the dark pictures, but as mentioned, I'm in a food coma.

Work in Progress Wednesday 120

Hi everyone. I hope you're having a great week and to all my US followers, Happy Thanksgiving!!!!!!! I'm so very happy that my husband gets the day off (but not Friday unfortunately) and that my family will be together for the day. We haven't gotten to spend much time together lately, and haven't had a relaxing day of sleeping in, lounging around and eating in a long time. It will be nice to forget about work for one day, if that's possible. What do you have planned for the holiday weekend?

Speaking of the holiday weekend, before I jump into WIPW, I wanted to let everyone know about the Candy Skein holiday sale. This isn't just for US customers, but worldwide! If you're looking for a few gifts or even to treat yourself this holiday season, be sure to stop by Candyskein.com this weekend to take advantage of our holiday sale by using coupon code HOLIDAYSALE during the checkout process. Receive 15% off your total purchase and we’re even giving a free gift! Spend $40 and receive a Candy Skein button. Spend $60 and receive a full set of 5! The sale runs from Thursday, November 22nd at 12:01am PT through Monday, November 26th at 11:59pm PT.

I don't have too much to show for WIPW as I've been working on the same project. I will say, I'm SOO close to finishing and will have it done for Friday so I don't want to show too much and give it away.

It's my Quaker Ridge Shawl in Tosh Sock. I'm working on the beaded bind off so I figured I'd show you a little sneak peak of it! You'll have to come back Friday to see the rest. :)

That's it for me today. Please have a fun and safe Turkey day in the US and a great Black Friday/Cyber Monday!

Work in Progress Wednesday 116

Hi everyone!!! I hope you had a great weekend and are having an even greater week. I've been busy with electrians, plumbers and my family in town to help build out Candy Skein studios. I will have a bunch of pictures (which you can see on Instagram right now...username Candyskein) in a post coming up in the Life as an Indie Dyer series soon!

As a sneak peak, I thought I would share this picture, which is the outside of the studio. It's a separate bungalow on my new property, steps away from my laundry/mud room and master bedroom. A beautiful courtyard separates everything. It only shares one wall, which is the garage.

The inside was a little rough when we bought the house, but wait until you see it finished! Stay tuned for pictures of the whole process.

Now on to what you've been waiting for. As mentioned, I haven't had much time to knit recently, but I figured I'd share this picture with you anyway. :) This is the Quaker Ridge Shawlette and I'm using Madelinetosh Tosh Sock in Worn Denim. I've done the set up and two full repeats. For those wondering, I did end up ripping out the shawl and starting over because of that extra stitch. I wasn't very far along, and I think it would have always bugged me.
